Notes:
It’s so great that you like coffee. I just love that about you. Speaking of which, you’re holding an oatmeal coffee stout positively redolent with coffee aroma and flavor. It kind of tastes like a chocolate-covered espresso bean, only drier and more like beer. Nifty fact: we’re one of the only breweries in the world to roast our own coffee, which allows us to be extremely persnickety about which beans we buy and how we roast them. Taste the OCD!

The nitro adds a nice smoothness to the beer but seems to be lacking some of the flavor and aroma of the original version. The mouthfeel is better but i prefer the taste of the original

Picked up a 16 oz can from the Craft Beer Hop Stop 1-19-17 for $2.49. Canned on 12-30-16 and stored in the beer fridge since purchase.
Beer poured black with an okay tan head that has a little hang time.
Nose is light notes of coffee and sweet malts.
Taste is coffee and chocolate subtly played into a mild roasted malt base with a touch of coconut. It is a bit on the sweet side but the hopping rate is adequate to balance things out.
Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and comes across as thin. Not getting the nitro part of this brew.
Overall a lovely tasting beer that is lacking the nose and body to be truly considered very good beer. I recall being disappointed in the body of the regular Black House i had at Stone Liberty Station several years back. This is one that is probably better on tap.

CAN
Bishops collar; cold coffee + vague toasted coconut; fig + ash, big hit of stale drip coffee, vaguely fruity coffee berries, specks of cocoa powder + HB litre, and imaginings of a Bounty bar; nitro creamy.
4 4 4 4.25 4.25
On the one hand, the coconut never really turns up: saving us from the disaster that is so many other oily, over-toasted, flat coconut beers. On the other hand, the coconut never really turns up: and neither does the cocoa beans, leaving this to be an under-flavored, slightly acidic coffee beer that’s saved simply by nitro creaminess. It’s floating on down, and there’s some execution here - I feel like this is the beer they wanted to make. But missed opportunity to pack in more depth + expansiveness that’s passed by in favour of drinkability.
Good where it could’ve been great.

A - dark brown black beer with a mocha head that dissapears quickly
S - big coffee, roasty malts, chocolate, espresso. Very coffee forward.
T - big coffee, roasty malts, vanilla, cream, espresso, the creaminess is cloying
M - medium mouthfeel, flat, alcohol covered, aftertaste is coffee and roasty malts
O - its nothing special. Honestly the cans more impressive than the beer. I've got another can that i'll drink but otherwise not buying it again. Black Hour orig > Black House nitro.

On tap.
Dark brown with solid head retention.
The nose is coffee, chocolate, raisin, and a light metallic note.
The taste is similar. Light, easy drinking, good with food. A restrained coffee experience
The mouthfeel is typical low ABV nitro.
Overall, solid.

Reminds me mostly of an espresso...
...of which I do enjoy...I haven't seen such blackness in liquid form in a very long time, but there it was, blacker than the inside of a cow. The nitro wasn't as potent I would have liked, but it still poured that classic creamy head everyone would expect, though it was short lived - surprisingly so. The scent was coffee, and strong at that, and overpowering. So much so, I really couldn't pull out any of the other aromas they claimed on their can. Mouthfeel was only slightly creamy with a mostly watery effect. I did enjoy the espresso flavoring and was able to pull out some chocolaty notes and even some cinnamon as well. A solid enough brew, one I would suggest to anyone with a soft spot to espressos in their heart.

August 10th, 2015 - I'm still waiting for nitro to have its time in the trendy spotlight, but until then I'll have to get by with the occasional nitro release around the breweries in my area. Thankfully, there are some very good ones, like the Nitro version of Modern Times' Black House. It looks even prettier than a Guinness, with a pale, ghostly head cleanly divided from the beer. The aroma has a low and plain coffee profile, with a slight cream component, and salted snacking almonds. And as befits a nitro beer, it has a very, very smooth light palate that works very well with the flavor. And that is a soft, velvety mixture of chocolate milk and hazelnut, which echoes well into the aftertaste. This is, I think, what an upgraded Guinness would taste like.

Had on tap at Flavordome. As hoped...nitro added some extra cascade and head retention. Mouth feel was velvet thanks to Oatmeal and NO2. Very easy and enjoyable sipper. Retains delicious Black House roastiness and coffee/molasses hints. Decadent.

Pint can - Canned on 12/16/2018:
Pours black with a tan head. Lacing sticks.
The smell is of deep-roasted coffee, caramel, chocolate, hint of coconut oil.
The taste is of espresso beans, chocolate. I like that the cocoa comes across as chocolate rather than cocoa powder. Coconut oil is subtle but comes through in a pleasant way in the aftertaste. Sweet caramel with balancing roast in the finish.
Smooth.
A unique brew. Good coffee character with a hint of coconut. Interesting and Enjoyable!

On tap at the brewery.
Dark brown brew, coffee-tan frothy head that never recedes and leaves a solid layer of lacing. Sweetened coffee aromas, biscuity like a biscotti left to dissolve in a cappucino. Coffee-forward flavors, but just enough. Distinct toffee and carob notes balance, nothing bitter. Chewy, bready complexion ties the beer together. Super tasty, as their tag line proclaims.
