Style: American Brown Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.80%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
The big sister to our Bonita Applebum Apple Pie Brown, Muy Bonita is a bigger, badder ‘bum. This double brown ale flaunts a bodacious body and a stunning combination of real cinnamon, vanilla, and apples. So thick, she’s like a hip hop song.

i loved this beer, i know its a weird one, and it probably (almost certainly) doesnt need all the vanilla, but what a clever and well executed flavored ale from these guys, who now appear to me to be the kings of such things. this is an imperial brown ale with apple, cinnamon, and vanilla, and its a really nice brew. the brown ale seems light to me, less imperial in flavor than in alcohol, but holding a nice inch of white airy head over a thinner and lighter milk chocolate brown body. the cinnamon is the least relevant of the added ingredients. i get apple cider, sweet and tart, red apple skins, right away with the chocolate malt, nuttiness and roasty barley, and the sweet overdosed vanilla, but the cinnamon is hard to come by in both nose and taste. i think more of it would be too much at the same time, turning this from an all season sipper to something seasonally specific and festive, but more limited. i do think the bitter spice would be useful against all the vanilla, which takes over most nuance here. i do like that it drinks a little lighter, not heavy at all, but still quite sweet. the apple is true to the real fruit, but this never ends up being too autumnal because of how light the malts are in it. the booze is well hidden, and if the sugar was scaled back some it would be a lot better, but i like it a lot, there really isnt a beer like this out there in the market. clever i think, with the apple and cinnamon. id love to see the same ingredients in am imperial cream ale too...

Large shared bottle in Atlanta.
Deep, clear, red brown body with a very good tan head.
Very appealing aroma smells like the item at a bakery I'd want.
The flavor is too sweet to drink, say, a whole pint of this but it is quite appealing in small quantities. Fine choice for a shared dessert beer.

Funky Buddha Brewery - Muy Bonita. 8.8% ABV. 12oz snifter ordered at the brewery.

Look: Same as the base Doc Brown Ale. Deep amber/maroon colored body, arriving with a thin off white ring of lacing.

Smell: Just as described on the menu. Sweet apples, cinnamon, vanilla, and caramel.

Feel: Full bodied, very smooth with a little carbonation.

Taste: Just like the smell. Sweet green apple, cinnamon, loads of vanilla, and caramel.

Overall: This is a step up from their regular Doc Brown Ale, brewed with apples, cinnamon, and vanilla, which becomes apparent when you smell it. This was so good, me and my brother left with 4 bottles to bring back home.

On tap at the Brewery. Served in a snifter.

Appearance - Deep murky brown with a nice white head. Thick collar. Kinda pond watery.

Smell - Lots of cinnamon and spices. Some apple and caramel.

Taste - Lots of caramel. Like a caramel candy apple. Cinnamon spice kicks up in the back with a spike a booze.

Mouthfeel - Thick and kinda heavy. Sluggish to drink.

Overall - Pretty accurate treatment, but very sweet.

When BA had individual scores for look, scent, taste, etc, this would have gotten a 1 on scent because it is truly offensive. Immediately poured it smells of feces.....shit, quite frankly. After about 5 minutes it tapers off to cinnamon, ginger snap cookies, sugar and Apple's.

The solution is the flavor is simply fantastic and the new scoring helps. I taste cinnamon, Apple brandy, ginger spice, ginger bread, sweet caramel, nutmeg and a finish of pumpkin. This is very very good and worth seeking out, just wait to smell it for a few minutes.
