Rum Barrel-Aged Last SnowRum Barrel-Aged Last Snow
Notes: Last Snow is an ode to that special time in Florida where the needle dips just south of 75 - even for the briefest of moments. This rich, creamy porter is layered with coconut and freshly-roasted coffee and then aged in rum barrels for a taste that recalls a winter wonderland - even if, in our state, that's just a state of mind.

Poured into a snifter. Huge rum aroma with faint coconut and caramel. Nice mix of coconut and rum on the palate. Slightly boozy but enjoyable overall. Full bodied.

650 mL bottle. Pours black with a big khaki head. Smells of rum, coconut, coffee, lactose, and charred oak. That all smells fine in isolation, but it doesn't quite smell great together. Tastes of lactose twang up front, rum, coffee, oak, and then a coconut aftertaste. None of the Last Snow flavors work here. Sweet, almost tangy, very oaky, and the coconut doesn't work. Medium body. I heard the rum was excessive, but that really isn't the problem here. The rum and coconut seem to combine to make a sharp flavor that detracts.

Like most everything from Funky Buddha, the shining feature of this beer is the nose. Wonderful notes of coconut, coffee grounds, and a touch of rum waft out of the pour. We preferred the taste of it cold, though as it warmed it wasn't bad. I just felt like the colder version had a little more showcase of the diverging flavors while the warmer version lost that. If you can get it inexpensively I recommend trying it.

I love Last Snow, and feel Snowed In/Last Buffalo In the Park to be fantastic barrel-aged versions, but I couldn't stomach this one. The rum is too overwhelming; you do notice the base beer a bit with the white chocolate, coconut and coffee in the background but the rum gives a hot burn on the backend that just makes it so unpleasant to drink.

Poured a dark, dark brown color with a small tan head of foam. It smelled like so much coconut. It was like sun tan lotion. Very sweet beer with tons of coconut taste. Too much coconut for my liking.

Pours dark brown/black. Good rum barrel on the nose invites you to take a sip. The coconut and rum meld together to create a very nice and flavorful concoction. I enjoyed the extra sweetness from the Rum barrel, as well as the different flavor profile it created with the coconut. Less of a "coconut bomb", that other iterations of snow, but I enjoyed it.

22oz bottle poured into snifter.

Appearance: black body with khaki colored head.

Smell: This is smells really hot. So much rum barrel in this beer. Boatloads of coconut as well. Vanilla, oak, and spice.

Taste: This is where this beer will blow your mind. The rum barrel is so perfectly integrated into the taste of this beer. You smell the beer and you think it will be a booze bomb. Well it could not be more dialed in with the rum barrel and coconut flavors. The coconut is so huge without tasting like suntan lotion. Not tasting much of the coffee.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Moderate carbonation levels leaning towards the lower side of moderate carbonation. Creamy mouthfeel, but not motor oil. Slightly thin, but on par with the usual mouthfeel associated with funky buddha adjunct / barrel aged dark beers.

Overall: This is of the same cailber as Last Buffalo in the Park. Funky Buddha made a fantastic Rum barrel aged porter.

A-typicall Funky Buddha base Porter, dark brown, slight tan head
S-Coconut with quality rum smell -slight vanilla -smell of Zaya or Atlantico Rum
Taste- Coconut upfront, followed by vanilla heavy well aged rum taste comes thru at the end
M- slightly thin, as is typical of Funky Buddha base beers
O-great blend of coconut, vanilla and oak rum barrel flavors with a slight mix of fruit flavors.
Funky Buddha beers frequently seem like magic flavor drops are used to hit the taste on the mark, but the barrel ageing hides this profile.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a 16oz Funky Buddha snifter. Pours a cola brown color with a finger of bone colored head leaving spotted lacing. Aroma is rum rum and more rum. It would be hard to differentiate the aroma from a pour of Appleton. There are slight sweet cola notes followed by a little coffee and chocolate, but it's amazing how much rum characteristics were imparted on this beer just from time spent in a barrel. The taste follows the nose, and is dominated by boozy rum flavors. I'm sure I could pour this over ice and serve it as rum and Coke to a third party. The slight coffee taste is the only thing that might make someone question my claim. This is by far the most rum forward beer I have ever had, so much so that it smells and taste like I dumped a shot of rum into a porter. The mouthfeel is the signature and disappointing Funky Buddha thin and watery presentation, but it's not ruining my enjoyment of this beer. Overall I'm glad I took the time to stand in line to purchase this beer, and I'm looking forward to see what a little age does to the remaining bottle I have.
