Very Good
Strawberry Shortcake Wheat WineStrawberry Shortcake Wheat Wine
Notes: Hey pal, this ain't just some sweet little thang. This fierce, frosted goddess is none other than Strawberry Shortcake, a righteous wheat wine brewed with just enough whole strawberries and fragrant vanilla beans to temper its ferocious nature. So beer bros, take heed: it's time to hail to the queen, baby.

22oz bottle poured into a snifter

A- pours amber in color with a one-finger foamy white head that reduces to a ring around the edge

S- it does have a pound cake-like aroma, not so much the strawberry but the cake itself, light vanilla and icing undertones. Sweet malt and wheat close it out

T- strawberry up front in the form of a sugary strawberry glaze, followed by some sweet malt that gives some cake-like notes. The finish gives malty caramel, and lingers of sugary pound cake. Pretty impressive how they mimic that pound cake flavor

M- medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that turns creamy into the finish

O- easy drinking and alcohol hidden pretty well, a good interpretation of what they were going for

Oh look there is bottled on date on the neck and it says bottled on 11/15/17 so I am drinking this beer when it is less than 3 months old. Excellent! After a few big sips I have quickly realized that this one of the best strawberry infused beers that i ever had although I have only had two and I am not going to mention the other beer because I do not want to make anyone feel bad in this review. The 9% abv is hidden really well. The nose is strawberry and creamy sweet. They were not joking when they said that they put strawberries and vanilla into this brew considering that I am getting a ton of both on the taste. Additionally, i'm getting wonderful creamy lacing from the wheat and possibly the vanilla. They are true to what they claim on this bottle. I am getting strawberry shortcake all the way. It's a little too sweet tasting and I am not sure what is causing it to taste that way. I wonder if any artificial ingredients are being used in this beer because it does not say so on the label. Cheers! A-

A: Poured into a snifter to a deep orange topped by a finger of dense off white head which fades to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: Smells of strawberries and vanilla with some wheat malt undertones
T: Taste is wheat and vanilla up front followed by a bunch of strawberries with more vanilla. Swallow is huge vanilla and wheat with more strawberries and residual sweetness
M: This beer is on the heavy side of things with a syrupy mouthfeel and light carbonation. The beer has a refreshing finish.
O: Overall this beer is okay. It tastes like what you would expect but I think it's a little too adjunct heavy and sweet.

Thanks to BPK59 for grabbing this in Florida.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice clear light honey hue with a far three finger head that fades to leave a rich blanket.

S - Aromas of cooked strawberries, vanilla cake batter, nice dairy notes, whipped cream. No alcohol noticeable.

T - Taste is similar to the nose, more good strawberry notes, the cake notes are a bit more muted than the nose. The vanilla has an artificial extract flavour. The strawberry is more of an unripe berry notes. Nice wheat wine notes, no alcohol on the notes.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, no alcohol.

O - Overall this was a very solid wheat wine with excellent strawberry notes. Quite pleasant.

Big fluffy creamy thick frothy head fades slowly thick lacing, murky sediment laden tan orange color

Nose nice strawberry, not a ton candy creamy whipped cream too, cool whip, vanilla lactose thing, little vanilla cake batter, raw bread dough, creamy wheat, candy wheat

Taste creamy lactose, fake vanilla kinda flavor unfortunately, lots of lactose, creamy vanilla cake batter, creamy wheat, mild strawberry less than the nose as more under ripe green, more of the wheat wine flavor, faint hint of booze.

Mouth is med bod creamy, decent carb, very little booze

Overall not bad, not enough wheat wine in the aroma, not enough strawberry on the flavor, more artificial vanilla flavor, it's good but not quite the level of other funky Buddha fruit beers.

Strawberry is a difficult flavor to execute, and extract or not, it is showcased well in this particular offering. Another overall impressive brew from funky buddha, not overly sweet, and the fruit doesn't dominate

I tried this at Kickbacks in JAX. The beer poured a hazy yellow with pink hue with white head left no lace. The scent was sour strawberry. The taste was sour leaning and not overly easy to drink. The mouthfeel was lighter in body subtle carbonation. Overall it was not a beer I prefer.

Funky Buddha Strawberry Shortcake
22oz bottle into a tulip
No bottling dates

Pours a golden copper with 2 fingers width of dense bright white colored head. Fair amount of sedimentation in the glass. Head has good retention but leaves little lacing. Aromas of strawberry, pale malt, wheat and subtle vanilla. A bit of cake batter. It is moderately sweet smelling but not aggressively so. Taste is not as good as the aroma, it's not very sweet at all. Moderate bitterness and lots of spicy wheat characters. Almost no strawberry and very little vanilla. None of the cake batter like sweetness present in the aroma. Tastes like what I imagine a mass produced novelty strawberry wheat beer would taste like (like a Shock Top Strawberry, if you will), as opposed to the wonderulness that is most FB "dessert" beers. Mouthfeel is fuller side of medium bodied, some fusel ethanol characters let you know the ABV is there, although it's not hot going down. Carbonation is on the high end. Drinkability is average. Overall, this was a pretty big disappointment. As I said above for me FB usually nails sweet beers but this one is a pretty big miss. Not horrible but mediocre for sure.

Gimmicky beer? Sure but that's what makes them interesting! FB does these flavors right. I immediately picked this up and what can I say other than it lives up to its name. The strawberry, graham cracker, whipped cream, all meld together with just the right amount of carbonation. I didn't get an artificial flavor nor was it too sweet. If you see this I'd recommend it for a nice desert beer.

Reviewed from notes. Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into an El Catador Barrel-Aged glass.

A: Pours a quite hazy darkish gold with a thin white head that fades quickly. This has a good amount of visible carbonation plus some chunky floaters.

S: Sweet strawberries – a mix between artificial and natural. Cracker malts, vanilla and caramelized sugar. Pie crust and Cool Whip. As it warms up a bit, there's some corn sugar sweetness and/or pilsner malts - I can't decide which I'm getting (or both). It’s not a particularly appealing beer smell to me, but it seems exactly what they were going after I guess.

T: Sweet cracker malts and vanilla, pilsner malts and corn sweetness. Artificial strawberry sweetness – strawberry pie filling, strawberry Scratch-n-Sniff stickers, and strawberry Jolly Ranchers. No particular wheat character, but some marshmallow fluff instead. Sweet vanilla and corn sugar sweetness in hang.

M: Medium body, low carbonation sensation, and the alcohol seems about average.

O: This isn’t good. Primarily artificial strawberry flavor with a poor malt body. Minimal if any wheat character. A bit of Nestle Quik strawberry with weird artificial vanilla marshmallow flavor. Honestly…avoid this. Drain pour.

9 oz snifter
Look- Golden with a small light head. Wasn't the color I was expecting
Smell- Sweet. Strawberry and vanilla are the overwhelming nose as expected.
Taste- more of the same. Awesome blend of strawberry and vanilla. Done to perfection. Exactly what I was expecting
Feel- Light bodied. Impressive for the strong taste
Overall- If you are looking for a dessert beer, this should be a go to. Vanilla and strawberry blend is done to perfection.

Funky Buddha Brewery "Strawberry Shortcake Wheat Wine"
22 fl. oz. brown glass bottle, "BOTTLED ON 11/15/16" and sampled on 12/23/16
$10.99 @ Knightly Spirits, Orlando, FL

Stunning! Real strawberry flavor in a creamy, medium-full body. The aroma is more sweet and vanilla-like, without the berries, but the vanilla is in the flavor as well. The alcohol is extremely well cloaked; and although it is sweetish, it works because of what it is. This is without a doubt the best dessert beer I've ever had, and the fact that they were able to pull it off in the way they did, using only real ingredients, is amazing. If there's a flaw to it it's that it's kind of a one-trick pony, but again, for what it is that's perfectly acceptable. And it's original! It's funny, coming from a highly regarded brewery, that this is the beer that has absolutely blown me away. On the other hand, I've never had anything like it, whereas plenty of other breweries make great IPAs and the such. If you have a chance to pick this up, do it. Take it to a party and people (especially women) will be amazed.

Poured from a 1 pint bottle, into a Cigar City snifter.

Thin white bubbly head, that dissolves quickly. The color is hazy gold, with a strawberry red tinge.Light carbonation.
*SECOND POUR* No head, with a shit ton of sediment floating around.Any light coming through the glass is completely distorted.Bright orange in color.Very light carbonation. It actually looks like strawberry shortcake, with all the floaties!!!

On the nose I get strawberries, whipped cream, and sponge cake. The aroma is sweet, but not too sweet.A little bit of bubblegum in there too.Smells as advertised.
*SECOND POUR* The nose is the same as the first pour, only the aromas are stronger, and more pronounced.

The palate is sweet,I get strawberries up front, sponge cake in the middle, and whipped cream in the finish.A little bit of bubblegum in the palate as well.To me it tastes like strawberry shortcake, meets Belgian whit beer.Tastes as advertised as well.
*SECOND POUR* Again same as the first pour, only the flavors are more potent...The only hint of alcohol I got,was in the very last sip...And even that was VERY mild.

The body is on the heavy side of medium, with a slightly chewy texture.Wet and smooth going down.
*SECOND POUR* The body is even more chewy, and more viscous.

I don't know why this one got so many bad reviews, its pretty much what you see is what you get.If you don't like strawberry shortcake, this probably isn't for you...If you like strawberry shortcake, then its right up your alley. And I got absolutely no alcohol in the nose,or the palate...It was very well hidden for a 9% wheat beer.Good on the first pour while clear, and even better on the second pour while cloudy, and mottled.I didn't taste or smell any alcohol on the first,or the second pour...really don't know what the hell people are talking about...Maybe they got a bad batch.

Reviewed just to contradict the review below me. Nose is exactly strawberry shortcake. Strawberries, whipped cream, and sponge cake. I don't know how they do it, but if I didn't know what I was smelling, I'd swear it was dessert. Taste follows. Sweet and rich like dessert, but definitely not boozy. Overall, still a novelty and something I wouldn't drink every day, but they absolutely nailed what the label says its supposed to be.

Poured from a 22oz bomber into a Funky Buddha snifter. Pours a peachy clear color with tons of floaties and a faint head leaving specks of lacing. Not much of an aroma other than grain alcohol and a slight powder sugar note. Taste is bitter with tons of alcohol, and maybe a faint strawberry mousse on the middle of the tongue, not nearly as sweet as I imagined it would be. Mouthfeel is creamy but ultimately dry from the alcohol presence. Another flop from Funky Buddha. They do adjunct porters really well, but they're hit or miss on everything else.

EBF sample pour. Poured a soupy, dull yellow color. Aroma & flavor are just such a clear impersonation of a strawberry shortcake. Its too close to be real. This must be purely artificially flavored. I highly doubt they made this without using artificial ingredients. That's honestly fine with me but why does this brewery get praise while others get damned to hell for doing the same practice?
*Edit - was informed that this beer does not use artificial flavoring. Pretty god damn impressive if true. Rating changed from a 3.52 to a 3.99.

Enjoyed on-tap from Gnarly Barley for their 4th anniversary. The nose and taste feature a good dose of strawberries and warmth from the alcohol. Not overly sweet, good job by Funky Buddha.

This was a surprise for me. Gnarly Barley 4th Anniversary Party this weekend, pours hazy and think. I could smell the beer from an arm's length away. Smells rich like strawberries, so that's a good sign. The taste, though... the entire spectrum of strawberry shortcake in every mouthful. This is a really, really well-made beer.
