0.5l bottle with a date stamp of 30:06:16 - which I presume is the best before date. Not sure. Served in a tulip stout glass. Purchased at Jungle Jim's in Fairfield OH.
Appearance: Brown with a ruby red highlights when held up to the light. No foam or lacing.
Smell: Dark wheat / rye bread with some molasses and lemon/orange/berry fruit notes.
Taste: Bready - and quite sweet. Some fruit and lemon flavors again. Quite cloying though - way too sweet in a way and not enough of the grains. Unbalanced.
Mouthfeel: Very light carbonation, approaching flat. A bit sticky on the tongue.
Overall / Drinkability: I've been told that the best type of Kvass you can get is that freshly brewed out of the back of a hand carried tank on wheels on a hot summer's day. So it's winter and perhaps this beer would better during the summer. Maybe it's an acquired taste that I've not acquired yet, but even then, this is very sweet beer and it's hard to drink and finish. In fact, I couldn't finish it. I was able to finish 2/3 of the glass and just couldn't finish the rest. Smells great, nice color, but it's not good after that. Well - I'll keep trying to find the right Kvass, or I just have to wait until I'm actually in the right part of the world to have it fresh from the tank on a hot day.

Poured from 12oz bottle into a dimpled mug.
Appearance: medium brown hue with a moderate haze and a thin layer of tan foam. Not too bad.
Smell: rather sweet and quite raisiny with a good aroma of dark rye bread. I like it.
Taste: bready and raisiny with a good balance between the elements. Sweetish, but not cloyingly sweet like some kvasses can be. I dig it.
Mouthfeel: quite light and fizzy; boring, but fits the style.
Overall: this is a pretty tasty kvass. I feel like I could drink a lot of it.
