Notes / Commercial Description:
This is the finest, purest black. Cocoa straight from the source: the rugged mountains of Brazil, where chocolate is life. We smuggled these beans back to our brewhouse, where they were blended with creamy milk porter and fragrant Madagascar vanilla beans. Get cocoa'd up.

On tap at the Funky Buddha. Opaque black in color with a tan head. Aromas of chocolate and coffee. Chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt flavors with just enough hops to keep in honest. Personally I prefer just a little more body, but all in all another gem from the crew at the Buddha....

Funky Buddha Brewery "Nib Smuggler Chocolate Milk Porter"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle, "BOTTLED ON 12/01/16" and sampled on 12/24/16
$3.49 @ Knightly Spirits, Orlando, FL

Notes via stream of consciousness: Nice label. Dark brown-black body beneath a creamy head of dark tan. Average head retention and lacing (possibly due to oils from the chocolate or vanilla bean). Aroma of chocolate - actual chocolate, like smelling a nice, freshly broken chunk of milk chocolate. No fruitiness... well maybe a tiny little bit in the background, but certainly no hops. Taste is similar but there is some fruit, just a little with some dark skinned fruits, maybe raisin, and some soft red berries - but again, in the background, and there are no hops. Vanilla is clear. Surprisingly it's not sweet. It's sweetish, but not sweet, yet the bitterness seems very low. Ahh, some roastiness comes out of the chocolate as well, and it's a touch mocha-like. It finishes mostly dry, with lingering soft fruit wrapped in chocolate and accented by vanilla. It's medium to medium-full in body with a dextrinous side, and creamy smooth across the tongue with a fine-bubbled moderate carbonation. Any more carbonation would have been too much, and perhaps that has to do with the limited head retention and lacing - a fair trade-off. Overall an excellent dessert beer. Remarkably easy to drink, and incredibly satisfying.

Poured dark opaque brown- black color with a 2F head in a Stone Imperial pint glass.

Great aroma: milk chocolate, sweet, some coffee which which doesn't fade during the tasting,

Taste: minty milk chocolate- like a candy bar.

Light body, semi creamy. The finish is excellent with a slightly sharp bitterness, roasted malt and chocolate.

Excellent milk porter. The aroma carries the beer. The chocolate and finish never lose their intensity. I'll look for more of their beers.

very nice pour! super heady on top with nice wafts of chocolate off the top..... flavor is very much chocolate-y and lactose-y, but very good. almost a root beer kind of flavor to this, even more-so than those "root beer" flavored brews, but this is genuine and authentic! really great brew. a bit too sweet to do more than one at a time, but a great change-up in the tasting room, i bet.....

Pours opaque, black in color with 1/4 inch head. Taste is milk chocolate, vanilla, and light nuttiness. Sweet, heavy bodied, silky smooth, with moderate carbonation...Tasty, excellent dessert beer. If this was available here, it would be a fridge staple. Unique among porters and well worth seeking out.

Black in color with no opacity. There's a quarter inch of frothy beige head resting on top. Light Brussels lacing. This smells like dark malt and chocolate. The taste is predominately dark malt with dark chocolate in the background. This is nice dessert beer that isn't overly sweet. The mouth is dry and lightly oily.

12 oz bottle of Funky Buddha Nib Smuggler Chocolate Milk Porter from Florida served in a goblet.

This is a classic dessert beer. It’s sweet but not cloying, with a very strong influence of cocoa nibs and moderate vanilla bean. The aroma features cocoa, subtle vanilla, dark bread, and a hint of coffee.

Overall: Good balance, lots of flavor (especially chocolate) and an enticing aroma. Worth seeking out.

Growler shared by Mark – thanks! Tasted side-by-side with Piiti Porter.

Pours black with a light brown head that leaves decent lacing.

Smells of smooth roasted malts with large amounts of milk and dark chocolate. Also present are hints of espresso lurking in the background.

Tastes more robust than it smells. Moderately roasted malts up front are joined by soft milk chocolate flavors. Midway through the chocolate influence opens up with the addition of cocoa powder and heavier dark chocolate. Light coffee flavors come in near the end, fading out into a mildly bitter ending. Mouthfeel is good, with solid carbonation.

Overall I enjoyed the base beer more than this treatment, as the chocolate didn’t come through very well in the aroma department and overpowered the coffee. Still, a solid beer that’s worth a shot.
