Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.20%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Orderville is an aggressive, fragrant beer that blends the fruit-forward character of Mosaic hops with the dank, resinous stickiness of Simcoe hops. The resulting beer is immensely complex and enjoyable, with an unmistakably bangin’ aroma and a fully saturated hop flavor and finish. The cracker-dry body keeps the focus squarely on the massive, incredibly delicious hop character.

Two month old can poured into an Spigleau IPA glass. Gorgeous orange-gold body with a slight chill haze and an enormous, fluffy white head that held up well to the first half glass worth of sips, leaving a soapy film on the top of the beer and down the glass the rest of the way.

Smell is pleasant and inviting but quite mild. Grassy, bready, and a little soapy initially, then the sweet citrus fruit pokes through. Lemon, lime, tangerine, and just a hit of grapefruit. Again, very subdued.

Taste is much brighter and more interesting. Though still mild compared to most of today’s coastal IPAs, it has a perfect sweetness that makes it special. Combination malty and citrus sweetness up front, with just a hint of sugar, that lasts through the entire sip. Absolutely lovely. Grapefruit pith and citrus bitterness appears mid-sip, with some lemongrass and pine resin lingering in the fringes. The malty sweetness re-emerges to see the sip through. I dig a meaningful amount of sweetness in my hoppy beers, so I’m loving it even if the beer isn’t overly complex.

Feel is very, very soft and pillowy. Very smooth, nicely carbonated, and coating but not sticky.

22oz bottle from Whole Foods in Hillcrest, no bottle date I can find. More yellow than orange color, good head. Aroma is hoppy, good but not notable. Flavor definitely has Mosaic and the bottle refers to a "cracker like body" that is about spot on describing the malt. Good beer but not a repeat purchase.

Mosaic bomb. Very good ipa, probably falling just short of world class. One of the better mosaic forward ipas ive had, but not quite as good as St Archers for example... I guess the best way I can label this beer; a mosaic ipa well above average.

Taste is awesome. Mouthfeel leaves a little to be desired. Pair with smoked chicken or spicy mango fish tacos

hazy golden body, half finger of frothy white head with good retention. Aroma isn't very strong but I catch notes of apricot, and restrained pine and grapefruit. Taste follows the nose - apricot and pine are more pronounced with grapefruit rind scattered throughout. A nice extra kick of hop resin and bitterness with some extra drying effect. Interesting finishing note that is almost grassy and light - could be partly from the chapstick I had to put on due to the weather... damn chapstick. Mouthfeel is still fairly pillowy but the big hop presence breaks through the milky film of the malt bill and attaches to the tongue like healthy hop resin should. This is a really tasty and enjoyable hazy IPA. Nothing unique that stand out but certainly well-crafted.

Consumed on tap at Modern Times in North Park...

The color is a deep and pale yellow orange. The aroma is very tropical/fruity. Not a very "hop forward" scent, but you can smell the hops in there. The taste is just like the aroma, tropical/fruity, with a "biscuity" aspect to it like others have said. Goes down very very easy for 7.2% Medium carbonation light mouthfeel.

Personally, I prefer those "hop forward" beers and my standard in stone IPA. This isn't really a hop forward IPA style, but still very good and makes me want to try other beers Modern Times offers. Overall 4.25/5

Poured from 16oz can into a tulip. Aromas are bursting of fruit with lovely smells of melon. Poured with a beautiful yellow honey colored head. Taste just like it smells, mango and melon and slight pine tinge. Hardly any carbonation with a 30 second rest. I am real believer in 90% of the Modern Times brews!
