L: Pours a dark brown color with hints of ruby red and a creamy brown head that dissipates fairly quickly and leaves no lacing on the glass.

S: Strong note of dark roasted malt and milk chocolate, with notes of char and a little smoke. Very enticing smell.

T: Strong notes of dark roasted malt and milk chocolate. A little bit of dark stone fruit. Not quite as good as the aroma but still nice.

F; Medium to full body, carbonation is a little high and cola like for this beer.

O: I love the aroma of this beer, but the taste and feel don't quite follow the aroma.

As expected with the style, this one was really watery, but the flavor profile was very solid. I got tons of roasted malts and nice subtle notes of chocolate.

Pours a dark, opaque brown. Characteristic roasty flavor without being too ashy or burnt. Moderate hop bitterness—a little more than I might prefer but tolerable. Light bodied. Smooth but for a slightly harsh aftertaste. A very decent porter.

Appearance: Opaque brown, verging on black, with a small tan head, which quickly and utterly collapses to a dusting of foam. Thin, fine-beaded lacing lines the glass wall in an unbroken sheet..

Aroma: Roasted nuts and cold coffee dominate the aroma, with a bit of bitter cocoa as well.

Taste: Opens with mild cold coffee notes, bitter cocoa soon follows. There is also an undercurrent of dark, roasted malt, and a prominent nutty flavor. Late in the taste some earth and char appear.

Mouth feel: Fairly full, with somewhat sharp carbonation.

Drinkability/notes: Quite nice, seems more than appropriate for this cool and rainy spring day, which at 52F, feels more like fall. I would enjoy having this again.

Presentation: Packaged in a standard twelve-ounce aluminum can, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.

I'm drinking from a can at Big Bend National Park in the Chisos Mountain Lodge after a brutal ten mile hike. I can't see it so my rating for its look is a guess. It tastes sweet and fruity. Not much smell from the can. Feels a little thin. Overall drinkable, not memorable, but as they say, "any old porter in a storm". It was here when I needed it.
