Named for a mystical island of adorable virtual pets, this sublimely refreshing Berliner Weisse handily lives up to its magical moniker. We loaded the tart, deeply quenching base beer with a boatload of mangos, guavas, and apricots--a combination of things that we find to be immensely pleasing to our faces. We’re extremely confident that you’ll agree.

22 oz bottle sent from Don. Poured into Crane snifter (but not all of it, come on now)

Big golden color with hints of straw, with a fluffy bubbly fingernail of white head on top.

I get aromas of pilsner malt, slight passion fruit and apricot, orange zest, and slight fruity yeast. The nose is louder than most Berliners but still tough to get.

Flavor is a lot like the nose, it's pilsner malt and hay, with an almost Budweiser-like dirty floral lager quality to it; tart passion fruit, some kiwi, more tartness and general graininess, then slight apricots and seltzer on the finish.

Feel is crisp and wet, biting the tongue with slight acidity and then leaves a chalky starch on the tongue but not on the rest of the mouth. Crisp biting finish.

Overall, Berliners aren't really my thing, and this is fairly average at being a Berliner. The fruit qualities are louder than you'd expect for the style which is good, but at 6.5%.... one could consider it an "imperial" Berliner which doesn't really pay off here - it's simply not worth the calories and fuzzy-headedness when flavor and enjoyment are considered.

Slightly hazy apricot color on the pour with a white head, it’s no surprise that the incipient aroma is apricot, and there’s also mango notes.

The apricot is most noticeable on the taste, and the mango is also present. The mouthfeel is to style, and overall this is a nice Berliner Weisse.

Golden green with a small haze and slow rising bubbles, topped with a finger of white head.

Smells sour and fruity like unripe yellow plums, mixed with skunk and malt.

Tastes both sour and sweet like plums and malt.

Light body with moderate carbonation.

I got this in Pala Cedro, and am drinking it in Redding, June 26, 2019.

Misc.: No bottled on date

Had been wanting to pick up a bottle of this for a while as it was their August 2018 release. Generally a fan of everything Modern Times does, including their Berliner Weisse’s. This one looked good as the online description read, “Named for a mystical island of adorable virtual pets, this sublimely refreshing Berliner Weisse handily lives up to its magical moniker. We loaded the tart, deeply quenching base beer with a boatload of mangos, guavas, and apricots--a combination of things that we find to be immensely pleasing to our faces. We’re extremely confident that you’ll agree.” Front of the bottle calls for a tropical, stone fruit sour, while the back calls for pilsner and white malts with mangos, guavas and apricots. Seemed right up my alley in what I was looking for in a Berliner Weisse.

Poured a bright gold semi-clear color with 1-to-2 fingers of frothy-to-fizzy off-white head. Lots of fast-moving bubbles coming up the sides of the glass. Outstanding uneven lacing. Outstanding retention. (Sight - 4.25)

Smelled a mix of sour and tropical fruit. Specifically apricot, guava, mango, grapefruit, pineapple, stone fruit, sour apple Warheads candy, pear and white bread. (Smell - 3.75)

Tasted that same mix of sour and tropical fruit. More sour than tropical fruit, but close. Got guava, apricot, mango, grapefruit, pear, peach, pineapple, stone fruit, green apple, sour apple Warheads candy and white bread. (Taste - 4.00)

Light body. Oily texture. Lively-to-fizzy carbonation. Sour finish. (Feel - 3.75)

Liked this one, as I thought I would. Very good (Overall - 3.75)

a really well made beer, like just about all of the modern times stuff is, but as my homie said when we were sharing it on saturday night, it seems more like a base beer than a standalone drinker, which probably sounds weird for a beer that is already fruited and whatnot, but its really true when you drink this one, its like overly understated if that makes sense. the sourness is clean, but its hardly there at all, more than balanced by even minimal pale barley malt sweetness in this, just a little but tart, certainly not sour enough to pucker me up or impede drinkability at all. the fruit is a little sweet too, with guava and citrus jumping out at us the most, natural enough, kind of standing along here in such a minimalist beer. i get a little jammy note to the apricots as well, but its not sugary or concentrated or anything like that. i like how clean it all is in the end, but it really doesnt have much going on, like it needs brett, a gin or wine barrel, or to be blended in with some type of multigrain saison or something, its like a part not a whole, but it tastes good and is easy drinking for the style.

The beer pours out a dark golden color with a tinge of haze and a thin white head--------- the aromas are of wheat and tartness(very underwhelming aroma)------------ the flavors are of wheat and a lime like tartness, the beer has a thin to medium mouthfeel with a dry lightly bitter finish------------- overall this beer was underwhelming to me, I don't know if it was an off batch but I got no stone fruit once so ever--

Pours a hazy golden orange with a lasting white cap.

Smells of tart tropical fruits, juicy ripe apricots, white bread.

Tastes of guava, ripe mango, nectar, saltine crackers. The crisp pilsner and whie wheat malt backbone pushes its refreshing qualities, but at 6.5%, it's heavy for the style.

Zesty mouthfeel, quite tart, and hops go unnoticed by me. 20oz is a bit much and I think I would have enjoyed it more if I'd had less.

A nice tropical sour with a mild hop finish. A strong pucker of a sour. Holds up on it's own, but there are a few other sours out there that I enjoy better.
