This was a highly recommended beer from a salesman in the beer isle at Whole Foods in DTLA. And that's where it stops. Nothing special, but I finished it off because I wanted to catch a buzz while watching Star Trek TOS with my family. Yes, Star Trek. I mean, this beer is better than Sam Adams, but not much better.

P: Hazy golden pour witha nice frothy beige/white head. Consistent lacing.
A: Resiny pine, citrus
T: Resiny pine, citrus, mostly grapefruit, hoppy, fruity, almost banana, some sweetness.
M: Clean, medium body but the finish is not quite there.
O: A very good, almost great DIPA, Mail order beer ain't bad. Brings the west coast to the Midwest!

Bottle labeled, inconspicuously (had to be held at the right angle of light to see it), with 322 G 1134 2014 (2014? Uh oh!)

Appearance - Pours hazy and golden in color with an off-white, finger width head. Fair retention, then dissipates to reveal a thin, broken layer of surface suds. Lacing is streaky, with broken lines and a few spots here and there.

Smell - Orange with a touch of pine and a near equal grainy malt aroma that touches on a hint of caramel.

Taste - Follows the nose. Hoppy at first, with predominant orange character and a lesser note of pine, but then the malts creep in with grain, a touch of sweet caramel, and a cardboard-like staleness. The hops nosedive quickly, leaving a mostly flat, stale finish with a light sour twang.

Mouthfeel - Medium to full body with low carbonation. Nearly lifeless. Goes down easy enough though.

Overall - I bought this at the Rancho Cucamonga Total Wine a few weeks ago. The TW label had a date of 10/22/2015, and since I couldn't see the nigh invisible date on the bottle, I assumed TW's check-in label would have at least been within a month or so of the bottling date and I purchased. The discovered '2014' and generally stale delivery here tells me this beer is at least a year old; I'd be willing to put money on it. For shame. I suppose I'll just have to be continually more wary of what I'm buying.

220z bomber poured into a tulip glass

Warm copper color with thin head. Surprising lack of nose....

Taste in piney / resin, with a citrus floral finish. Nice body to it...somewhat light feeling for a DIPA. Not syrupy or overly sweet.

Solid offering, but I wish the nose was bigger

22 ounce bomber poured into a tulip glass

A: Pours a dark orange, amber color with a white head, decent amount of carbonation streaming up the side, lots of lacing, looks like a typical IIPA.

A: Not much on the aroma, some hints of grapefruit and lemon peel, some pine, not much as far as maltiness.

T: Subtle citrus flavors, some pine, resin, finish is dry and resiny.

M: Medium bodied, dry finish.

O: Lacks the punch of a IIPA, some notes of citrus and resin, also lacks malt. I've never understood how malt balances a IIPA, now I do, beer really falls off on the end.

Poured into a pint glass

Golden yellow. White head. Good looking dipa

Smells is malt, pine, citrus. Not as hop forward as you would expect from a San Diego double iPa

Mild tast, hops, pine.

Good beer. Just fails to stand out in a crowded field.
