Funky Buddha Stickie Treats
12oz into a tulip
On tap at The Pour House Channelside
Consumed (and reviewed) Oct 2017

A: Light straw yellow, essentially no head of lacing. 3.5

S: Aroma is fairly subtle overall, but it is reminiscent of rice crispy treats with marshmallow and rice crispies. Aroma gets a little stronger as it warms. 4

T: Taste up front is nothing special, light lager style/pilsner-sequel notes. However, on the finish there is some sweetness that is fairly reminiscent of rice crispy although it's subtle. 3.75

M/D: Lighter bodied, carbonation moderate, drinkability is average. 3.5

O: Fairly disappointing. Granted I have high expectations for FB, and I applaud the effort, it just falls short. Not bad but I wouldn't seek it out. 3.75

Not terrible but not great. I don't taste much marshmallow or vanilla. Instead, I get a weed taste? Very weird. Maybe there is a hint of marshmallow on the back end. My husband has had the Sticky Nuts version of this beer and said it was wonderful.

I don't see a bottle date listed.

Appearance: The beer has a hazy gold body with a thick white head. It has good retention and lacing.

Aroma: It has a slightly floral potpourri aroma.

Taste: The beer has a fairly prominent cereal grain flavor with a sweetness to it.

Mouthfeel: It is smooth and easy to drink. It has a bit of a slickness to it towards the end.

Overall: It's a good Blonde Ale so if you are looking for that then this is what you want. The label does say that this is a "BLONDE ALE WITH VANILLA" and the vanilla never came through in the flavor or aroma. I would drink it again and I would share it with others but I would let them know it doesn't taste like vanilla. It tastes like it leans heavily on the grain for the sweetness.

Pale gold with a two finger head. Mellow aroma and flavor of vanilla cake. For a moment, it reminds me a bit of Anderson Valley's Summer Solstice but with a bit less flavor, depth, and sweetness. On the lightest side of medium-bodied. It's drier than expected, and is quite easy to drink, maybe a bit too easy. I think if the body was just slightly bigger, this would be a sticky treat indeed.

12 oz bottle with an August 2018 bottling date in a lager glass in November 2018.
Pours clear pale golden with a decent head.
Aroma: spicy hops and faint vanilla.
Flavor: the vanilla is also quite faint here ,,, until the finish and aftertaste. flavor. This make for a nice transition from the more hop forward, with bready grains carrying all the way thru. Less sweet (near neutral)than expected.

12oz bottle poured into a snifter

A- pours a pale straw color with a one-finger foamy bubbly white head that has short retention

S- rice and toasted malt, grainy, light vanilla

T- toasted malt up front, with a sugary sweetness that turns into a vanilla flavor as it nears the finish, lingers of what could be perceived as marshmallow

M- medium-light body with medium biting carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that continues into the finish

O- FB's food flavored beers are usually spot on, but this one falls a bit short, still worth a try

L: Had this on-tap at Capital Ale House - Innsbrook, poured into a pint glass. Had a bright, golden yellow color and a clear consistency. There was a half inch of creamy, fairly long-lasting head. Not a whole lot of lacing.

S: A pretty good aroma of malt, rice, sugar, marshmallows, and vanilla.

T: Tasted of a bit of malt (a steady presence), a surprising amount of vanilla, a little bit of rice, a whole lot of marshmallows (more than anything), and some sugar as well. Kind of an uneven flavor here. Yes, it does taste like Rice Krispie treats up front, but it's desperately thin and watery in the finish. Still, not a bad flavor.

F: A good amount of carbonation with a thin, watery finish. Light-bodied.

O: This is an uneven beer with some good qualities. Worth a look.

S: just sugar

T: I don't get much except artificial marshmallow flavor

M: thin and watery

O: it tastes like a Belgian homebrew my buddy Jacob and I messed up and tried to cover up by soaking rice crispy treats in it...

I was expecting something a bit sweeter with this, and this is definitely not it...

It all started well enough - looked great in the glass with it's yellow colored liquid, orange highlights, with thin foam and no lacing. The smell was by far the best attribute of this beer - a strong and slightly sweet smell of marshmallows - mouthwateringly delicious. The mouthfeel was decent enough too - light, carbonated, and surprisingly dry - from the first sip to the last. This leads me to the taste, which I had hoped would have been sweet, but was far from it. As advertised, this just wasn't what I was expecting. Overall, not a bad brew, actually solid enough as a blonde ale, just not sweet enough given all the markings on the label...

Lively carbonated, light yellow looking, & vanilla scented candle type of aroma on the nose. This does taste sort of like a rice krispie treat especially on the finish that is where that vanilla is left on your mouth. It is sweet tasting, but I don't think it is overly sweet like some people are describing the flavor to be. This beer needs a more yellow cake like type of mouthfeel to make this beer even better. Overall, the addition of the rice & vanilla does kick this blonde ale up a notch. I don't love it but I do like it a lot. I am thinking high B grade on this one. NO DATE on the bottle btw. Cheers! A: Poured into a snifter to a light straw gold topped by a dense two finger head which fades quickly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: Smells of vanilla and marshmallow with some citrus notes
T: Taste is sweet and marshmallow like on entry with a little vanilla and an almost rice like character on the palate. Swallow is more marshmallow and a little vanilla along with that rice not and a little citrus
M: This beer has a fairly light body which is close to being watery without crossing that line. The carbonation on the beer is slightly prickly and it has a refreshing finish.
O: Overall this isn't a bad beer at all but it does leave a little to be desired. The flavors are interesting but it would have been better for them to be a little more forward and for the base beer to bring a little more to the party.

In a small amount this is fun. I only could get it in a large bottle and just sitting down with a book and sipping that for an hour proved a little to much for my sensitivities. My sister and her friend tried it as well and liked it but more is more than enough. I would not buy it again but am glad I tried it. FB is a fine brewery.

Pours a clear bright yellow golden color with white head. Sweet rice krispie treats on the nose; follows onto the palate. Medium bodied and sticky. Finishes with marshmallow and rice. Really reminds me of a rice krispie, but after about 12 oz, it gets to be a little too much sweetness for me. Really good, but very sweet.

Pale gold in color lightly cloudy. Average head / foam. Minor lacing.

Smell is pilsner mixed with a strong sweet vanilla note and a minor citrus bit.

Taste is similar to the nose with light hops up front, light sweetness, vanilla, some cream, and a biscuit quality.

Mouthful is medium to light and smooth. Carbonation is average. Finish is semi sweet.

A nice blonde ale. The rice krispy aspect could have been taken up a notch but leaving it subtle lends itself to a more drinkable beer. It is enjoyable and refreshing. I would recommend sharing a bottle.

Poured into pint glass. Mildly healthy head that fades into a slight lacing. Cloudy dirty yellow color with constant carb in a sea of floaties. Mild vanilla scents on nose that are pretty much the prevalent taste. Very smooth feel with a mild zestiness on the back end.

Received in a trade and shared with JLindros.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice crystal clear light straw with a thin head that fades to leave a thin blanket and light wisps.

S - Aromas of nice vanilla cream, nice marshmallow notes, faint toasted dried cereal grains. There is an odd slightly fruity note that distracts this beer.

T - Taste is similar to the nose, the start is rather fruity cereal grain, leads to a dry toasted grain, very nice vanilla and marshmallow flavour. The start of the beer though with the fruity notes is really distracting.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, bit sticky and thin.

O - Overall this was a rather interesting beer. The vanilla and marshmallow notes were great, however, the start of the grain notes are oddly fruity which is very weird and detract from this beer.

Thanks to rudzud

Pours a decent fizzy fluffy head that fades fairly quickly, mostly clear pale yellow straw color.

Nose not bad, fair marshmallow aroma, some toasted cereal and rice like, fruit lemony like thing almost like captain crunch or other slight fruity cereal, raw bread dough, little vanilla.

Taste brings sweet fruity flavors, a little more like fruity cereal almost fruity pebbles but not quite that level, touch lemony, then goes into a little marshmallow and creamy toasty rice, little bitter grassy hop. Finish fairly dry, little bitter grassy hop, bit of lemon fruity cereal and marshmallow.

Mouth is med to lighter bod, decent but little light on carb.

Overall ok not great.

Pours a very light, white wine looking color with no head whatsoever. Smell is of light pineapple juice and marshmallow. Taste is a bit champagne like, along with some light lager notes. Aftertaste is dry and somewhat reminiscent of eating a rice Krispy treat.

Not sure if I would have guessed that this was a rice Krispy beer tasting blind. OK beer, worth trying once, would drink again but wouldn't go out of my way to get it.

Looks golden with a slight haze throughout. Smells of vanilla and marshmallows with a hint of a fruity essence and sugar sweetness. Taste of marshmallows hit you at first but became much more subdued as you kept drinking. There was a pleasant bitterness/toastiness on the back end that balanced out all the sweetness from the front end. Despite the two sides working in harmony the interplay leaves a strange almost astringent aftertaste that is not pleasant. Overall I would say it is a lackluster blonde ale that is trying too hard to remind you of rice crispies treats. If they would have just stuck to making it a vanilla/marshmallow blonde ale, I think it would have been better received. Would drink it again but would not seek it out.

Overly excited for after French toast but was let down. I think FB hit what they were aiming for but it was kinda weak. The beer was very one dimensional. The taste was a muted marshmallow with a hint of the crispy rice in the aftertaste. This beer was not what I was expecting as FB usually nails it with these novelty beers. If you see it I'd probably pick it up for a decent price but wouldn't go out of my way for it.

Reviewed from notes. Had on-tap at Mellow Mushroom in Brandon. Served in a small waisted pilsner glass.

A: Light gold, and mildly hazy. Forms a thin white head, albeit with good retention and low carbonation sensation.

S: Creamy sweetness, very light cracker malt, and marshmallows as well - it really does smell like Rice Krispies treats. Sweet but not overly cloying.

T: Cracker and pilsner malts, lactose sweetness, vanilla and marshmallow flavor. Light citrus and floral hops on the back end. The sweet marshmallowy vanilla lasts in the hang, but still not a sickly sweet.

M: Light body, no real alcohol presence. A bit lower carbonation sensation than I think would be ideal, but not at all flat.

O: An interesting beer, and one that I'm glad to have tried. As has been my experience with several other Funky Buddha "dessert" beers, it does what it says it's aiming to do and it is enjoyable on some level. It isn't anything I'd seek out repeatedly, but worth a drink for kitsch if nothing else.
