i havent been overly impressed with the cans these guys put out, which may have been part of the reason its taken me so long to get to their brewery. too bad i waited so long, this place is amazing. perhaps my favorite taproom in boulder, really its impressive. maybe a little off the beaten path, but work taking the short drive. its a great facility, with all sorts of cool wooden features including a little awning that wraps around the room, a long wrapping bar, a large patio that backs right up to the train tracks, a private event space, and glass windows into the brewery, which is far larger than i imagined it would be. the setting seemed amazing too, sun going down, old freight train stalled outside, and a cow farmer picking up spent grain out front. very cool scene in here, and quite a few more beers on tap than anticipated. looks like they only can a very few of the ones they do, as the beer list was pretty impressive. the imperial maple porter was the beer of the day, hands down, but all were tasty and interesting, and the vibe in here was as good as the beer. service was very friendly, and although the beer was a little pricey, it felt worth it to me when i was settling up. nobody ever talks about this place, and i think its a shame. i love it here, loved the beer and the atmosphere, and am looking forward to my next visit. killer patio too, summer will be fun here for sure. definitely worth a visit if you are doing the boulder brewery circuit.

Sadly, two of their lines were down at the time of my visit. Still, it's a fun and impressive taproom. Sit at the bar facing west, and the windows roll up to look out on the patio and passing trains.

Nice taproom in a industrial setting on the north side of Boulder. Crowd runs the gambit from hipsters to young families with kids. Typically have 6-8 of their in-house beers available on tap. They always have their 3 flagships - Black IPA, Saison and IPA available and then generally have a few other more interesting beers available. While the beers are generally pretty straightforward, the Black IPA is a standout. They generally have a Taco Truck on site with is pretty solid.

My slogan for Sanitas is "Pretty beer for pretty people"...hey, I'm not ugly, but I have to say this place has an environment that is so calculated euro/chic/hipster that I felt uncomfortable. The layout says "we are going to be so crowded in here because we are looking so good - check out the owl". The people drinking the beer (i.e. the culture) were equally appearance focused and not so much on the integrity of beer. I love beer and beer culture, but this is a nouveau-Boulder establishment hoping to draw in those wearing their $600 jeans and drinking "craft" beer because that's what "cool" people do in Colorado. We tried everything they had to offer. The only beer we could drink was the Black IPA. It was nicely balanced, roasty malt body and decent hop backbone. Would I go back for that one? Not likely.
