22oz bottle split between a couple of taster glasses
Last noted from 10.07.15

This is a nice DIPA but falls a tad short of being something really great. Well balanced in that it hides the alcohol well.
Bright straw gold with minimal hop haze as the refined beverage comes to settle in the glass. Capped with smallish layer of bone white suds. Light dots of stick noted.
Grassy resinous pine needle and mild dank herbals with a distinct earthiness. Some restrained grapefruit and tropical flora. Decent pale malt backbone and a light honey like sweetness. Flavor is sticky dank oils, grass, and earthy evergreens answered by some juicy grapefruit and spiced papaya. Malty caramel, bread, and cracker all come together with a hit of earthy hop bitterness that lingers. Super dry finish. Slight grainy quality. Was hoping for a bit more pop but still has some nice flavors.

Bottle labeled, inconspicuously (had to be held at the right angle of light to see it), with 322 G 1134 2014 (2014? Uh oh!)

Appearance - Pours hazy and golden in color with an off-white, finger width head. Fair retention, then dissipates to reveal a thin, broken layer of surface suds. Lacing is streaky, with broken lines and a few spots here and there.

Smell - Orange with a touch of pine and a near equal grainy malt aroma that touches on a hint of caramel.

Taste - Follows the nose. Hoppy at first, with predominant orange character and a lesser note of pine, but then the malts creep in with grain, a touch of sweet caramel, and a cardboard-like staleness. The hops nosedive quickly, leaving a mostly flat, stale finish with a light sour twang.

Mouthfeel - Medium to full body with low carbonation. Nearly lifeless. Goes down easy enough though.

Overall - I bought this at the Rancho Cucamonga Total Wine a few weeks ago. The TW label had a date of 10/22/2015, and since I couldn't see the nigh invisible date on the bottle, I assumed TW's check-in label would have at least been within a month or so of the bottling date and I purchased. The discovered '2014' and generally stale delivery here tells me this beer is at least a year old; I'd be willing to put money on it. For shame. I suppose I'll just have to be continually more wary of what I'm buying.
