L: not pitch black and not a hick pour
S: big smooth barrel jumps out of the glass. Rich chocolate and toasted coconut as it warms.
T: fudgy, big smooth barrel with coconut nicely mixed and and long in the finish. The coconut is more pronounced as it warms.
F: medium thickness and coating. A nice touch of heat from a smooth barrel.

3rd edition (2017)
L: Jet black little to no head and disappears quickly.
S: Heavy Coconut! First time of it coming through in a MT beer for me. Followed up by intense chocolate. Some barrel characters (wood, vanilla) but its hard to punch through the coco and chocolate.
T: Again with coconuts and chocolate. Dark Mounds bar like, I really let this warmed up BEFORE i poured and it made quite a difference. Followed with a great backbone from the base beer with some bitter chocolate notes. Theres the little hint of heat from the bourbon barrel which is welcomed due to the intense sweetness. Some more subdued barrel character. I can't stress enough the need to let it hit temp.
F:Thick, low carb. not really syrupy which i would have worried about.
O:Wow beer for me. I think the Mexican hot chocolate is a tad better because this one almost to on the nose with the adjuncts, but as it types out I don't have any clue why i would complain about that issue.

This really very similar to the bourbon barrel aged version, except there's a bit more chocolate in the nose, and the beer comes across as sweeter (with chocolate and coconut flavors), but with less bourbon flavor. I tried this beer side by side with he bourbon, coffee and vanilla version, and the only version that really stood out as pretty different was the coffee version (which was served on nitro). All 4 versions were quite good, with my favorite the vanilla version. As with the bourbon version, this one has a very full mouthfeel, with the alcohol very well integrated into the flavor profile (no sense of heat or bite from the alcohol). Delicious stuff.

On tap at the source. Opaque dark brown with a modest tan head. Strong coconut and bourbon on the nose. This is a huge beer but it carries its weight. Great mix of coconut, whiskey, vanilla, chocolate, and roasted malt. Full bodied but easy drinking for a 13% ABV beer. The flavors played well together and I thoroughly enjoyed this.

From a 22 oz bottle - definitely not infected. The coconut and chocolate flavors are not overpowering, but definitely present. Substantial barrel flavor. This is a very tasty BA adjunct stout and very drinkable at 13.7%.

22 oz bottle
2016

It's hard for me to rate this low considering that MT has been very responsive to the contaminated bottles (unlike GI) however not being unbiased would do a disservice to others.

Deep brown to black with a nice head that settles to a bit of nothing. Nice lacing on a swirl.

Nose is pepper and bourbon with some cocoa.

Taste is straight sour, some oak, and bourbon.

Mouthful is heavy, smooth, and coating. Carbonation is low. Finish is a mix of sour and dry.

Very disappointing especially considering how impressive their other offerings. This appears to be isolated to bottles so proceed with caution.

i dont think my bottle was infected...had a slightly tart bite to it but by no means was it rancid or undrinkable. a very disappointing beer though.
l: thin and flat, dark brown, little head, no lacing, minor retention
s: some bourbon, a little heat, not much else
t: in line w nose, slight tartness
m: way too thin, the cola comparisons are accurate
o: big time bummer

Was excited to finally acquire a Monsters Park only to end up pouring the vast majority of it down the drain. Undoubtedly infected as it tasted like a sour sack of trash.

Infected. What a let down. I traded for this, can't recall how much for, but do recall it wasn't cheap.

Unbelievable. Not sure I will trade for a MT beer again.

Beer was infected. For a $30 dollar bottle price it was disappointing. I had tasted this at their release event and it was delicious but obviously bottling and aging tells another story.

Infected. Sour

Edit: Contacted Modern Times and they sent me a gift card for the value of the beer the next day. They said they've had problems with this beer recently

Will try my best to stretch this review over the required character limit so people can see. This beer was infected. I've been "lucky" enough to have tried a few of infected beers, and this one was very high up there on the "undrinkable" scale. Very sour and bitter, with no redemption from the adjuncts to cover it up. Caveat emptor.

Tried this after drinking some top class beer so it had a lot to live up to. No major flaws. Nice bourbon and big chocolate flavor. Not much coconut. It's medium to thin mouth feel and brown in color. Good, but doesn't justify the high price tag.

i know they do an absolute ton of variants on this one, but this is hands down the best one i have had. i am a sucker for coconut, and while this could probably be ramped up even one more level with a little coffee, the cocoa provides a similar earthy roasty bitterness the base beer really needs. i have always found monsters park a little sweet, and while the coconut doesnt amplify that much, its still real sweet, but the bitter from the chocolate is awesome here, much needed i think, and almost scales the beer back enough for the somewhat subtle coconut to come through. not fake, not overly intense, no sun tan lotion, just real authentic fresh toasted coconut, really neat middle layer here before the heavy malt roast and booze and sweetness take over. i always forget this is as strong as it is, so smooth and although its warm, it never really burns, and its so good i just keep on drinking it without thinking too much about the strength until im loopy. so smooth and chocolatey. crazy to read other reviews where folks arent getting the extra flavors, maybe there is some batch variance, but mine was on point. these guys are killing it, and this series is approaching epic now after this one! the best of the lot so far for me.

*Pre-infection. A definite infection set in. Really unfortunate as, fresh, this was a spectacular beer. Thick, coconut / barrel / chocolate al in balance, no heat, excellent drinkability.

So I had heard this beer was possibly infected....nose was a little off but the beer was solid as hell! Nice chocolate and boozy barrel but only slight coconut...still very solid

There are a lot of coconut stouts out there now, and while this might not be on the same level as Prop 13 or Decoherence, it is still a very tasty attempt from Modern Times. I look forward to trying a few of the other Monster's Park variants!

This beer didn't taste like expected. Cocoa and coconut were absent. Everything blended into one flavor. Sort of like flat Cola. Barrel aging is noticeable in taste which saves the beer a little. Decent, but failed expectations.

Bottle from 2016 Release. Aroma showed a lot of promise but the taste just did not back it up. Good bourbon barrel presence and nice chocolate flavor but there was almost no coconut in the taste. A little thin compared to other top tier BA stouts.

2016 release, second batch (13.7%). Pours dark brown from the bottle with an unusually cola-like fizz. Smells heavenly, but not quite as aromatic as the corresponding first batch or the rum-aged version, also with coconut and cacao nibs. The flavors are huge, like infusing a moist brownie with shredded coconut. If you like fudge, coconut, and big stouts, you cannot go wrong with this one. It does not have the thick, syrupy viscosity and tongue-coating mouthfeel of other big BBA stouts in its category, but the fullness of flavor is unimpeachable. Holds its own against all contenders.

Poured a dark black with light aromas of coconut and chocolate that built as the beer warmed. On the palate the mouth feel was above average with the flavors, like the aroma, building as the beer warmed. Eventually became liquid Mounds candy bars

I fell down the first time I sipped this.

Delicious caramel brownie finishing with just the right amount of toasted coconut to leave you wanting more.

Thick, well-balanced syrup.

A slightly better version of Bourbon County. The single best beer I've had to date... and I've dated my fare share of beers.

Tan head. Black color.

Reminds me a lot of 3 hour tour from town hall. Liquid mounds bar. Lots of coconut and cocao/chocolate. Big bourbon and vanilla dose.

Medium to full bodied. Rich.

Really nice beer. Very enjoyable.

Had on draft at Library Alehouse, then a couple weeks later out of a bottle when it hit distro. I thought the coconut was way too heavy-handed (tasted like extract, distracted from the barrel character on the nose) and muted the base, which is rather delicious on its own. Oh well.
