Pours a clear yellow/gold, pillowy white head forms, disappears quick, leaves a ring, some lace spots. Smell is sweet, very citrusy, bit of corn, some floral, hay, interesting. Taste is very sweet at first, quite sugary for a euro lager, some hay, grassiness and a bit of citrus, but very sweet. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation. Not bad but the sweetness is too much to make it very drinkable.

L: Transparent pale straw yellow. Little head.
S: Strong apple juice and skunky hops
T: Well balanced and quite flavourful. Muted apple juice flavour with toasted malts.
F: Has a nice full mouth feel and subtle carbonation. A bit dry.
O: Surprisingly flavourful and rich, interesting but not my favourite. Still went great with a meal.

Had this one in Budapest. Light gold color, medium head. A medium bodied lager style beer. Malty and mildly hoppy. Smooth clean taste with a mild flavor. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly off, like a pureed banana. Not bad, not great, just middle of the road.

Light gold color, medium head. A medium bodied lager style beer. Malty and mildly hoppy. Smooth clean taste with a mild flavor. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly off, a slight banana sort of taste. Not bad tasting, just a little strange. Still a pretty refreshing beer.

Golden color, average foam. Quite carbonated. Nothing of.
Malty smell, some hops in the background. Hay. Decent, but nothing of.
The same for the taste. Normal, malt. Nothing of.
Correct, maybe a little too carbonated, but clean.
Medium-light body.
Some hop in the aftertaste, with the malt. A little too heavy.
Nothing of.

500ml can...no telling the date of racking.

Poured a clear pale straw colored lager with a 1 finger tight-pored white cap with moderate retention that lasts out the drink as a surface lace.

Aroma is muted but floral with sweet grainy notes.

Up front light sweet maltiness, light herbal-citrus hopping, bland and over filtered with a watery mouth feel...moves quicklly to an uneventful finish defined as clean and 2 dimensional.

Inoffensive all malt elementary commercial lager but just too bland and undefined to satisfy a real lager lover.

Another bland, over-filtered euro canned lager that seems to clutter shelf space at the LCBO..I wouldn’t mind but this stuff is way over priced for what you get...should be a buck a beer.

I ran across a single tallboy of this at the local Trader Joes. 69Cents.

It pours a pale golden color and i could not get a decent head out of it. The one i did get from the pour was quickly subsided. There is lots of carbonative action which creates little loose islets on the top of the beer.

Also, there is not much to the smell here. Pretty sweet and a little fruity, i cant destinguish what flaver, though.

The taste is about average. A little less. It tastes like a pilsner w/ no outstanding characteristics.

eh, 69Cents for a pint, what do you expect.

I ran across this skunky green bottle beer in Osaka and I was pissed that I let again blew money on a green bottle just to get something skunky. This looks no different than bud when poured. Smells like unwipped skunk ass, tastes like unwipped skunk ass. The mouth feel was creamy. I would not drink this no matter how bad I wanted to catch a buz.

Poured from a 500ml can into a pils glass. Can had an expiration date of 07/2008 on the bottom. Brew had a clear golden yellow color topped with a fluffy snow white head that fizzled down to nothing and left zero lace. Sparse carbonation lazily floated to the surface.
Nose was all-malt; slightly bready and with a smidge of cut hay. Very low hops profile in the aroma.
Ditto the balance in the taste. Rather dusty malt bill with a corresponding sweet yeastiness. Hops were a vague afterthought at the back of the tongue and only became noticeable after I was nearly halfway through the glass. Feel was a tad thin with a hint of graininess or grit.
Considering the style, I'd say Kaiser Bier is pretty much on the mark. That said, this isn't a style I'm overly impressed with. Not a beer I'd go out of my way to seek out.

An uninspired brew. Hardly smells, tastes like anything. Some citrus peel character, but generally thin-bodied and uninteresting.

Pours up looking fairly good with a moderate head that quickly settles to a ring. Watery and a bland bitterness to finish. Not offensive, but not worth the trouble either.

Give it a pass.

A fairly harmless bit of slop that left a tinny adhesion to my palate, Kaiser is aromaless and tastes like unidentifiable vegetable matter.

The head and lace were average and were probably the best things about this beer. I know my glass was clean when I poured the beer but when I held it up to the light it looked like it contained sea monkeys or something.

Not terrible - I actually finished mine - but not very good, either.

Pours a clear straw color, pretty pale. The head has poor retention and leaves a medium amount of lace on the glass. There's more malt in the nose than I anticipated, doughy and bready. Subdued spicy hops and a wee bit of vegetal DMS is also present. The taste lightly grainy with some barley husk and low hop bitterness. A light soapy, veggie feel is noticeable in the back. The mouthfeel is lightly carbonated for a lager. The finish is not very bitter and very short.

This is an OK lager. It has a few flavor imperfections but its not undrinkable.

Brewed under licence by Brau Union in Hungary.

The colour is pale straw yellow; the white foam is two fingers thick. There is some lacing.

The smell is a bit hoppy and bitter with some sweet malt. It is a bit stronger than the normal lager.

The taste is clean and fresh, a good lager/pilsner. The taste is a bit sweet (adjuncts?) and neutral with medium body. The aftertaste is clean and neutral with some bitter flavours.

The carbonation is average with small bubbles.

As one could expect, this Austrian pils is something between a German pils and a Czech pilsner.

A - Clear light gold. Head isn't bad for the style.

S - Malty with a hint of lemon and metal. A whiff of skunk on opening the can, but that drifts off quickly with the rest of the aroma.

T - Typical pale euro. Again a touch of lemon, and a decent hop bite.

M - Again typical. Fizzy carbonation and light body.

D - Typical.

Still more of the same. Another Pale Euro Lager, another 500ml can, another LCBO mix-and-match 8-pack. Here we go:

Pours a cloudy straw yellow (chill-haze), with slightly visible effervescence. Capped by two fingers of energetic head, which recedes to about a half a finger, and then a quarter, and then a few rings. Substantial lacing, however.

Smell is unusual, and not so hot. Pretty neutral, with maybe hints of grain (horse feed?), and some grassy/floral hops. Faintly bready malt. Almost a fuesal alcohol note in the background. Weak and bland.

Taste is more of the same. Bland, not not American macro bland, because there's at least some hop flavour. Grassy/floral, but almost in a skunked way. Weak malt. Acidic, very faint malt. Dry and bitter. Astringent. I haven't had many Austrian brews, but this disappointing flavour seems to be a trend.

Mouthfeel is astringent, and it's slightly overcarbonated. Body, however, isn't so bad. Drinkability is low--between the astringency, the bitterness, and the notes of fuesal alcohol, there's very little that I'd like less.

Kaiser certainly looks fit for a king: polished golden with a bounteous crown of white foam atop. In suitable Austrian fashion, it has bubbles that prance around like Viennese waltzers. Indeed, it looks majestic enough to be hung in the halls of Schönbrunn Palace.

The aroma, on the other hand, does not at all follow in the proud Austro-German tradition; this weak, cloyingly sweet and somewhat chemical smell is nothing like the rich, clean, malty 'helles' lagers that have made Austria and Germany renown for their beer.

The palate, likewise, is marred by a corn syrup-like flavour that wavers between insipid and unpleasant. Some sips are distasteful and others... are like nothing at all. The texture it leaves is unnaturally dry, like swabbing the tongue with a cotton ball.

The lager would certainly be better off with more actual malt and less adjunct or extract. Hops would be a welcomed addition too. There's too much sweetness and not enough toast or breadiness. It has a mouthfeel about as pleasant as that of a sponge.

$2.05 is a very reasonable price for a tall can - normally. But in the case of Kaiser it's practically a king's ransom; a lager this poorly made, which uses such inferior ingredients, is hardly worth 2 cents. Don't get me wrong, I had no problem finishing the can - it's nothing undrinkable - but it's also not something worth drinking in the first place.

A 500 mL can picked up at the LCBO; BB date June 2012. The last in a brief series of reviews cataloging some of the mostly-interchangeable Euro lagers that take up far too much of the store's shelf space.

Pours a bright, clear golden-yellow colour, with a generous, creamy eggshell-white head about two fingers thick. It slowly seeps away over a period of minutes, leaving a patchy cap and collar. I actually kind of like the smell of this stuff, and considering the style that's a bit of a feat in my eyes...pale barley malts, with some grassiness and sour lemon citrus; nothing out of the ordinary but the nose is a bit firmer than many other offerings from the style.

That's probably the high point, though. The flavour is acceptable but very run-of-the-mill - grainy pale malts, crackers, with a (very) tiny bit of lemony-herbal hops in the finish. Some weird sour notes I can't really put my finger on (edit: maybe it's the ascorbic acid, or maybe it's just more lemony hop). Clean finish; no flavours linger on the palate. Thin-bodied and pretty watery. Average carbonation for the style, with a bit of a bite.

Boring, without a doubt, but it's an EPL - what did you expect? This is a clean-tasting Euro lager with no serious flaws or adjunct notes. Cheaper than most comparable imports, which alone makes it a respectable choice (if you like Euro lagers anyway), but not something I'd ever recommend or seek out.

[Updated Aug. 10 2014]

Another 500 mL can. If a beer is affordable and not very difficult to find, I like to give it at least two or three shots before I decide to completely give up on it (or not). Kaiser Beer is at that point... sure it's cheap, but it also has that green apple flavour unique to cheap lagers, which I happen to not really enjoy very much. Bottom tier as far as imported lagers go - stick with Gosser or Stiegl if you want to try a good Austrian lager.

Final Grade: 2.9, a C grade.

.5L emptied into a pilsener.

A: Pours a straw yellow with a 2 finger head which quickly receeds to a trace. Lacing is sparse.

S: Average at best, with a hint of earthy hops.

M: Medium body with decent carbonation.

T: Underwhelming, nothing special here, just a standard Märzen. Saaz hops at the fore with middling barley malt rounding out the experience. Hoppy aftertaste that lingers.

D: Nothing hateful here, but there are much better alternatives from Austria.

.5 liter can labeled as Kaiser Bier smuggled back from Dubai by Joe M, thanks for the opportunity.
Pours a crystal clear light golden color with a smallish bone white head. It almost looks like apple juice in my glass. Aromas of sweet bready pilsner malt with a hint of caramelized sugar. Light floral hop aroma, and I do mean light! The flavor is sweet bready pilsner malt with a touch of light pomme fruitiness and hints of spicy hop. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation. Far from world class, a bit one dimensional, but this certainly doesn't suck.

This bottle was brewed in Bulgaria.

Appearance: Poured into a glass from the 500mL bottle. Dark gold color with lots of carbonation. 1 finger of pure white head lasts maybe 5 seconds. The bottle is labeled "The Kaiser of Beers." Obviously a ripoff of Bud's "King of Beers."

Smell: Not much going on here. Light hint of grain.

Taste: Grainy taste with no bitterness. This is truly a Budweiser ripoff.

Feel: watery

Notes: I don't know what the hell this is - an Austrian beer brewed in Bulgaria that tastes like an American Macro (which it is - there are adjucts in the mix). If anything the beer is pretty impressive simply because it tries to be so many things at the same time and manages to fail at all of them. Overpriced.

I tried this beer on July 6, 2007 after purchasing it from my local LCBO store. It poured a translucent pale golds colour with a 1" fluffy head that stuck around for a minute or two. The aroma was slightly skunky and not at all appealing. As with a lot of lager/pale lager types, the mouthfeel was crisp and clean on the tongue with hints of carbonation. The taste was better than the smell with some malts and grass tones.

5.00% abv, 500mL. Poured into a Stella Artois gold-rimmed glass.

Straw body, big white head that goes to just a cloud. Syrupy looking.. bleh

Aromas of banana, bready malt, lightly hopped. Booze. Cookie dough. Metal, soap. Cooked vegetable, grain husk.

Low-medium carbonation. Light malt, soap on the palate. A little spice. Loads of residual sugar and some pungent maltiness. Finish is a little odd tasting, too grainy and one dimensional, medium length finish. Now I know what it is. Popcorn and butter.

I wouldn't reach for another if someone paid me.

To the LCBO - WHY? There is a whole world of fantastic beer and all we have is yet another poor-mediocre EPL on the shelf.
