Brewed by:
Funky Buddha Brewery
Florida, United States

Style: Leipzig Gose

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.20%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
We're quite fond of the Gose style, a traditional German sour beer that blends the subtle tartness of a Berliner weisse with the addition of kettle salts and coriander. We took it a step further and infused it with snozzberries... well what we think they might taste like, anyway.

Appearance: Arrives and the bar with a cloudy honey color and just a wisp of a head that disappears in a flash; limited lacing action.

Smell: Apricot, mango and passion fruit, with a tart, wheat bread edge; a hint of salt, too

Taste: Tart fruit forward, with the passion fruit bringing its unique character and blending in with the more familiar apricot and mango tones; the sourness builds through the middle and is underpinned by a hint of banana; after the swallow, the salt arises to join the sour tones

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with a spritzy carbonation (that was a surprise given the appearance)

Overall: Glad to see this one was not retired as it has a lot of unique elements that make it worth seeking out; maybe they will bottle it again, too

Drank on-tap at Lord Hobo, Cambridge, MA
Served in a cervoise

Super cloudy, yellow ochre appearance. The lack of a head made the liquid appear rather dull.

The aroma however was outstanding and super unique. On the first whiff, apricot nectar immediately came to mind. Lots of sweet mango as well. Perhaps some peach notes too. Slightly wheaty and tart. A salty, mineral-like quality was also detectible.

Like the nose, the flavor profile was really interesting. The apricot notes were apparent here as well, and they were joined by a number of tart, tropical fruit flavors. Lots of sweet and tangy passionfruit. Some mango. Hints of lemon and wheat came through in the center. The beer finished salty and rather sour.

The mouthfeel was pretty non-descript. The beer was light on the palate with a spritzy, fairly aggressive effervescence.

Funky Buddha makes a number of outstanding, fruit-infused sour beers, and this one is perhaps my favorite. I really wish I had easy access to this amazingly tasty and refreshing warm weather treat.

The beer comes in a light yellow color.

The aroma is absolutely brilliant. Fresh passion fruit, bright lemon peel, guava.

The flavor follows with those fruits in the front, although not as brilliant. Extremely tropical with peaches, and even a lemon tartness. The beer has lots of similarities with a Berliner weisse because of the tart qualities and almost absence of salinity that the style is known for.

Super refreshing and ridiculously fruit forward. The best gose I’ve had. Funky Buddha aromatically is the best brewery in the world.

22 oz. bottle poured into a taster. Gose with tropical fruit.

Appearance - Flat hazy orange body. A couple floaties.

Smell - Tropical fruits. Passion fruit is strong. A little lemony. Smells very nice.

Taste - Much more lemon and grain. Minimal saltiness. Tropical fruits are less intense than the aroma, but still present. Sour, but not as intense as other Buddha Berliners.

Mouthfeel - Light and crisp. Low carbonation. Drinkable.

Overall - Quite refreshing and flavorful. I was afraid it would taste like a Buddha berliner, but it has avoided the pitfalls from which they suffer.
