Notes: The result of our ongoing international quest for the choicest of hops, this wondrous IPA sports a South African hop bill bursting with lush tropical radness and a rich, juicy mouthfeel that stimulates the palate and satisfies the soul. It's a globe-spanning smackdown of flavors, and we're pretty psyched to put some in your grill-piece.

Poured from a 22oz. 1/30/17 dated bottle into a tulip glass.

It is a foggy, orange gold color. Substantial amount of frothy cream colored head that leaves some sticky lacing.

Smells like tropical fruits and a musty wine. Some noticeable pine and honey like sweetness.

Fairly unique flavor profile. I don't know that I have come across anything like it so far. It is sweeter up front with passion fruit, some tangerine, and honeycomb, then I get more of a mustyness like green grapes/white wine, and a ripe melon rind. It closes out with a significant amount of pine and bitterness. A very raw, earthy aftertaste.

It is pretty heavy bodied. I would guess the ABV much higher based on the amount of heft. It is a bit drying, but not bad. Very active, prickly/tingling carbonation. Good amount of resin.

Overall this is a very flavorful, and excellent IPA.

I'm a big Modern Times fan, so I was really excited to try this. The pour reveals the classic (to me) West Coast IPA - brilliant dark gold, the slightest bit of hop haze, a couple of fingers of slightly off-white head.

The nose is all exotic hops - passion fruit, citrus, very "spritz." The taste is very tropical - loads of citrus, passion fruit, pineapple, papaya. A veritable fruity menagerie - and using oats and honey in the malt bill makes this significantly better. Just a pleasure to drink.

A modern day classic west coast IPA! Pours a clear and clean orange with a dense and foamy barely off white head. The aroma is insane! So much fruity melon, citrus and tropical notes blend harmoniously. Flavor matches and is familiar, yet unique with bursts of all different kinds of fruit juiciness, and a hint of lime in the finish. Feel is wonderfully smooth, bitter but not over the top, and finishes dry. Overall, this is an exceptionally good IPA from one of the masters. My second bottle of this, and both went down way too easily. Cheers!

A clear orange beer with an off white head that smells pineapple, orange, pine with a whiff of papaya. The taste is very tropical with lots of citrus, pineapple and pine. I swear I taste coconut in there too which goes great with the pineapple. I'm sure it isn't in there but that's what I taste. Really great beer.

Bottled 1/30/16, poured 2/8/17.

Pours a light amber/orange, translucent, with two fingers of head with good retention

I get lots of summer fruit in the nose...peaches, sweet orange.

Full, lush taste, that has a smooth and consistent flavor profile from sip to swallow with a mild sweetness that lingers. Not bitter at all, but still full flavored with a malt backbone that is masterfully balanced.

If a Mai-Tai was a beer, this would be it. Somewhat unique flavor profile, excellent balance, very drinkable. This is a classic San Diego IPA.

Bomber into a Duvel tulip at fridge temp.

Look: almost coppery yellow with very minimal head, not much carb activity.

Smell: peaches, acetone, cedar.

Taste: wow, this is a surprisingly aggressive beer for MT. Taste starts with a huge wallop of bitterness, followed by lime, papaya, wood, and then a clean finish with just some lingering astringent bitterness.

Feel: I can only describe the feel as "luscious". Not thick, really... the closest analogy I can think of is to styrofoam, which makes it sound awful, but it's the opposite of awful.

Overall: this actually isn't a beer I'll probably seek out again, because the taste is pretty challenging, but I'm nonetheless impressed by it. When MT seeks out wild hop varieties, we all win.

Not a bad IPA here from MT, definitely tropical note forward, both in the nose and on the palate, though there's also a touch of something sharper in there, almost woody, which is actually kinda nice and gives a bit of balance the fruit fest. Light copper color, thin head, decent retention, slightst bit hazy (which seems common with all their hoppy beers now). Body is fairly standard, fairly buzzy carb, maybe a touch fuller than your run of the mill West Coast IPA, though definitely not in the soft category, a la NEIPAs. Overall, it's a tasty, fruity IPA, perhaps a touch more approachable than its bitter brethren.

On tap at Rocket Dog Brats & Brews

A: Pours golden amber with a frothy off white head that settles to a light layer and leaves some nice lacing.

S: Tropical fruit and zesty citrus run the show with a little crackery malt and caramel sweetness rounding out the cast.

T: Bright zesty citrus, orange, grapefruit, lemon, and lime, solid hit of tropical fruit, pineapple, mango, and passion fruit, faintly spicy/grassy, crackery malt, and a little light caramel sweetness.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation, quite smooth.

O: I've been wanting to try something with South African hops and this certainly fits the bill. Really nice IPA. Modern Times nails it again.

A little hazy medium gold with a sudsy off-white long lasting head that left dots and streaks of lacing.
Slightly dank, grassy stone fruit notes on the nose and palate.
Medium carbonation. Smooth mouthfeel from the oats. Moderate bitterness. A little funky, touch of honey finish.
Not as much bittersweetness and bold mouthfeel that I would like for this style, but very tasty nonetheless. I love this brewer's work with different hop combinations. Very much appreciated.

L: golden west coast ipa. White big head that lasts forever and laces.

S: subtle citrus and fruits.

T: THIS IS WEST COAST IPA! MT kills this with crisp juices and a little malt on the back end. Slight bitter but not mouth puckering.

F: smooth and finishes clean.

O: way too easy to drink. MT killed this beer. Probably one of the top west coast ipas I can think of imho.
