Meager dusting across the surface for a head, swiftly evaporates to nothing, while it was there bright white hue, the lacing in turn is close to nonexistent. Pinkish red colored liquid, sparkling clear with a near metallic sheen, looks like a glass of rosé, the bubbles some good activity but they are few and far between. The nose is almost entirely cherries, no lies told on the label, some lemon and pie crust flakes, supporting mineral to crushed stone dust notes, sort of monochrome but, hey, I like cherries. Medium-bodied, taut prickle from the carbonation frames the mouth entry and lessens the deep sweetness of the cherries, close to maraschino cherry in flavor, although there are moments of “sour.” Then there is the strong salty, saline quality sort of comes out of left field. Palpable honey dappled pie dough and crust, freshly baked. The lemony accents help keep it fresh and lively. As in the nose it lacks complexity yet there’s no doubting the persistence of the cherry flavor. On the whole, though, it does not last that long through the finish. A lighter styled “dessert beer”?

Sampled at a tasting. Amber/pink pour with a thin head. Smells of malts and salts. Tastes sour, like apple cider, cherries, salt and pears. Medium body with a high carbonation.

Orange pinkish color with white head. Aroma is fruity, sour and savory. Taste starts sour up-front, really fruity and fresh with a salty note. Light body with high effervescence. Really interesting take on a gose but a bit too carbonated for my taste.

Bomber poured into a couple of snifters. The brew appears copper to pinkish colored with an off-white cap that froths up big and pillowy and holds well.

It smells minerally then lactic sour with natural scent of cherry skins.

The taste is tart like over-ripe cherry, greek yogurt and lemony lactic with saline almost brine notes.

This is light in body with modest carbonation. Overall pretty decent stuff.

As soon as I cracked the cap the pressure was evidenced by a loud hiss.
Even poured at a 45 degree angle the head raised in the glass faster than the beer itself did.
As I'd expect from the cherries, this poured a nice light red/pinkish color with a slightest hint of cherry and salt on the nose.
Also from the cherries but per the style, this gives you that nice lip smacking tartness you'd expect.
The aftertaste, while enjoyable, if I'm searching for a flavor, deep in the back of my palette, I'm getting Capt'n Crunch. Which is great because I love the cereal, I just hate the chewed up cheeks and gums you get after a bowl.
All in all an enjoyable beer and another win in the Modern Times assortment.

Large shared bottle poured pinkish amber with a very good head.

Light body with medium-high carbonation. Not at all watery.

Fruity flavor is mild with more subtle cherry notes than optimal. Very drinkable.
Only mildly tart due in part to some noticeable sweetness.

From 11/29/15 notes. Big thanks to nugganooch for sending me this one; thanks Dane! 22 oz. bottle into my Lost Abbey stemware. One thing to note is this was a slow-to-medium gusher.

Pours a somewhat clear ruby red-pink color with two fingers plus of off white head and moderate carbonation evident. Sour cherries and tart dark fruits, vinegar, oak, fruity malts, spice, and black cherry cola. Very acidic, high carbonation and medium body.

Overall quite good. The nose is awesome, and it is one of the sourest goses I've ever had. If you like very sour beers you'll love this one.

One of the better Cherry Gose I've had.
A- Transparent candy pink
S- Salt, green apples, cherry
T- Nice start of tartness, then tart cherry, and the salt gives it a nice finish that brings you back from the pucker
F- Thin and bubbly, but on style
O- Nice cherry gose

L: Pours an energetic and brilliant light cherry red producing a 2” foam collar with a light pink tint and a very fine bead. Recedes fairly quick. S: Medium to medium high levels of cherry and cinnamon with the cinnamon growing as the beer warms. No hop aromas and very light malt. T: With a very light malt beginning the beer quickly turns cherry lemony tart as it fills the mouth with some metallic salt in the finish – traces of iron. Malt flavor is low, hop bitterness is barely discernible if at all but the tartness does the job. Dry to semi-dry. F: Tart and crisp, light and refreshing with a very soft, mouth filling mousy palate. Very highly carbonated. O: An interesting, refreshing, well made beer.

Type: 22-oz. bottle
Glass: Trappist Westvleteren XII glass
From: Barons Market in Alpine, Calif.
Price: $7.99
Purchased: Sept. 10, 2015
Consumed: Sept. 24, 2015
Misc.: N/A

Poured a pinkish, orange, clear color with less than a finger of greyish frothy head that dissipated rather quickly. Lots of bubbles coming up from the bottom, setting on the top. Below average wet foamy lacing on the sides of the glass. Below average retention. (Sight - 3.75)

Smelled a mix of sour cherry and earthy, grassy malts, almost like a sour lager. Not what I was expecting. Also corn, cereal, wheat, caramel and more cherry juice. (Smell - 3.50)

Taste was a lot better than the nose with more cherries and less cheap macro lager. First thought was cherry pie. Also cinnamon spice, graham cracker crust, sour cherries, artificial cherry, grass, cherry tooth polish and sour cherry candy. (Taste - 3.75)

Light body. Oily texture. Lively carbonation. Sour, acidic finish. (Feel - 3.75)

I was all over the place with this one. I don’t know whether I properly rated it, overrated it or underrated it. If I had it again, all these ratings could change. But overall, good for the style. (Overall - 3.75)

A: 4.5 Pours a very pretty, reddish pink with a small light pink head. Not much in the way of retention or lacing.

S: 4 Pretty mild, mostly consisting of lemon, cherries, a bit of funk, toasted wheat, and honey.

T: 4.25 Taste is very similar to the nose, but turned up a bit. Juicy, meaty cherries start with a slight medicinal flavor. Lemony tartness follows with a slightly sweet, wheaty finish.

M: 4.25 The body is nice, if a little slick feeling and carbonation could be a little higher.

O: 4.25 I was expecting this to be a weird mix of salt, tart, and fruit, but this beer is actually very balanced and tasty. Good fruit delivery, nice tartness, low on salinity, and very refreshing.

Really surprised at how mild this was -- this is a sour for the unwashed. In some ways, I kinda appreciate its approachability, and the tamped down sourness does let the natural flavor of the cherries peak through at times, as though you can almost taste their fleshy insides. Even still, those hints of cherry fade a little too quickly into a rather basic lightly tart, lightly wheaty malt base. Nose didn't give me much cherry at all, just a touch of funk, a bit sweaty actually. I don't know. It's drinkable to be sure. It shouldn't scare anyone away. But, as far as fruited goses go, I don't think it really pops like you want.

Very good sour. Not real mouth puckering which is how I like my sours. The description is also right on point as the cherry taste comes through loud and clear. Very crisp as well. Reminds me a lot of some of the New Glarus fruit beers

22 oz bottle poured into snifter

A: good clarity very light head that is gone in a flash red hue

S: light cherry smell with a little bit of that cough syrup smell smells salty with slight notes of vinegar

T: wow very cherry was not expecting the high level of cherry taste versus a touch muted on the nose nice slightly salty with a touch of tartness very refreshing

M: light clean crisp easy drinking with just a medium to lighter carbonation

O: This is delightful packs a huge cherry punch but so crisp and easy to drink makes you want to keep drinking more and more immediately after your last sip

Pours a light red, almost like a rosé. Taste is sour cherry without being too tart. Very refreshing, as are most gose, especially on a hot day like today.

A: Sour cherries are immediately noticeable, followed by some light grain, lacto and salt.

A: Orange with rose highlights, quite clear with a thin amount of head retention.

T: Sour cherries upfront, slightly salty, and moderately sour with some grain.

M: Light bodied, with moderate carbonation. Slightly mouth-watering from the salt; good attenuation – the beer was quite refreshing.

O: Goses are quite refreshing on hot days and this one is pretty thirst quenching. The sour cherries do well to highlight the gose’s already funky character. I am looking forward to trying this one on draft.

It's good, not great and a very particular fruity gose that gets boring after 2/3 a glass. I think as a small serving I liked it very much. As a whole bottle, less so.

Pours light-red, almost pink, with head that settles to about a 1mm white ring around the glass. Smell is rose wine, cherry and a little bit of medicinal cough syrup, but it's barely there. Taste is sour cherry and rose with a nice slightly bready finish and mouthfeel. Overall, a top of the line Gose.

Bomber into a tulip at fridge temp. Opens without even a hiss.

Look: almost like a rosé, but with more orange/light brown. Essentially no head at first, but a more vigorous pour reveals a very light pink 1" head that sticks around for a minute or so.

Smell: cherry pie, from the bready crust to the cinnamon to the cherries. Big on the cherries.

Taste: sweet and tart cherry, hint of pie crust; very clean.

Feel: light-to-medium. Eminently crushable.

Overall: I don't think I'm rating to style, because I don't have a great feel for gose (I've only had a few others, including Westbrook's). But, this is just a tasty enjoyable beverage, and I feel I have to rate it as such.

This was my first Gose, so I have nothing to compare it against, but this was a very enjoyable beer. It had a nice sweetness which was pleasantly balanced by the tartness/saltiness. Easy to crush and extremely refreshing on a warm day.

Pours a hazy light red with a foamy reddish-tan head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Thin streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is slightly sour with grain, cherry juice, salt, and earth aromas. Taste is much the same with sour cherry, cherry juice, salt, and earth flavors on the finish. There is a very mild amount of acidity on the palate with each sip. This beer has a level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that has a nice balance between the sour cherry and salt qualities all around.

Serving type: bottle.

Smells of coriander, subtle yogurt funk, wet hay, brine, and cherry pie, Taste is of cherry preserves up front, flaky crust, subtle cinnamon, subtle yogurt sourness and just a hint of salt, slight bitterness lingers. Thin yet slightly jammy mouthfeel. A great beer, I really like the cherry pie flavors I'm picking up.
