you really have to like smoke to appreciate this one, and if you do, boy is it good! this one has been out for awhile now, and i was afraid i had missed it, but i was lucky enough to have one shared with me, i love blackberry farm and all of their beers, didnt want to miss this! it pours a murky pale straw sort of color but almost like some iced tea has been blended in, its got a light brown color, like the layer where an arnold palmer merges the two elements in the middle of the glass. a tall fizzy white head sits on top and doesnt budge. i get hotdog rolls, campfire smoke, bacon grease, and raw wheat in the nose, as intense as the smoke is i somehow still get the saison underneath, which i think is the real success of this one. its heavily smoked, about as much as you can fit into a pale beer like this i reckon, meaty and earthy and just short of acrid but bitter for sure. oddly bready from the malt while remaining dry, faint oak in here, hickory, straw and hay, white wheat, and a very mellow belgian sort of saison yeast that somehow doesnt seem out of place with everything else going on. smoke dominates though, some iodine and medicinal element to it, preservatives like you find in sliced bread, fizzy carbonation, and a unique heaviness and lightness at the same time. this is weird stuff, strange as it gets really, and probably a good one to be sharing. i appreciate this greatly, its super unique and very flavorful from the smoke, seems to have aged pretty well!

Poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a nice looking pale orange color with a finger's worth of white foamy head that slid off fairly slow. Mild lace glided along the sides of the glass, slightly concave.
The aroma had some bacon, dark bread/toast, mild grassy hop tones, cracker-like malt with a little peppercorn, some straw, and a tickle of herbal character on the backside.
The flavor somewhat leaned towards an ashtray but not in a bad way as that bacon, peppercorn, straw and herbal sweet and spicy qualities seemed to dabble with the smokiness fairly decently. Aftertaste was somewhat ashy/light smokey with the bacon, and then grassy hop tones.
The mouthfeel was almost medium bodied with a fair sipping quality about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt pretty much on par. Mild smokey/bacon/grassy finish.
Overall, pretty nice smoked beer with some saison qualities coming out in a decent manner. I'd have again.

Pours clear, brilliant amber (SRM 6-8) with a long lasting white meringue. Dense columns of rapidly rising carbonation crackle as they breach the surface.

An Offero glass focuses the mild campfire smoke that yields to present fried Taylor Ham. A modest backdrop of horse blanket yields with warmth that brings out straw, peppercorns and faint herbal qualities.

The initial sip prompts memories of Triscuit crackers and thin sliced apples. Actual flavors include smoked ham, peppercorns and caraway. Warmth releases faint lemon while the long mild finish is grainy and dry.

Texture is similar to fine sandpaper as punctuated by carbonation. The body is full and alcohol is as expected. Late in each sip the texture becomes cottony.

This beer demonstrates how delicate smoke can enhance even an earthy Saison style. This marriage is nice, both refreshing and hearty. I enjoyed it while relaxing on a bright, sunny, cold, late winter afternoon.

Hazy yellow color with off-white head. Lots of rauchmalt and some yeast notes on the aroma. Taste starts slightly sweet with wheat notes, some smoked ham and finishes with a herbal bitterness. Medium body, quite smooth on the palate, medium carbonation. Overall it's a really nice smoked beer with Bamberg style malt character but saison style yeast flavors.

750ml, caged and corked bottle, a collaboration between Evil Twin and Blackberry Farm.

This beer pours a slightly hazy, yet bright medium golden yellow colour, with a near-teeming tower of puffy, loosely foamy, and sort of fizzy off-white head, which leaves but a few instances of lazy day cloudy sky lace around the glass as it slowly recedes.

It smells of well-smoked porcine meat, grainy and crackery wheat malt, a sassy Belgian yeastiness, some muddled tropical fruit notes, toasted rainbow peppercorns, tanned leather, and some mild herbal, floral, and wet straw-like hoppiness. The taste is bready and doughy wheaten malt, a further bit of plain cereal graininess, some laid-back sizzling and smoking Canadian bacon meatiness, testy Low Countries yeast, some apple, pear, and generic exotic fruitiness, a hint of free-range wet ash, black and white pepper dust, and more gentle leafy, straw-like, and herbal hop bitters.

The carbonation is rather involved in its aggressive frothiness, the body a decent middleweight, and smooth, I suppose, in the same manner that Islay Scotch, or a fine cigar (or, hell, cigarettes!) can be - cognitive dissonance, man! It finishes off-dry, the malt and fruity esters still trying to cast off the yoke of the smoke.

Overall, this is indeed a well-made smoked beer, one that just happens to be a Farmhouse ale - it's difficult to tell, at times. But that's ok - smoke fans are like hop fans are like sour fans - as long as there's enough of the thing you want, a few other essences falling by the wayside is no big dealio. That's what drinking this one seems like.

From a large bottle, this brew pours a milky orange-gold, with a tall, thick, stable head. The aroma has smoke, like a distant campfire, with a little spice and some underlying malt and funk. The taste has malt, fruit, yeast, pepper, spice, smoke, and char. Complex. The body is medium, and smoky complexity rules the finish. Much better than I'd hoped.
