750ml bottle, 1972-2016 stamped on the bottle, poured into a 14oz snifter glass.

The beer pours a medium amber color, orange and copper hues that is very clear with a bone colored head, about two fingers tall with good retention and soapy lace. The aroma is fine, strong grape must wine character, strong grain profile, light peppercorn, strong fruity yeast, rustic but a bit dull. The flavors are decent, strong amber grains, light spice and peppercorn, definitely getting the rustic countryside ale but the grape must and champagne yeast really take over and clashes a bit with the base beer. The mouthfeel is good, plenty of carbonation, very lively and prickly that coats decently well and finishes with a tart and dry bite.

Verdict: A nice saison from Funky Buddha, perhaps a bit heavy handed on the grape must and the base beer is a bit dark and rustic that it doesn't mesh as well as a lighter more delicate base would have. Enjoyable, but easily lost of the morass of American saisons.

Reviewed from notes. Poured from a 750 mL bottle into an El Catador Barrel-Aged glass.

A: Hazy copper, with a good amount of visible carbonation and a two-finger fluffy white head.

S: Cracker malts, white wine vinous, and fresh cut grass. Sweet crushed grapes, minerals and champagne yeast. An impression of oak dryness, but no overt tannins. Decent aroma.

T: Barnyard and hay and grassy. Champagne yeast, white wine grapes. There's a milder grassy and peppery saison yeastiness as well. Cracker malts with mild grist flavor and a background barnyard funk. A dry and disappearing vinous character in the hang.

M: A relatively light, crisp body with good carbonation sensation. Low alcohol presence.

O: This was not my favorite. I don't like champagne, so admittedly this one was a long shot for my palate. The grape must isn't terribly obnoxious at least. I'd still rather have a regular saison all day tho.

Funky Buddha Undefeated Saison
750mL bottle into a tulip

A: Pours a translucent dark golden orange, huge 3plus fingers width of white head, dissipates slowly leaving lots of lacing. 4.25

S: Aroma is light and bright, fruity, some vinous grape notes. Very floral and lots of fruity esters. 4.25

T: Taste follows the nose: floral, fruity esters, dry, yeasty. Somewhat funky. 4

M/D: Lighter side of medium bodied, carbonation heavy but appropriate, drinkability is good. 4

O: Good beer but nothing special. Perhaps my expectations were too high. Worth tying but nothing I would put an effort toward seeking out. 4

Nice clear golden brown color. Big 3 fingers of head.
Smell his sweet grapes must scent.
Taste of grapes, dark fruits, gum. Almost fast like a Risgling white wine.
Very dry mouth feel. Very champagne like. Great carbonation.

Overall this a fine saison. Well made. I might be a bit bias, since I live in S. Florida and I am a Dolphins Fan! I think it is worth a try no matter what team you follow. I think more breweries should do this for there Hometeam!!!!!

a cool saison here, nice treat yesterday. its made with grape must, and its quite distinct. looks hazy and purple and it holds a nice airy white head. the nose here is great, very grapey, red wine tannic from the skins and stuff, but also juicy like the flesh of the grape, cool use of this fruit in a beer that is so dry. the yeast is subtle, i expected more funk and even belgian fruitiness, but its not to be. instead its a delicate farmy spice, white pepper and even white wine tang. the malt base is really light, almost too light, i dont taste or feel as much wheat as i like to in saison styles, but this is clean and very drinkable, and im not sure it would improve this any. the use of the fruit is what makes it cool, and the mouthfeel is amazing. dry and lively on the carbonation, really active, easy drinking, even refreshing. that must be a product of the champagne yeast, which i suppose can be felt more than tasted here. i almost feel bad for drinking this delicious beer so quickly, but its hard to help myself. very unique with the grape must, and well executed. really the first beer of its kind i have had from these guys, and its a real nice change of pace. seems like they do most everything really well...

Reddish color from the grape must. Head dissipates quicker than a typical saison. Probably from the champagne yeast. Smell and initial taste is subtle grape followed by a crisp champagne flavor at the end. Much better than I thought it would be. Very unique brew.
