Traded for this a while ago, as the date on the bottom of the can read 4/16/17 with "CAN#10390" written below that. This was the first can that I've had from Modern Times and it's hard to believe that a brewery out of California nailed this style and had me second-guessing where it came from!

Nice pour to this as this was dark, orange, and quite hazy. Plenty of foam topped this off as the bubbles took quite a while to settle down. One thick soapy ring of lacing was left near the top of my pint glass with a few less distinguishable rings being discernible below that. Citrus rind, stone fruit juice, and tropical fruits filled the nose as the taste was just as dank, slick, and engrossing. Wonderfully smooth and chock full of Citra and Mosaic, this was just as good as counterparts from this neck of the woods as it held up well over all the time. Hints of grass and orange sherbet came in before this was all said and done as the aftertaste was a mix between a deep forest and swamp water...

The right amount of booze was in this as there was just a bit of heft but not way to detect it on the palate. While I haven't had much from Modern Times here or in line at Other Half, all of their offerings were excellent although none was quite like this. Should they ever open up a second brewery in these parts, they'd be well-off bringing this back to compete with the big guys in New England!

Poured from a 16oz can into a tulip glass (canned 4/17 and consumed 5/21). Appearance is a bright and hazy dark orange with two finger thick head (pretty good retention). Smell is heavy orange juice and pine/pineapple with some sweetnesss from what I assume is honey malt (floral). Taste follows the nose but has a really nice bitterness that brings it all together. Sweetness is great but not overpowering. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and fairly soft with nice carbonation throughout and a nice crisp finish.

Overall, I think this is the best NE style IPA that Modern Times has made. This beer has some bitterness and pine that adds nice West Coast elements yet has the juice and mouthfeel that brings it all together. Looking forward to more juice from Modern Times.

A NE-style IPA from a phenomenal West Coast brewery - the beer nerd world has been turned upside down by "milkshake" beers.

I love Modern Times, so when I saw they had a NE-style IPA, I had to try it. It looks to style (like a milkshake), but is a smidge darker than the "typical" NE-style IPA.

The aromas are pure hops - loads of citrus and tropical aromas. The taste is in line with the aromas, with maybe a bit more tropical flavors, and the feels is a little sharper than the typical NE-style IPA, which I appreciated.

I don't ever want Modern Times to forget who they are and what they do, but they did a nice job with this, IMHO.

Got a full pour at the Fermentorium 48 hours before the Cans go on sale and I WILL
definitely be ordering some!

I'm rating it so high because it drinks incredibly creamy, has a clean non-dank hoppyness, there's a great toasted grain flavor too (like when you leave the toast a little too long in the toaster but it smells so good) absolutely ZERO green/vegetal hop flavor, dry finish, makes you wanna drink more, what else do you want?

From can to pint glass

Hazy, almost muddy copper-orange appearance. Bouquet is bold and sharp, with notes of pineapple-orange juice, edged by grassy earth. Flavors follow, with tropical-citrus notes spearheading the profile. Booze is masked while a full-bodied complexion ushers in a long, lingering finish.

By far the juiciest beer MT has brewed. This is far too easy to throw back, yum.
