Notes: This is the finest, purest black. Cocoa straight from the source: the rugged mountains of Brazil, where chocolate is life. We smuggled these beans back to our brewhouse, where they were blended with creamy milk porter and fragrant Madagascar vanilla beans. Get cocoa'd up.

very nice pour! super heady on top with nice wafts of chocolate off the top..... flavor is very much chocolate-y and lactose-y, but very good. almost a root beer kind of flavor to this, even more-so than those "root beer" flavored brews, but this is genuine and authentic! really great brew. a bit too sweet to do more than one at a time, but a great change-up in the tasting room, i bet.....

Poured dark opaque brown- black color with a 2F head in a Stone Imperial pint glass.

Great aroma: milk chocolate, sweet, some coffee which which doesn't fade during the tasting,

Taste: minty milk chocolate- like a candy bar.

Light body, semi creamy. The finish is excellent with a slightly sharp bitterness, roasted malt and chocolate.

Excellent milk porter. The aroma carries the beer. The chocolate and finish never lose their intensity. I'll look for more of their beers.

Funky Buddha Brewery "Nib Smuggler Chocolate Milk Porter"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle, "BOTTLED ON 12/01/16" and sampled on 12/24/16
$3.49 @ Knightly Spirits, Orlando, FL

Notes via stream of consciousness: Nice label. Dark brown-black body beneath a creamy head of dark tan. Average head retention and lacing (possibly due to oils from the chocolate or vanilla bean). Aroma of chocolate - actual chocolate, like smelling a nice, freshly broken chunk of milk chocolate. No fruitiness... well maybe a tiny little bit in the background, but certainly no hops. Taste is similar but there is some fruit, just a little with some dark skinned fruits, maybe raisin, and some soft red berries - but again, in the background, and there are no hops. Vanilla is clear. Surprisingly it's not sweet. It's sweetish, but not sweet, yet the bitterness seems very low. Ahh, some roastiness comes out of the chocolate as well, and it's a touch mocha-like. It finishes mostly dry, with lingering soft fruit wrapped in chocolate and accented by vanilla. It's medium to medium-full in body with a dextrinous side, and creamy smooth across the tongue with a fine-bubbled moderate carbonation. Any more carbonation would have been too much, and perhaps that has to do with the limited head retention and lacing - a fair trade-off. Overall an excellent dessert beer. Remarkably easy to drink, and incredibly satisfying.

Arrives supremely dark brown with just a ring of creamy looking head to it.
Smell is malt, chocolate and cream. Imagine a chocolate milk shake in beer form and you've got the scent. Great balance.
Taste is chocolate, malt, cream, slight vanilla. Again, chocolate shake in beer form. Wunderbar!
Exceedingly smooth, rich, lightly carbonated and full bodied. Not quite Last Snow but close. A really good brew.

On nitro at the brewery. A deep brown color with a medium tan head. Great lacing with huge sheets of foam on the glass. The aroma was fantastic. Massive fresh cocoa and vanilla. The taste did not disappoint. Coffee, cocoa, and vanilla flavors with a lactose sweetness. Creamy feel from the nitro. Well balanced hop presence. Outstanding.

Dark brown color with no light passing. The beige head settles quickly to only rim bubbles. It produces no lace at all.

Powdered cocoa is the initial smell I get. Think Cocoa Pebbles.

The flavor is rich with a milk chocolate start. The body is rich with light carbonation. The swallow is like drinking cocoa and the aftertaste matches this, lingering a long time.

Bottle split between two snifters. Black bodied with dark brown hues surrounding the glass edges when held to light. A vertical pour yielded a dense lacing of mocha-colored foam, which lasted for about 2 minutes before transforming into a spotty lacing; some big bubbles still surrounding the cap's perimeter. Albeit being a bit weak, the nose is fairly pleasant. Strong notes of burnt lactose, dark roasted chocolate, raw cacao, and vanilla. There's a slightly astringent character to the smell - a very light vinegaresque aroma - that I could attribute to the Brazilian cocoa. Not entirely sure.

Pleasant tasting, although with that same astringecy as mentioned before. Beyond that, there are notes of dark chocolate, raw vanilla beans, and silky lactose. These flavors all blend together quite well, making this beer a true "chocolate" porter. Virtually no malt roastiness or hop bitterness, this one is all chocolate and vanilla. The mouthfeel is full and creamy, making this one as easy to drink as a homemade cookies and cream milkshake.

Overall, very good. I was on the fence at first, but as it warmed, it grew on me with each sip. Definitely one for those who like organic/natural sweets.

Appearance: Arrives coffee colored with a one inch mocha cap; a few shards linger

Smell: Chocolate with vanilla and caramel tones

Taste: Chocolate forward, with the caramel and vanilla building; a creamy element arrives, through the middle, adding more sweetness that lingers into the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation

Overall: A nice beer if you like chocolate beers that verge in a sweet direction; my preference is for more balance and complexity, however, and I much preferred the MBCP that I drank after this beer

This was delicious and smooth, creamy mouthfeel, one of my favorite brews I have tried in quite a while. The chocolate really came through but didn't overwhelm you to where you couldn't taste the porter underneath. Overall just an insanely drinkable beer, I will buy yearly.

Craft brewers are shameless. They'll change a beer to anything in an effort to attract a new customer. And in this case, Funky Buddha makes a beer that tastes like milkshake in order to attract the most serious chocoholics in the market. Shameless, I tell ya.

Creamy and luscious upon the pour alone, the beer's dark brown body builds a creamy mocha meringue that waft about with aspirations of chocolate, vanilla and heavy cream. Toasty and chocolaty to taste, the underbelly of porter casts its caramel and toffee sweetness.

Its silky texture caresses the tastebuds and saturates each and every one with decadent Belgian chocolate, mocha latte and a sweet vanilla spice seemingly like cookies and cream. Its coffee-like tilt shines more as the taste nears finish with its earthen hop bitterness that reads more like freshly ground coffee rather than of lupulin. Its broad woodsiness finishes like walnut, perhaps coated in bittersweet chocolates.

Deep, creamy and almost chewy, the porter's viscous half-and-half character provides the satisfaction of chocolate dessert. Lightening just enough in in finish, its fleeting dryness offers a faint semblance of drinkability, setting it apart from more sipping-type ale. A lasting aftertaste of chocolate and coffee extends deep in after glow.

Bottle dated December 2016; my first taste of any Funky Buddha beer (thanks to my local Craft Beer Cellar), I have been looking forward to it; very good beer, could be carbonated a bit more for my palate but really like the interplay between chocolate and vanilla; would like to try this again a little fresher than 2 months old

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Beer is pitch black with a nice, mocha colored head on top. Plenty of lacing and the retention is great as well. Aroma actually has chocolate in it, which seems to be rare even in beers which advertise chocolate as a main flavor. Milk chocolate doesn't dominate, per se, but dominates. Good flavor too. Not too sweet, chocolate is well balanced. Smooth and creamy. A pretty good beer if you like chocolate.

Pours a dark brown color with light tan head. Chocolate, wholly chocolate on the nose, with some vanilla sweetness; follows onto the palate. Medium to full bodied, very smooth. Finishes with nice chocolate and vanilla notes.
