Given FBB's reputation, I was expecting a great beer; especially refreshing, cultivated to compensate for the Florida sun and humidity. Instead, average was produced.
While this clearly has the nose and taste of a hefe-, Floridian slips particularly in the mouthfeel: too thin, too carbonated, not creamy and probably more hops than needed. (The hops I can understand for the market, just not my preference being a traditionalist.)
But, this was good enough to have again... on a hot day when I am eager for refreshment.

Just had the Floridian Hefeweizen from Funky Buddha. I got it via a beer trade. I like Hefeweizen and I think it is pretty good.

Look: semi-clear light golden with a thick white head.

Aroma: the aroma is wheat, banana, and some citrus.

Taste: There's wheat, bready, a little bit of yeast, banana flavor, citrus, a typical Hefeweizen, but a little bit more citrus flavor, light, good for hot weather, quite good..

Feel: Light body, a little bit of carbonation.

Very nice hef, with the body a little on the heavy side (a good thing, in my book). Nice, almost roasted honey flavor, with good mouth feel and a strong-in-a-good-way aroma. Tasty.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a Cigar City pint glass.

White thick creamy 1 finger head,retains well.Light carbonation,also retains well.Golden straw color,clear but hazy.

The nose is banana, bread, wheat, and hints of citrus. This beer has a nice sweet smell to it.I also get a small hint of yeast, nothing offensive...Very pleasant actually.

The palate follows the nose I get wheat/yeast blended with banana/citrus.Again it has a nice sweet and also sticky taste to it.

The body is medium light, with a slight silky texture it.Smooth, dry finish, with slight tingling on the tongue from the carbonation.

I'm not a huge fan of wheat beer, but this is a nice beer for a hot summer day.One thing I will mis about Florida is,sitting in the pool, and watching tv on the back porch, while drinking Floridians!!! This is a very refreshing beer.

There's few beer styles that's better suited to beat the heat than a traditional German hefeweizen. And when you basque in the sun like Floridians do then this would become a very important beer. It's not surprise to the Funky Buddha team, as they are firmly nestled in the sunshine state, as their wheat beer captures the more citrusy, dry and spicy side of the style's balance.

Pale gold and with a light translucent haze, the beer's scent is one of peppery, herbal and soft spice. With fruitiness abounding, its sweetness is bready and confection-like to the taste. Malty and grainy at its core, there's a sweeter, savory and lightly toasted taste to round the bread taste.

Brisk carbonation breaks up the grain and malt while amping up a fruit-centric taste of banana, orange, pear, peach and apple. A quick break-up of malt brings in a quick peppery taste that hinges on clove, white pepper, nutmeg, vanilla and cumin. Light herbal hoppiness trends grassy and with a lingering peppery bite to suggest lemograss and sassafras teas.

Medium-light, drying and grainy, the beer's character deviates most from traditional varieties in its carbonic bite that breaks the texture apart rather than providing a smooth creamy dryness. Preferring a thirst-quenching character rather than highlighting the culinary art of the beer, the shread of bubbliness gets in its own way.

It looks good for a German Style Hefeweizen or more aptly, Weiss, except the head is a slight bit small. Luckily there is some sediment to pour in at the final slush. The nose is quite delightful, banana and clove, a bit less expressive and pronounced than a Franziskaner let alone a Weihen., etc. The taste is good and drinkable, properly balanced and with high hopes. There is a kind of dryness that is typical I have found of American Hefeweizen. Odd, but I have come to expect it. A sort of short and sweet finish that is absolutely not reminiscent of the best German wheat beers whatsoever. That is where it falls short and reminds one of many other American wheat beer attempts that leave me running for the German and Belgian section of the beer store. The mouthfeel is okay and reflects also the taste in this instance, as is cooperative with the style. Subjectively somewhat happy that it is not an absolute bailout, but also a tad disappointed that it is not superior to even the Franz which is now even considered average although highly preferable to this and I also wished to find the ingredient list for this beer on the website as would be in line with the tradition.

for how well they do the extravagent stuff, this really should be better than it is. i mean, its not bad, but for them, it kind of it. a forgettable hefeweizen overall, with a weird yeast complexion, soo much of a spice thing going on, very little real wheat flavor, and a tin mouthfeel lacking the creaminess that makes the style so great most of the time. its just weird to me on the tongue too, peppery and almost more wit than hefe on the yeast, watered down, uninteresting. i was shocked to not love this. i mean, they can do all these crazy coconut and barrels and blends and everything, but they cant make a simple hefe thats worh anything? i was very much surprised by that. one thing is that its plenty light and bubbly, being ice cold, i could see this being refreshing in the humid florida heat, but the flavors are anything but classic, and the overall impression i am left with from this one is that its just not very good, especially for these guys. somewhat concerning, why even bother with a beer like this if its going to more or less be a throwaway? i guess they cant all be barrel aged and 12% abv...

Oddly clear for an unfiltered Hefe. Plenty of billowing white head with very good retention.

Both on the nose and the palate, this is a traditional Hefe. There aren't any "Floridian" flavors to be found; just the traditional wheat, banana, and clove.

It's a touch too lively on the palate for my preference, but it's very drinkable. Overall, this is a very good Hefe, worth taking a place by the German powerhouses as a Summer thirst-quencher.

Had on draft in a Pilsner at T-Rex at Disney Springs...pours a cloudy yellow gold with good lacing and about 1/4 inch head that lasts.

Smell citrus notes, more than likely oranges

Taste citrus with little hoppy bite on back end, maybe a spice?

Mouth feel is pretty smooth...good solid beer will have again

12 oz bottle poured into a shaker pint.

Extra hazy apricot blonde with a short white head.

Sourdough, potpourri, hay, lemon, clove, and banana. Big aroma.

Sourdough bread, banana, and tangy wheat. Dried hay, potpourri, and clove. Lemony citrus with touches of orange juice.

Light bodied, crisp, and off-dry with high carbonation.

A very crisp Hefe great for the warmer weather.

Taste was wheat, high carbonation and hints of citrus.

Mouthfeel was light and thin.

Overall a pleasant experience to enjoy during the Florida summer months

A quite clear hefe. Nice flavor, high pound ability. Lacks a bit of body-perhaps from the filtering of yeast but went down real easy on a hot Tampa night.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a wheat beer glass. It poured a two-finger, white head, which dissipated quickly and left no lacing. The color is a beautiful orangish/amber and cloudy. The smell is wheat, malt, orange, and a hint of banana. The taste follows with a typical, bright wheat beer flavor, but the orange really pops for me. The bananas and cloves come through on the backend. The after taste is exactly like banana bread. The mouthfeel is high carbonation and pillowy. Overall this is an excellent wheat beer. I'm a fan of the style, and this is definitely one of the top I've had.

Poured a cloudy yellow body with two-finger head and lace ring around the glass. The aroma is both spicy/cloves and banana/yeast sweetness. Has a touch of bubblegum sweetness and fluffiness from the yeast while maintaining both a banana flavor and some citric spiciness on the finish. A little more sweet than I'm accustomed to and not too much flavor but not a bad beer.

Poured into a weizen glass. Cloudy golden brown, very active carb with little lacing. Very aromatic, citrusy notes mixing with the wheat and malt. Big fizzy punch in the mouth flavor, but easily drinkable and refreshing.

12oz bottle. This may be the best American-made Hefeweizen that I have had to date. It hit all of the right notes that one would exect fro this style of beer. It had the right look, feel and taste. Excellent example of the style. Can't imagin ehow much better this beer would be on tap.

My first offering from Funky Buddha and it did not disappoint. Pouring out into a pint glass the beer has a very nice golden ochre color that starts off with a nice looking head, but has no staying power or lacing down the glass. The beer was not as cloudy as most of this type, which I found unique, and I think I would look more for in future Hefeweizens. The scent was possibly the least appealing part of this beer as it had distant citrus notes with none of the wheat smell, but the feel was certainly crisp and the early tangy-ness on the tongue was balanced with a smoother feel towards the bottom of the glass. The taste was strong, almost pungent at first, but once you let it roll around for a couple of sips it was definitely a bold and flavorful beer. Though this wasn't the best Hefeweizen I've had it rates up there pretty good.

120z bottle into a pint glass.bottled date of 1/27/16, so a little under 3 months in.

looks pretty decent. hazy yellow body, little carbonation, good white head which dissipates to a ring and a faint film. no lacing to speak of.

aroma is quite strong, banana and cloves, and something else i cant put my finger on.

the taste is slightly acidic. the flavors from the nose come through, but the tartness is somewhat off putting.

feel is between thin and medium, finish is slightly dry.

overall, not really enjoying this one too much. not a completely bad beer, but seems a little unbalanced. not sure where the tartness comes from.

This beer is sooo not my cup of tea. The color is slightly darker than a lager and slightly cloudy. The head is thin and white. The smell is a watered-down version of the taste. The taste starts with a strong hint of bananas and quickly finishes with the taste of burned rubber.

This came highly recommended by the ABC store manager in Ormond Beach. She was right. Thanks.

It looks great in the glass and has a great skunky wheat beer aroma. It totally works and feels authentic.

The taste is a good yeasty wheat beer taste with a balance of sweet and sour overtones that are neither subtle nor overdone. An excellent balance. The aftertaste lingers a little sour on the tongue.

This grand Floridian is highly recommended as an authentic, fresh tasting drink. I am glad Florida finally has a craft beer scene. It is a bit small for the population, but there was enough to keep me working at trying them for a week. I wish I could spend another couple weeks sampling! And sunning.

12oz bottle poured into a pint

A- pours a hazy golden-yellow color with a small foamy white head that has short retention and leaves a ring around the edge

S- earthy yeast gives notes of banana, citrus, coriander & clove with some toasted malt aroma underlying

T- crisp and refreshing fruit notes up front of banana & citrus, followed by flavors of clove & coriander, toasted wheat backbone leaves a dry and crisp finish

M- medium body and medium biting carbonation leads to a slightly foamy mouthfeel and a dry, crisp & refreshing finish

O- for a straight up Hefeweizen brewed in America, it doesn't get much better. Up there with the best of them

Bottle. Pours a semi-clear golden yellow color. Aroma is very light. Sweeter than I want it to be. Some banana, Belgian yeast, spice and grain. Flavor is pretty much the same, Finishes sweet, too. Textured body. I can't really hate on a decently brewed hefeweizen. I don't see them all too often.

Bottle dated 12-31-15. Pours a clear straw color, with a thin white head. Initial impression is light and lemony, with a refreshingly dry finish. Medium to thin mouthfeel; medium carbonation. Easy and refreshing to drink, but I generally enjoy something with a little more substance to it.
