From a can, pours a thick dark brown with a big dark brown head.
This smells truly amazing. Big coffee nose, a little vegetable and earthy note, and a little fresh green pepper, dark malt, but man this coffee is nice. The flavor is incredible, lots of coffee, dark malt, toasty, with hints of chocolate. It is a little syrupy and I get a very distinct maple flavor on the finish.
Overall, quite delicious.

Poured from a 16 OZ can into a pint glass. The appearance is a pitch black color with a small tan head. The aroma is coffee and mocha. The taste is coffee and malt, very nice.

The darkest on my "local sampler" flight at the Tap House in Greenville SC. Rich brown/black color with obvious tan foam head. Rich coffee in the nose and taste, with a hint of chocolate. I don't usually do higher gravity beer, but given the sample size portion, this was perfect. It was great rendition of the style, but likely a bit too overpowering with dinner. Regardless, worth trying--particularly fresh, on tap (as was the case with me around the corner from the brewery).

Pours pitch black. The most massive head volume I've ever seen, unfortunately it's due to over carbonation. World class retention and lacing. Because of the over carbonation - to a ridiculous level - I have to consider the head volume a flaw and a world class appearance is reduced to a normal 3.
Very nice nose that is predominately dark roast coffee over light chocolate. Light roast and malt notes are also present.
Medium body with a somewhat creamy texture. After a 15 wait, the head subsides and carbonation has decreased to a normal level of effervescence.
The flavor profile is outstanding but is extremely coffee forward. It begins with a sweet wave of malt, mostly caramel with nice chocolate notes. Next comes the dark espresso roast coffee that obliterates all in its path. The middle has a mild bitterness that is char and roast more so than hop oriented. Towards the finish, caramel and chocolate reemerge as the background. The finish has a hint of dryness and a subtle tart quality residing over a lingering espresso flavor and bitterness.
