Bottle pour at the DTLA bottle share held at Beer Belly in Los Angeles, CA.

Thanks to HopHeadJim for sharing this one.

Pours a clear super dark brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, and earth aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa and herbal hop flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty and hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is definitely a bit hoppier that I am used to for the style.

Snagged a bomber of this for a mere 5 bucks at my local house of 1,000 beers. Into a pint glass.
A - Looks damn near perfect a deep dark shade of amber almost black with a 1/2 inch of opaque colored head that sticks around forever. Making for great lacing.
S - Smell is great roasted malt, some cocoa, and a touch of coffee. No hops smell so it must have been aged out.
T - Bittering hops are their but only slightly distracting. Next I get some dry roasty taste and finish is rather sweet with cocoa powder and sugar sweetness. Not bad.
M - Light to medium rather smooth. Good.

Overall it was a very good porter quite hoppy but age has done it wonders. Worth the 5 bucks I paid for it.

As close to black as it gets. Attractive off-white foam on the Duvel tulip. Excellent light-bodied but foam mouthfeel. Flavor is dominated by the dark malt. I'd call it French roast. Dry with a touch of sweet malt.

While there is an abundance of charred grain, the flavor is not at all sour and bitter. Quite a decent example of a very dark but mellow brew. Great sudsiness with every new pour. Really an excellent beer from a rather obscure brewery with only two beers. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Beer Revolution in Oakland.

Appearance: The coffee brown liquid is topped by a rocky beige head that leaves some splashy lacing behind

Smell: Roasty and ashy with muted coffee tones; a hint of dark fruit

Taste: Blueberry fruit elements commingle, up front, with the roasty malt flavors imparting an interesting Ethiopian coffee character; ashy tones mingle with hop bitterness, after the swallow, and drive into the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: I am really warming up to the berry tones in this beer as it takes the brew in a unusual direction

Thanks, JesseLara, for the opportunity

Deep brown/black color with a caramel head. Nice aroma with lots of roasted coffee and chocolate. Medium body with some light caramel and roasted malt. As it warms a little sweetness comes out to offset the bitterness to balance itself out. A little bitter but overall a great Porter.
