Orangey gold color with plenty of foam in the Duvel Green tulip. Warm and fruity and malty. Spritzy on the tongue.

Fruity flavors of apricot and mango, and— did somebody say graham crackers? An excellent description. Then it goes on to the massive citrus with orange marmalade notes. Another interesting and aromatic big IPA. Plenty of bitterness in the aftertaste. Lip burning hop oils.

Pours a murky dark orange with a foamy orange-tan head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Thick swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of citrus fruit, candied citrus zest, grapefruit juice, and pine needle aromas. Taste is much the same with candied citrus zest, grapefruit juice, earth, and herbal hop flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a nice balance between citrus and herbal hop characteristics.

Valley Suprise is the long awaited DIPA from Santa Clara Valley Brewing here in San Jose. I had it at Harry’s Hofbrau on tap and it was fresh and delicious. Malt body was solid caramel sweetness which was balanced by a floral citrusy which lasted in the palate with its residual resins. Its easy to keep drinking this beer as their is little or no alcohol taste that leaves a beer tasting like like Nyquil. This beer is golden and delicious!

Resiny, grassy, minty nose with malt highlights. Pours hazy gold to amber under a lacy 1” white foam cap. It enters the palate big and malty backed up by a big hop presence with citrus, big hop and yeast driven fruit flavors supplemented by biscuit to graham cracker that all come into balance by mid-palate finishing with a nice lingering bitterness somewhere between grapefruit rind and quinine. This is a big chewy beer with creamy, average carbonation.

This was a relatively tasty beer until the end- jeebus that bitterness was intense and way too drawn out.

L: delightful orange, cloudy body with a off white head that has decent retention and very good lacing
S: strong fruity malts - very nice
T: in line with the nose, bit of a tart, fruity finish
M: heavier than i would like, sits on the tongue and clings to the roof
O: very good, really enjoying the SCVB beers - hope to make it to their brewery soon.

Really surprising. I was expecting something that tasted a lot worse. This was great. 22 ounces is definitely the way to go. One of the best IPA's I have had for a while.
