Type: 16-oz. can
Glass: Clear 16.5-oz. Belgian ale tulip
From: Modern Times Lomaland Fermentorium
Price: $17.99 for a 4-pack
Purchased: May 15, 2017; Picked up May 21, 2017
Consumed: May 21, 2017
Reviewed as: New England Style
Misc.: Canned on May 11, 2017

Had sampled this back on April 8 and gave it a 4 on Untapped and wrote, “5-oz. taster collab with Cellarmaker. Galaxy and Nelson up front, Citra and Simcoe in the back. Orange juice all around.” Decided to go in on a 4-pack, mainly because of a trade I had to send out and also because I needed to review it soon. Hoping it’s in the 4.00-to-4.10 range.

Poured pale hazy color with 2-to-3 fingers of frothy white head. Light bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Excellent uneven foamy lacing. Excellent retention. (Sight - 4.25)

Smelled a huge whiff of hops from the get-go. Got Citra, Nelson and Galaxy. This was dank. Also sugary mango, grapefruit, pineapple, papaya, guava, melon, orange juice and orange peel. (Smell - 4.50)

Taste was not quite as good, but still delicious. Got orange creamscicle, orange blossom, Nelson, spicy Simcoe, Citra, Galaxy, sugary mango, red grapefruit, papaya, guava, orange juice and melon. (Taste - 4.00)

Medium body. Oily texture. Lively carbonation. Dry finish. (Feel - 3.75)

This was probably better than when I sampled it on Untappd. Not sure I could have multiple of these in one sitting. Very sugary, reminding me of those IPAs from The Alchemist. (Overall - 4.00)

Very light, lemon-hued body, fairly hazy in thicker portions of the glass. A turbulent pour produces nearly three fingers of snow white head. Retention is good, leaving behind lovely lines of lacing.

The aroma is herbal, but not over the top. Candied lemon, oregano, mango, pineapple, and star fruit, along with a restrained sweet dankness. Sweet wildflower honey and cracker. For a 7% IPA with an intimidating name, the hop aromas are fairly restrained.

Flavor is intensely juicy from the get-go - and yes, fairly dank, although not over the top. A sea of tropical fruit juices washes over your palate, bringing to mind papaya, mango, pineapple, lemon, orange, and berries. The dankness is there, along with a slightly crisper herbal edge, like oregano.

Finishes fairly crisp and clean; semi-dry, a little surprising for the ABV, which is on the higher end for single IPAs. Lively and active, but nearly full bodied.

An excellent IPA, as juicy as they come.

On tap at the brewery, into a stemmed pint.

Straw-yellow appearance with a cloudy haze, the brew forms a fairly stodgy 1-inch head that paints the glass with lacing

Big, bold bouquet, dank and resinous. Notes of citrus rind meet ripe tropical fruit and play off a backdrop grassy, earthy grains.

Flavors roll over palate with a similar profile. Bitter orange rind blends with mango/pineapple juice, balanced by sharp grassy floral notes and a touch of honey sweetness. A zesty, lemon-peppery undertone ushers in a medium-long finish, with lingering bitter risiduals.

This brew is fun to drink as you can taste both brewery's trademark hop profiles. Modern Times brings those zesty, citrusy nuances, while Cellarmaker combines the dank and the juice like no other. Tasty beer.

Can dated 05/11/17 into a tulip glass.

L: Pours hazy golden bronze with 1+ fingers of medium density white head with moderate retention and left mixed lacing.

S: Mucho melon, peach, mango, and earthiness with some floral undertones. Moderately potent and enjoyable.

T: First sip reminded me of Moonraker Holy Hermit...I love that beer. Plenty of melon to match the nose, but more citrus than in Holy Hermit. Finishes with mild bitterness and moderate astringency, some lingers a bit.

F: Medium-lighter bodied, moderate carbonation, finishes silky smooth. Very easy drinking.

O: Delicious beer that will leave the chrazies upset it's not hazy enough, and those wanting the uber soft creamy mouthfeel upset...that said, I loved it! Great blend of the desired aspects of both West Coast and NE-style, but everything is subtle and plays well together. Definitely one of the better collab beers I've had, but with 'Dank' in the name it's lagging behind the Altamont/Cellarmaker collab Dank of America for dankness.

Collab with Cellarmaker. Hazy IPA with simcoe, citra, galaxy, and nelson. Nose is all citra, with galaxy and nelson dominating the palate. Delicious, well balanced juice...this needs to go into a can asap.

Slightly hazy and yellow beer with a white head. A little lacing is left behind. The aroma is dank and herbal with some grapefruit and papaya. The taste is sweet upfront with overripe papaya and citrus followed by an aggressive bitterness of pith and pine. There are some peppery and herbal flavors as well. Nice lingering bitterness at the end.
