Had been seeking this out, but not really that hard. Specifically went to Trader Joe’s, hoping to grab a 4-pack, but there were only two left. So be it. Grabbed both and four other beers as well. Online description read, “The progeny of London yeast and a breathtaking plethora of juicy hops, this 7% stunner promises to be a hazy IPA of the highest order. Prepare your taste receptors for a rousing chorus of tropical wonderment that will have you singing its praises long after the final sip.” This was written late in 2017 and I was surprised that the hops weren’t mentioned. Either way, was expecting to be in the 3.90-4.10 range. NOTE: Later saw in a review that Mosaic, Simcoe and Eureka (not Ekuanot) hops were used. My two favorite and Ekuanot. Nice.

Poured a hazy bright pale color with two fingers of off-white frothy head. Lots of fast-moving bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Very good spotty lacing. Good retention. (Sight - 4.00)

Smelled floral, passion fruit, pine forest, tangerine, papaya, rose petals, tangerine peel and lime zest. Got more Simcoe than Mosaic or Ekuanot. From the can added juicy peach, nectarine and mango, also rose petals and pine. Green peppers late as well. (Smell - 4.00)

Taste wasn’t quite as good as the nose. Got Simcoe first, followed by passion fruit, papaya, floral, rose petals, tangerine, peach, nectarine, woody pine, mango, peppery spice and orange peel. (Taste - 3.75)

Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, juicy finish. (Feel - 4.25)

Was kind of wavering with the smell (better than a 4.00), but really liked this overall. Maybe slightly overrated overall at 4.00. Outstanding. (Overall - 4.00)

Canned on 4/27, consumed on 5/12 - poured from a tall-boy into my Dogfish Head shaped pint glass.

Fraxos, another recent hazy concoction with London ale yeast and 50 IBUs was pretty tasty, so I jumped on this even though the malts/hops haven't been announced at the time of this review.

Nearly opaque mango body supports a half finger papaya whip head; soapy lacing; good retention.

Tropical and citrus aromatics with hints of candied ginger and orange blossom beneath the guava, mango, pineapple, kumquat, and tangerine notes. Juicy with faint floral esters from the yeast I presume.

Orange juice and grapefruit zest on the palate, supplanted by a vaguely bready/oaky flavor and a layered malt bill possibly with some oats in the grist? Moderate bitterness, fruit-forward but slightly grassy hop flavors lead to a medium finish suggesting clover honey and orange marmalade before a final woodsy flourish.

Soft, medium-light bodied, with the alcohol neither too forward or surprisingly restrained for the ABV.

Another good IPA from Modern Times, though much like with Fraxos, not appreciably better than some of their regular line-up (e.g. Orderville), let alone their seasonal offerings (e.g. Critical Band, City of the Sun, etc.).

Pours a slightly opaque gold with little to no head

Nose is ripe white peach, apricot, and nectarine.

Taste is peach but more heavily orange.

Nice soft mouthfeel, almost a pleasant sweetness, without being sugary.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a very hazy orange amber with a three finger white head that dissipates very slowly leaving nice lacing. Aroma of pale malt, citrus and tropical fruit hops with light dankness, orange, grapefruit, mango, pineapple and passion fruit. Flavor is neutral malt, mild orange, tangerine, mango and mixed tropical fruit with a drop off of flavor into the lightly to moderately hoppy finish with residual flavors of dried tropical fruit, hints of pine and citrus rind. Nice medium body with moderate creaminess. The aroma of Avalon is very promising, giving me hopes of a full bodied mixed tropical and citrus fruit base. Everything is fairly mellow, however. This fits the profile of the hazy fruit forward IPA, but it is one of the variations that leaves only fruit and little herbal hop flavors in the finish. A fine example of the style from Modern Times, as expected, but to laid back for my palate.

Poured from a 16-ounce can, dated 4-27-2018, a slightly hazy lightly golden yellow under a 1-inch thick white head which rapidly fades to the rim and leaves clumpy and spotty lace. Aroma is floral, tropical and stone fruits and some yeast. Flavor is juicy and fruity with some malt. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Finishes soft and somewhat bitter/dry. Nice use of Mosaic, Simcoe, and Eureka hops.

Canned 4/27/18.
Look: Dark yellow near gold in color. More of an unfiltered look than hazy. Little to no head, with minimal lacing.
Smell: Stonefruit forward, consisting of peach, nectarine and apricot. Has some citrus, primarily grapefruit and orange. Slight herbal presence from the hops, along with a yeasty backbone.
Taste: Peach, apricot, mango and orange present up front. Slight yeasty/flaked biscuit flavor as well. Slight sweetness to the beer, with a little bitterness. Leaves a sweet taste in my mouth.
Feel: Medium in body but somewhat light in weight. Carbonation is moderate to high, with slight fizz on the tongue.
Overall: I was looking forward to trying this beer, and I am enjoying it. It has a nice fruit flavor with some pleasant hop profile. I enjoy the yeast presence as well. I believe that it is well worth a try. I am grateful to have tried this. Cheers!

Pours an opaque bright-orange with a finger of foam. Aroma is mango, papaya, tangerine, lemon zest, and earthy malts. It has a dense tropical fruit aroma display. Flavor profile is mango, papaya, tangerine, and a squeeze of lemon at the end. Malts are difficult to pick out, or in other words - buried by hops. Malts are biscuit and earthy, but very light. Mouth feel carries a bit of a grainy texture within a medium thickness. Overall, a heavy tropical fruit IPA that does very little outside of that.

Served in a 12oz snifter from a 16oz can.

Had this at the Reno Invitational last Saturday. They sent 3 different beers, this was one of the two ipas. Comes out with a moderate amount of haze and yelllow in color with a 2/3" white head that lacks in retention despite its decent size.

Aroma was a little bit of Mosaic, it wasn't super juicy, a little bit of tangerine in there.

Taste wasn't too bad. It does still keep the streak of not being super impressed with their hoppy beers. It had some juiciness, milder bitterness, the hallmarks of these hazy ipas. I think the Simcoe(?) hop pushed the most weight on this beer. Some more tropical notes like papaya and guava are up around the bend. Its an enjoyable beer, kind of amazed how they've got a decently big distribution footprint with so many other hoppy beers out there.

Solely based on other Modern Times Hazy Ipa's. The forward taste is fruity, but finishes with the bitter of a tradition IPA.

Can from ABV.

A hazy light orange with a white head with good retention and lacing this looks great. The nose is modestly hoppy with peach, orange, a little mandarin, some melon and a touch of grass. A little honey is present too. The palate opens mildly bitter with plenty of hop flavor. There's fresh squeezed OJ, peach juice, a little guava and some passionfruit. Floral honey notes are present as well. Quite clean, though the mid palate is a little watery. A touch of mineral is present as well. Drying on the finish, this beer is moderately carbonated. Solid stuff.
