Appearance: Pours out with a coffee brown color and capped by a small tan head; not all that much lacing appears as the head descends

Smell: Chocolate and peanut butter, but not as sweet as the combo sounds

Taste: Chocolate forward, with a brown bread edge; through the middle, the peanut butter tones develop with the combination carrying through to the finish

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with low to moderate carbonation

Overall: A pleasant drinker that keeps the sweetness in check; Funky Buddha knows its way around the gimmicky beers

Nice head production and retention. Brew is fairly dark for a brown ale, nearly black with purplish highlights.

Massive peanut-forward aroma! It almost smelled barrel aged during the pour, but up close, salted peanut butter dominates. Some slight toasted malt and chocolate behind. More or less one note, but it is inviting.

Flavor is far deeper and engaging than the nose: caramel malt, chocolate, vanilla, brown sugar, dates, white grapes, earthy hops, and of course peanuts. The first half is really malt-forward, allowing you to savor the beer before the peanuts start to take over on the back end. Long finish, alternating tones of caramel, plums, and salted peanuts.

Lively and smooth feel; really enjoyable.

FB seems to favor (imperial) brown ales for some of their more creative (and perhaps gimmicky) brews. It definitely seems to work, given their goals (peanut butter cup, french toast, etc.). This one ends up being a very enjoyable brew in its own right, a downright pleasure to drink.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 9/21/2017. Pours nearly opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, peanut butter, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, cream, frosting, fudge, brownie batter, brown bread dough/crust, and toasted biscuit; with light notes of molasses, licorice, dark fruit, smoke, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts, peanuts, vanilla, cocoa nibs, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, peanut butter, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, cream, frosting, fudge, brownie batter, brown bread dough/crust, and toasted biscuit; with light notes of molasses, licorice, dark fruit, smoke, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Mild herbal, grassy, peppery, roast bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, peanut butter, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, cream, frosting, fudge, brownie batter, brown bread dough/crust, toasted biscuit, molasses, licorice, dark fruit, smoke, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, peanuts, vanilla, cocoa nibs, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with a solid roast/hop bitter/sweet balance, and no cloying sweetness after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering hop/roast bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, and lightly slick/sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 8.8%. Overall this is an awesome flavored imperial brown ale. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, peanuts, vanilla, cocoa nibs, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink for the big ABV, with the mildly bitter/drying finish. Great soft feel. Perfectly balanced between rich brown ale malt complexity, peanuts, vanilla, and cocoa nibs; with just enough earthy hops to balance sweetness. A really enjoyable offering, and highly impressive imperial style example. Tons of authentic PB flavor, and not overwhelming on any aspect. Not overly roasty for the style, held up really well for the age.
