I'm So Excited, I'm So ScaredI'm So Excited, I'm So Scared
Notes: Hey there, tiger: lose control (and like it) with a little I'm So Excited, I'm So Scared. This ferociously coffee-d imperial stout is just like grabbing a booth at The Max, then hunkering down for a study sesh' with a big pot o' joe. Coffee aroma so good it’ll have you yelling “FRESH POTS!” Rock and roll? You ain't seen nothing yet.

Pours very dark with ample foamy head. Big coffee aroma with some chocolate and vanilla. Big chocolate and coffee flavor, nice vanilla finish with a big dose of coffee bitterness, probably due to the age of the beer. Creamy and full bodied. Overall a very good pastry stout, aged nicely.

Bomber sent to me from my brother.

Deep brown color-1finger head. Nose is deep roast coffee, vanilla and caramel. Taste follows the nose. Coffee forward and delicious. Just enough vanilla sweetness to balance. Really enjoying this one. Well crafted and highly recommended.

Happy to have the opportunity to try some beers from Funky Buddha.
This beer is nearly black with a half-inch tan head that persisted.
Coffee is the primary aroma, with some chocolate and vanilla.
Ditto with the taste. Nice balance.
Smooth drinking, would never guess it is 10% ABV.

Funky Buddha Brewery "I'm So Excited, I'm So Scared"
1 pint 6 fl. oz. brown glass bottle. Ink-jet coding is too small to be legible.
$13.99 @ Knightly Spirits O.B.T., Orlando, FL

Notes via stream of consciousness: So what do we have here? An "Imperial stout with coffee and vanilla added"... that sounds good but I'm not sure it warrants such a name. Excited? Yes. Scared? No. - I must be missing something. So OK, it's poured a typical stout appearance with a nice creamy tan head that's holding really well. The aroma displays some coffee. It's like fresh coffee beans, but also like brewed coffee, but it's not strong. That's the wrong word... it's not bright and full, it's not like a fresh cup of coffee or fresh and oily coffee beans, it's just not that rich... it's like good quality spent coffee grains. That doesn't even sound good but it's probably true... ahh, it's actually better than that but not by much. Of course I don't know if this is a fresh bottle. Let me check that ink-jet coding again... no, even with a magnifying glass that's illegible. Beyond that there's a nice cocoa-ish and fudge-like note. It's a nice aroma but it's not eye-opening. On to the flavor... the coffee continues in the same vein, and it's nice but it's not great. The chocolate side is pleasant and balancing, as is the vanilla. I'm assuming it's real as it certainly seems so, and that might explain the high price tag. There's a light touch of fruitiness that I'm assuming comes from the yeast and isn't really specific. I'd call it apple-like if I had to define it. A stiff bitterness balances it straight through, and it finishes sweet and then dry once the sweet malt erodes. Some cocoa and very dull leafy and earthy hops linger. In the mouth it's medium bodied bordering on medium-full and creamy smooth. How strong is this beer? 10% abv? It doesn't seem it, the alcohol never really shows, it only suggests the overall strength but you can get that in even a beer of 7%. Overall I give it credit and I wonder if it's really vanilla? More importantly, do I want to pay for real vanilla? I'd rather have it than extract but damn, it's expensive! - I think I'd rather just skip the beer. Unfortunately with global warming continuing vanilla will continue to be rare, and shortly, chocolate as well. Sheesh! Maybe I should get it while I can. Oh, wait, is coffee on the endangered list as well? DOH! If you're a fan of coffee beers get it while you can.

Pours opaque black, 1 finger of brown head, fine bubbles.
Coffee dominates the nose, roasty and black pepper notes.
Taste is coffee, cream, vanilla, peppery finish with lingering coffee notes. Caramel notes emerge as it warms.
Mouthfeel is thick and smooth.
Overall, this feels like it could be really special but something is off for me.

22oz bottle poured into a tulip

A- pours deep black in color with a one-finger creamy khaki colored head that has good retention before settling into a ring around the edge

S- bold notes of espresso and mocha cream with undertones of charred malt, anise, dark chocolate and a hint of smoke, loads of coffee

T- flavor follows the nose with bold earthy and herbal espresso up front, followed by undertones of mocha, vanilla whipping cream, charred malt & dark chocolate. The finish gives more herbal coffee with a malty sweetness that lingers of vanilla and chocolate

M- medium-thick body with moderate carbonation leads to a creamy mouthfeel that continues into a velvety, silky, slightly warming finish

O- awesome straight up coffee stout that tastes like espresso

650ml bottle, served in a snifter glass. Pours a darker cola brown body. One finger offwhite head, short retention, no lacing. Smell is dark fruit, milk chocolate, light coffee that is sweeter and more dark fruity rather than roasty or acidic. Touch of roast and char, nevertheless. Cocoa and chocolate. Flavour is even better than it smells. Fairly decent chocolate bomb. Dark fruit. Lightly roasted espresso. Milk chocolate. Cocoa, chocolate. A bit of earth. Slight smoky and trace marshmallow sweetness on the backend. Mouthfeel is medium fuller bodied, good carbonation, silky. Great stout flavours underneath, decent coffee, good chocolate and cocoa.

Mouth feel was smooth cup of joe with some cream and cocoa, alcohol @10% no where to be found. This is one of the best coffee stouts ive had.

I picked this up in Florida last winter and think it has cellared long enough. I poured it into a Duck Rabbit snifter as instructed so am a little disappointed in the lackluster head. The nose is close to magic, however, with coffee and oodles of sweet cocoa.

Wow. Perhaps more than any other "coffee stout" I can remember, this really does taste more like java than beer. There are some hops playing wingman, but this is a dense, chewy, fresh, and very black cup of joe. The texture is rich and velvety smooth and thick as oil, especially in the finish.

For ten percent, you are barely even aware of the existence of alcohol at all, which is quite a feat. Really makes me rethink the whole idea of a coffee stout.

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a quarter finger high tan head that died down, leaving a thin head covering the surface and a collar round the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of sweet chocolate malts and coffee are present in the nose. Notes of vanilla beans become noticeable as the beer warms up.
T: The taste has lots of flavors of dark malts and roasted coffee beans with notes of vanilla. The roasted coffee beans linger into the finish.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer makes for a very good mix of an imperial stout and a pot o' joe. It drinks very easily and has no apparent traces of alcohol. It would make for a good breakfast beer.

From a bomber poured into a snifter. Viscous and dark on the pour, producing a fluffy tan head. Fresh coffee aroma with prominent vanilla and then roasty malt. Lots of vanilla. The coffee is there but the vanilla dominates. The roasty flavors are also there but again are in the back. I would like to see more coffee and less vanilla, but this is nice.

Dark brown-black pour with a light brown head of 1 finger in my mini snifter.

Thick aromas of vanilla, hazelnut, molasses, light tin, and chocolate.

Flavor is a nice mesh of hot fudge, black pepper coffee, caramel, vanilla candy, hazelnut, and licorice. The pepper note kind of throws off the nice synergy but it's not too intense. Some slight bourbon sweetness and heat as well.

Feel is rich and creamy, with a boozy hotness and a slight roasted finish.

Overall it didn't blow my socks off but it's still a very good imperial barrel aged coffee stout. Would definitely have again (and I will, because there's one more!).

A - Poured into a Kate the Great a nice dark black hue with a thin head.

S - Aromas of excellent chocolate and vanilla, really good coffee as well. Lovely.

T - Taste is similar to the nose with just excellent vanilla. Huge vanilla notes, good chocolate. Nice coffee as well, the vanilla crashes through everything.

M - Mouthfeel is nicely carbonated, creamy, medium bodied.

O - Overall this was a very solid stout. Excellent stout with vanilla. Really nice.

A - Dark brown colored pour with micro-thin toffee colored lacing.

S - Milk chocolate cocoa aroma with light smokiness and dark chocolate malt. No booze detected in the aroma. Impressive.

T - Chocolate malt, boozy, chocolate bittersweetness.

M - Heavy body that quickly turns airy due to all the carbonation and ends foamy/creamy.

O - One dimensional but a great Imperial Stout.

Black with ruby edges, creamy smooth dark tan cap; good retention; heavy lacing; lite legs upon swirl. Strong coffee nose;chocolate and vanilla. Chocolate, coffee, bitter roast coffee beans flavors; oak and vanilla an afterthought; bitter sweet dark chocolate, cocoa nibs finish. Medium full body, moderate carbonation - really nice feel - not thick or gooey, but a nice creamy feel for a light feeling stout (the vanilla addition?); dry cocoa powdery tongue coating. Pleasantly not feeling or tasting adjuncty; the fudgy base steps on the coffee, but overall a fine tasting coffee stout leaning sweet vs. bitter roast.

Good head production and retention. Dark brown head atop a nearly black body. No indication of clarity or hue; even against the light, it seems opaque.

Aroma matches expectations. Vanilla wafts gently from two feet away. Up close, coffee, vanilla, roasted barley, chocolate, molasses, brown sugar, and a bit of char and dark fruit hiding behind the mild sweetness. Coffee and vanilla are definitely forefront.

Flavor follows, with a nicely balanced sweetness, and an incredible and surprising strawberry note along with everything else - I credit it to the choice of coffee and a side effect of the vanilla. Big, dark, sweet: molasses and brown sugar; vanilla and coffee; the aforementioned strawberry; chocolate. No ashy finish here.

Big, thick, creamy, and smooth; super drinkable for 10% ABV - dangerously so, actually. I could drink this far faster than would be good for me.

I can't tell if that odd strawberry note makes this beer better or worse. I wasn't expecting it, but it makes it stand out in a sea of coffee stouts. It seems most probable that I'm getting tones from the coffee they selected for this brew.

A: Poured into a snifter to a black beer topped by a finger and a half of dense light tan head which fades quickly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: Smells of tons of coffee and espresso with a little bit of vanilla on the back end. Roasted malts are hidden behind the loads of coffee
T: Taste is a boatload of coffee on the front end with some nice roast malts and a good bit of bitter dark chocolate. there's a vanilla presence that comes in at times but coffee is the dominant note. Swallow is more coffee, roasted malts and chocolate with a little lingering vanilla
M: This beer is thick and velvety on the palate with soft carbonation that is just below prickly. The beer has a slightly drying finish which is expected.
O: Overall this is a really nice beer with some good flavors and complexity. It represents the style well and the adjuncts play well together. Definitely worth a try.

FB did a great job on this brew!
The coffee notes push the limits of my sensory system. With every sip the pungent coffee tricked my mind into thinking I just put my nose in fresh coffee grounds.
A 10% beer that drinks like a 6%, super crushable imperial stout. It wasn't boozy, overly decedent or overwhelming in any way. A little syrupy but in a good way and just enough carbonation to not leave it flat. 10/10 would smash this over and over.
