Yet another review of the beers they brought to their quasi tap takeover at BeerNV around the beginning of June 2018. Pours black, relatively thick and with a 1/3" brown head. They all look like powerful heavily roasted stouts. This one didn't pop vanilla in the nose, was just basically the same aroma as the regulare non adjunct barrel version.

Here the taste is noticeably sweeter. Yes, it makes for an even smoother mouth feel. Did I not mention the strong amount of bourbon influence yet? Its in all of them. But its not hot for its abv. The vanilla amount is big. Gives this version more of a caramel persuasion to it. Its really good stuff, you can substitute it for whatever BA vanilla stout you chase, BCS, Eclipse, whatever. But even then, you still would be better off with Avery's vanilla bean stout at half the price.

Tasted from can. Pours black with little to no head. Aroma is sweet bourbon with a hint of vanilla. Some cocoa. Flavor has way more pronounced vanilla than nose. Caramel, toffee, cocoa, molasses. Very well done BA stout.

Sample at Mikkeller Beer Celebration Copenhagen 2018, Green Session. Aroma is sweet and roasty with dark chocolate, bourbon and toffee. Taste is sweet and bourbony with dark chocolate flavor. Complex but balanced, just a bit astringent.

On tap.
Look: Near black in color, with slight tan head. No lacing.
Smell: Roasted malts, chocolate, bourbon and some coffee with vanilla hints. Not as pronounced on the vanilla as I would have liked, but it is still present.
Taste: Follows the nose. Roasty malt/chocolate flavor complex up front, with some coffee attributes. Vanilla present on the finish, but I do wish it was more abundant. The bourbon is spot-on, and being perfectly represented throughout entirety of flavor.
Feel: Medium in weight but light/thin in body. This is the worst aspect of the beer, I wish it had a little more heft. That said, it isn't a deal breaker and still very ejoyable. Smooth and enjoyable, leaving a slick, sticky palate.
Overall: Glad I went ahead and tried this. I would totally try again. I am grateful to have tried. Cheers!

Appearance - Pours black with nice tan head that dissipates pretty quickly. No lacing.

Aroma - Huge barrel presence, tons of vanilla, bourbon, chocolate, marshmallow big decadent sweet aroma.

Taste - tastes like a bourbon soaked marshmallow, tons of barrel, oak, chocolate, fudge, bourbon lots of bourbon flavor none of the overbearing alcohol burn.

Feel - Full bodied creamy silky smooth little heat from the bourbon but so easy drinking.

Overall - One o f the best BBA stouts I have had, excellent balance smooth and dessert like stout.

Appearance: Arrives espresso colored with a one finger tan head; streaky lacing

Smell: Chocolate, marshmallow and Bourbon

Taste: Marshmallow coated in chocolate syrup with the Bourbon building through the middle; nicely balanced into the finish, with the vanilla tones lingering

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with moderate carbonation; some warmth in the gullet

Overall: Nice balance and, for once, I didn’t mind the prominence of the vanilla adjunct

L: pours black with a very small brown head
S: vanilla, fudge and sweet bourbon.
T: the vanilla and fudgy chocolate mix is amazing. I really like the big barrel presence in this one too.
F: a bit thin for a Ba stout, but it is smooth and easy drinking. Tre flavors coat my mouth and linger on. Very nice
O: this is a great Ba vanilla stout.

650ml bottle. Served in a snifter glass. Pours a dark black body, oily with a bit of leg, one finger offwhite head, good retention and no lacing. Smell is rich dark chocolate, cocoa, sugarcane, a bit of earth, light milk chocolate and a touch of raw vanilla bean and dark fruit. Flavour follows; raw vanilla bean, sugarcane, cocoa powder, baker's chocolate, bits of dark fruit, a bit of milk chocolate. The vanilla is more of the raw character rather than a sweet marshmallow character. Mouthfeel is full bodied, thick and oily, good carbonation, smooth and slightly slick vanilla bean on the finish. Honestly, not all that unlike GI Vanilla Rye, although the vanilla bean has more of a raw character.

Tried side by side with the bourbon, coffee and cocoa nibs with coconut version, this along with the cocoa version were the two sweetest in the bunch. The vanilla is pretty prominent in this beer, and it seemed to drown out most of the bourbon flavor. Still got plenty of dark chocolate and light coffee otherwise. Mouthfeel was very full, as it was with all the versions I sampled, and alcohol was again very well integrated into the flavor profile in this sweet impy stout. Another tasty beer from Modern Times.

On tap at the West Coast Barrel Aged Beerfest at The Bistro in Hayward, CA. Smell and taste are both of straight marshmallow. Flavors blend together nicely, and mouthfeel is nearly perfect. Easily the bast BA vanilla stout I've ever had - and also one of the best overall beers I've ever had. I had to go back for 3 tastings of this!

On draught during one of the Fortnight of the Monsters events. Much like the Coconut variant, I thought this was way too adjunct heavy. Yeah it smelled incredibly but it was so overpowering you got none of the barrel character on the nose or any of the base on the palate. If you like your adjuncts with beer in them, this is for you.
