This beer is a 1-2 punch of Citra and Amarillo, with notes of mango, tangerine, and poha berry wrapping up in a bone dry finish that’s like swimming naked in a pool of fruit juice and then drying off with a cashmere towel.

Strong citra hop smell on this, one of the best things about it that I appreciate. Taste follows with the bitterness of the hops hiding the high abv, but sweetened by the mango flavor of the hops. Fresh bottle, only two weeks out from bottling, poured into a nice goblet. Did I mention mango? Yeah, that is the aftertaste that holds on and doesn't dry the palate like I prefer my IPA's. Not really marking it down for that because it is 8.5%abv and you gotta expect some kind of sweetness to stick around. Great head at pouring, lacing all the way down the glass to the last sip. All things considered, a decent strong IPA with the powerful hit of fruitiness common to citra hops.

I think they did a fine job staying true to the regular Fortunate Islands recipe in this scaled up version. Same turbid looking honey gold body with a paper white foam edge. Fruity Citra hops, orange, grapefruit, green berry, apricot, and that wheaty malt base. Alcohol is a bit more pronounced but with a nice semi-full creamy texture this is very crushable.

I dont want to rate this, but i do at the same time. This beer was at Total Wine north of LV with a TW sticker that said 2212017 on it. Store employee told me thats the date it was "shelved" on. Interestingly I looked at many bottles that didnt have this kind of tag on them, so I figured this was okay. This bottle is old to the point that I can taste oxidation. That said, I've been in the craft beer and homebrewing game long enough to be able to tell this beer was at the very least decent in its day. This it why im still giving it an above average rating. That said, date your damn bottles people! Make it obvious and durable! Otherwise im.not going to give you the benefit of the doubt and I'll slam any beer I want to that's out of date, regardless of whether or not it's "good fresh", because most people can't get it fresh anyway.

Smells like a Bear Republic beer but kinda tastes like a malty mess.

L - Pours slightly hazy amber orange with a fluffy white one finger head
S - I get tangerine, orange, pine, and some malt sweetness
T - lots of juicy orange up front, cracker malt in the middle, and followed up by some bitter pine. There is a bit of a soapy aftertaste
F - nice heavy mouth feel. I find it a little astringent
O - Just feels like it's so close to being world class. Not sure what it's missing.

Great fruity Dipa. Very crisp and light. Reminds me more of a east coast ipa. But glad that Modern Times is producing this in CA. Not much to complain about on this one. Nice head and great citrus aroma. Fruity hop presence with a clean crisp finish. I need to get more.
