The result of our ongoing international quest for the choicest of hops, this wondrous IPA sports a South African hop bill bursting with lush tropical radness and a rich, juicy mouthfeel that stimulates the palate and satisfies the soul. It's a globe-spanning smackdown of flavors, and we're pretty psyched to put some in your grill-piece.

Bottle dated 01/30/17 into a tulip glass. Pours orange copper with 2+ fingers of medium density white head that had good retention and left ringed and spotted lacing. Nose is crazy juicy, lots of tropical fruit with citrus undertones and perhaps a hint of pine resin, no malt character detected. Very enjoyable aroma, one of the best I've had recently. Taste doesn't quite have the same dynamic character as the nose, but follows the nose well. Finishes with subtle astringency and ever so slight lingering bitterness. Mouthfeel is lighter bodied and medium carbonation. Love the beer, but would prefer it in 4pks of 16oz cans.

Notes taken from 02/08/17
I think MT nailed it with this Triton Project. Lush and Tropical indeed. The look is a muddled dark amber body with a stubborn creamy tan head. Lots of thick chunky lacing noted. Aroma is a tropical fruit cup with tangerine, danky herbs and light sugary malt sweetness. Lots of guava, papaya spice notes with some green melon. The flavor is fruity and dank as well, ripe with tropical fruits and spice. Mango, guava/papaya, green berries, herbal notes, pine, grapefruit. A bit of malt cracker flavor, as well as some noticeable warming alcohol. A really great hop experience overall, would love to see this one come back in cans.

Slightly cloudy. Light copper color with a creamy head, solid retention and lacing. Aroma is tropical fruit, tangerine, dank herbs and caramel malt. The flavor is musky and dank, ripe fruit and spice. Mango, berries, herbal notes, pine, grapefruit. Quite complex. A bit of grainy flavor, as well as some alcohol vapor. A resinous and biting finish, and this is smoothed out with a solid malt back. I really enjoyed this one.

Not a bad IPA here from MT, definitely tropical note forward, both in the nose and on the palate, though there's also a touch of something sharper in there, almost woody, which is actually kinda nice and gives a bit of balance the fruit fest. Light copper color, thin head, decent retention, slightst bit hazy (which seems common with all their hoppy beers now). Body is fairly standard, fairly buzzy carb, maybe a touch fuller than your run of the mill West Coast IPA, though definitely not in the soft category, a la NEIPAs. Overall, it's a tasty, fruity IPA, perhaps a touch more approachable than its bitter brethren.

Type: 22-oz. bottle
Glass: Clear 14.75-oz. porter/stout tulip
From: Trader Joe’s in La Mesa (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $6.99
Purchased: Feb. 17, 2017
Consumed: Feb. 17, 2017
Reviewed as: American IPA
Misc.: Bottled on Jan. 30, 2017 (although the stamp read Jan. 30, 2016 - they admitted the mistake)
Was excited for the latest seasonal from Modern Times. Somewhat surprised this was the first time I had seen it in stores. Didn’t know much about it until I read the back right before this review - lush, tropical IPA with a bunch of Southern Hemisphere and experimental hops. Should be interesting.
Poured a straw-gold, yellow clear color with two fingers of frothy off-white head. Serene setting underneath. Excellent layered spiderweb lacing. Excellent retention. (Sight - 4.25)
Smelled pretty damn good, getting passion fruit, tropical fruit punch, floral, hints of Mosaic (even though I know it’s not there), peach, nectarine and some stone fruit. (Smell - 4.25)
Taste followed the nose, but was a toned-down version. Got passion fruit, floral, papaya, guava, spruce wood and dry melon rind. (Taste - 4.00)
Medium body. Creamy texture. Lively-to-average carbonation. Dry floraly finish. (Feel - 4.00)
This was a pretty good IPA. Not really a surprise with Modern Times, but really good. (Overall - 4.00)
