Had this at Sour Sunday at Triple Rock brewery on February 11, 2018. Have not seen this beer amongst the dozen or so Modem Tones beers at Total Wine. I would say at the outset, I tend to rate MT beers lower than average across the board in all styles.

This one pours with one of those pink/purple/light red hues to it. Boysenberries it seems. Slight 1/5" pink head. Aroma it berryish without getting into the foot aroma that can accompany berries it seems.

Taste drops way more oak than the aroma. The red wine barrel keeps contributing in the mouth feel as well. The berry character is well done without being sugary or too influential. Easy drinking, light bodied, lower acidity, firmly placing itself as a saison as opposed to a pumped up wild ale. Seems about a 5 or 6 on the 10 pt sour scale. This is pretty easy to drink, its enjoyable and as good as anything I've ever had from Modern Times I would say.

750ml Bottle poured into fluted snifter.

Pours ruby purple, transparent, thin whisp of head lingers as a few small floating islands and minute collar ringing the glass.

Aroma of tart boysenberries, sweet tart candy, light oak barrel.

Flavor is tart up front, hint of sweetness and fresh berries followed with rich oak and sweet red wine. Wine flavor comes through more as it warms, rich tannin.

Effervescence makes it feel pretty light, but not without sufficient body.

Crisp and refreshing. Moderate sweetness and barrel notes keeps the tartness under control making this a very enjoyable brew.

Impressive dark pink/purple color with nice carbonation. The body is well made. Light and effervescent. The flavor is all berry. So much jammy blackberry flavor, which I'm sure is similar to the boysenberries used.

Red Wine Barrel Aged Sour with Boysenberries. At the Modern Times Taproom on Upas. Poured as a half pour only. Beautiful dark pink color to it, light fruitiness to it, slightly sour, delicious. Perfect for the San Diego weather.
