Went to big bend brewing on July 4th and what a trip! Great place and the standout was the number 22 porter. Easy drinking dry porter. Subtle flavors and good mouthfeel. This would be a great daily drinker especially with the low six pack price. I wish it had a bit more flavor and smell to it.

Pours dark brown with copious soapy white head, good retention. Smell of a roasted malts, an non specific fruit ester and a nutty aroma. Taste like a well balanced nut brown ale, hint of dark malts with a fairly astringent quality from the copious carbonation. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, significant carbonation leads to a very clean finish. A very pleasant nut brown ale, though marketed as a porter. Easily quaffable, I wouldn’t hesitate to pick this one up. Very good.

Appearance: black towards the center but you can definitely see the dark brown hues towards the outer edges of this Porter. The head is a light tan color, dense and three fingers thick and lasts for some time.
Smell: Roasted malts, chocolate, mild coffee, caramel and a little peanut butter, and toffee.
Taste: Mild roasted malts, mild butter and very little chocolate, mildy bitter on the corners of the mouth. There’s a strong roasted malt flavor in its aftertaste.
Mouthfeel: light to medium bodied, mild carbonation but very smooth.
Overall: Very smooth over all but a little lacking in taste, still I recommend trying this one.

A: The beer is very dark brown in color. It poured with a finger high beige colored head that has good retention properties and consistently left a short head covering up he surface.
S: Moderate aromas of nutty malts are present in the nose.
T: Similar to the smell, the taste is very nutty and also has some hints of dark malts. Neither bitterness nor sweetness are perceptible.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer reminds me a lot like a full-bodied nut brown ale given all of the nutty flavors. However, it is very drinkable and goes down easily.

Very thin for a porter not offensive, just really lacking.

Appearance: Opaque brown, verging on black, with a small tan head, which quickly and utterly collapses to a dusting of foam. Thin, fine-beaded lacing lines the glass wall in an unbroken sheet..

Aroma: Roasted nuts and cold coffee dominate the aroma, with a bit of bitter cocoa as well.

Taste: Opens with mild cold coffee notes, bitter cocoa soon follows. There is also an undercurrent of dark, roasted malt, and a prominent nutty flavor. Late in the taste some earth and char appear.

Mouth feel: Fairly full, with somewhat sharp carbonation.

Drinkability/notes: Quite nice, seems more than appropriate for this cool and rainy spring day, which at 52F, feels more like fall. I would enjoy having this again.

Presentation: Packaged in a standard twelve-ounce aluminum can, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.

Dark brown semi-clear pour with a tan one-finger head. Light malty aroma. Flavor has mostly nutty tastes with a hint of caramel and chocolate towards the end.
