A: cloudy; medium gold in color; 1+ finger ivory head that receded to a thin cap; nice rings of lace;

S: lemon, orange, strawberry, and pineapple;

T: ping ponged between lemon, orange, strawberry and ripe pineapple - sometimes just one and other times a combination of some or all of them; finish is very mildly bitter and the aftertaste was orange and ripe pineapple;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; moderately dry finish;

O: more complexity of flavor than most other hazy IPAs;

16 ounce can into tulip glass
Canned on 11/14/2019, 6 weeks old on review date

Aussie hops (Nelson, Motueka) meet one of the most widely used US hops (Simcoe), and the results will make you roll up your socks.

L - Hazy, like golden honey, delicate white lacing across the top
S - Mountains of hop aroma, mango galore (wow!), pine notes, citrus overtones, very tropical and unique
T - I love the hop bouquet upfront balanced by the solid malt backbone, slightly bitter finish, you'll savor this one
F - Light bodied, very easy drinking
O - A very well crafted beer. I always look for this one on the shelf, well done Modern Times!

Overall this a very nice beer. Very fruity in the smell and the taste as well. The beer looked beautiful poured out of a can and the aroma was absolutely delicious. The taste wasn’t quite as good as those things, but that’s not to say that the taste wasn’t good by any means. Worth a try if you see one.

So this might be the best Modern Times I've had. Sheldon brought it over to Adam's that one night I was in town for a conference.

Pours a hazy light amber kind of color, produced about 1/2" white head. The nose, oh the nose is wonderful. The massive blast of Nelson brings to mind a familiar refrain in the beer world: "Man it smells like Nelson used to (Alpine)." These were what they say "are the good Nelson hops". While Mosaic, Amarillo, Galaxy, Citra etc. . . all are heavy bangers in the aroma world, for my mileage, there is nothing better than when you get top notch Nelsons for hop aroma. Here, they pop wonderfully in all their humid hippie dankness from down under.

Taste has what I like to refer to as 'balance' in terms of its hoppiness. You read a lot about people saying an ipa has balance, but come on, no they don't. They're hoppy. Here, the hops are balanced in that you have some amazing aromas from the Nelson, but the Simcoe use provides a hearty but not palate destroying bitterness to it. Sure you can push all that tropical fruit note around, but the Simcoe comes to give it a beer like bitterness that keeps the beer from feeling like a smoothie slurry. Good drying back end effect combined with the flaked wheat for levity. Very well done. Will buy when I see it. This would make the BA list cream its jeans if it was from (obligatory hype brewery reference).

Modern Times is great, they do very good beer, never been a letdown. This is no different, although each brew has its own character.
For example, this one looks amazing (very hazy, just like a fruit juice), with an amazing aroma (that follows the description on the can: ripe mangoes, nectarines and zesty citruses) that again makes you feel that what you are drinking is nothing but a fruit juice. So you kind of start thinking unconsciously about drinking a fruit juice and you kind of expect the taste to be just like that. But it’s not exactly that.
Here, the taste is rather light (to an extent that you might want to call it watery), kind of like how they drink juice in Germany: watering it down. It is like a schorle, a diluted juice in a way, because you kind of feel that there is a juicy density to the drink, and within that density there is some real juicy taste - so you start wondering why isn’t it like that all the time, why is it lighter than you expected?
Then you leave it for a while, let it warm a bit, and then the taste gets even, a bit less watery and a bit more equal once it reaches the best drinking temperature. Although it will never be as dense in its character as a West Coast IPA, it is still a kind of an IPA, a New England one. So there is enough hoppiness and raw, dank flavor to it but it feels like, if you compared a West Coast one to liquid gold or amber honey, a NEIPA is rather like a juice or something that you make in a blender - they are something totally different.
So I guess it’s the best to leave your expectations behind and try to appreciate this beer for what it is. It took me a bit longer to hit the bullseye than other good beers, but it eventually did and I guess it reached quite a good number. Modern Times just can’t do anything wrong, I feel.

Uniform hazy golden pour with finger of slightly off white head.
Aroma is fruity - citrus - lemon, orange - as warmed a good hit of mango, hints of melon, peach.
Tastes of juicy tropical fruit - pineapple, mango, melon, ripe orange, lemon, with some piney notes but sweetness dominates over minimal bitterness.
Medium full mouthfeel - creamy carbonation - leaves with a touch of citrus bitterness amidst a wash of fruity sweetness. Delicious.

Taste is piney and citrusy, but soft and juicy. Notes of gooseberries and mango and a moderate bitterness. Very easy to drink.

Hay, light, gloppy foaming bubbles.

Light aroma. Bursting with flavor. I get a light wine grape and a lot of cantaloupe and honeydew melon. It’s an all around well done beer.

16oz can into a Teku glass

Look: Pours a bright, opaque orange with a rocky, finger-and-a-half white head that leaves sticky, fine lacing down the glass.
Smell: Aroma is bursting with cirtus and tropical and stone fruit. Pineapple, mango, passionfruit, peach, apricot, orange, tangerine, and green melon.
Taste: Much like the nose, tons of tropical fruit, citrus and a touch of peach and melon. Finishes with a light but complex, earthy bitterness.
Feel: On the softer, creamier side of medium bodied.
Overall: Delicious. Juicy and fruity, with a light earthy dry finish. Not to mention it's pretty easy on the eyes.

Wonderfully hazy (not pulpy or opaque) lemon-yellow brew with orange tints. Excellent head production, retention, and lacing.

Big dose of tropical fruit on the nose, with mango, pineapple, star fruit, and passion fruit leading the way. Touches of citrus, primarily mandarin orange, and while it's not super dank on the nose, it definitely implies the palate could be quite pungent. Minor notes of Italian herbs.

Juicy and tropical on the palate. Smooth, lightly creamy, and lively. Mango, honey, doughy white bread, cracker; very mildly dank; Italian herbs and pepper. Not a ton of depth or complexity on the palate, but very tasty.

Poured from the can into a Spiegelau IPA glass. Canned October 3rd 2019.

Quite a nice looking NEIPA. Has a mix of hazy and turbid, but does not go full on swamp water looking body. Pale lemon yellow, but with some actual clear edges on the side of the glass, showing some very copious amounts of fine carbonation. A standard classic three finger white head hits, with some big swiss cheese like bubbles, and good staying power and retention. Some cascading pill lacing while settling and you have a great looking IPA here.

That hop aroma hits wonderfully. Classic fruity tones of tropical notes and citrus. Zest orange, with hints of earthy pineapple mixed in. Sweet grass and herbs get into the mix too. Hop dominant with a neutral malt and yeast presence, that is inviting and delicious smelling.

Palate gets in the groove. Locking hops of slight melon and much more into the tropical flavors of guava to mango like than the hinted citrus. Malt body is a bit basic, but solid. Aftertaste hits with an excellent balance of fruit punch light sweetness and grass bitter herbs, bordering on a menthol fantastic aftertaste. Misses a little in the malt density and chewy character to put it over the top.

A well suited and another solid beer from these guys who rarely ever disappoints me.

holy cow this is good! maybe my favorite hoppy beer from modern times so far, it just explodes with nelson goodness, to the extent that i almost dont recognize any other hops in here, what a great expression of them in a very drinkable beer, so much to like here! its not ugly dense hazy from the tap, kind of a pale muted color but some light passes through and it has a nice head, looking more cleaned up than a lot of these, even from modern times. it smells like nelson right away, lime and lemon, white grape, kiwi fruit, french melon and ripe honeydew, and lemongrass too, it peaks early in the aroma, my mouth waters like crazy, and i get some light spruce behind it. the flavor is just as fruity and great, fresh to the max, approaching top dose on the hops too, but no greenness or hop bite here at all. i love the fruity white wine character, hints of passion fruit and sweet lemon now, heady weed, gooseberry, and fresh flowers, its amazing, nelson in full glory. a fluffy feeling grain base to support, but this is good and dry in the finish too, and there is just some light bitterness that springs up late to keep it drinking like an ipa. a pretty clean palate on this one too, not a lot of hop oils or lingering flavor like a lot of these have, its juicy as can be at its height, but then its gone on the swallow for the most part. a really wonderful showcase of nelson hops, and a beer i am already excited to drink again. this ranks among the best beers ive ever had from these guy! glad to have it in idaho now!

Subdued nelson hoppy nose on this one...you get faint whiffs of grassy wine-grape and citrus notes. Taste follows with a wine grape and grapefruit bitterness on the finish. This is Nelson dominant, but you start to notice the simcoe presence as it warms. It has decent depth and feel for a single and is a tasty Nelson hop shelfie. Good!

Pours a nice rich golden tinged yellow with an absolutely lovely pancake batter head.
Nose is richly floral and tropical with pineapple and sweet citrus hits.
Taste has a thinner and more bitter tropical note. White wine, kiwi, grapefruit, etc.. Got a decent flavor but it's kinda one dimensional.
Mouthfeel is a little bit thin. more like a pale than an IPA, let alone one rocking the hazy moniker.
Overall this is nice and everything, if you really really like nelson it's definitely worth seeking out, but otherwise it's just a fine IPA. It's nice to get a bit of bitter in such a fruity subgenre.

16 oz can poured into a stemless wine glass.

Murky orange color with a white frothy head-leaves nice lacing.

Smells of Stone fruit, grape musk, citrus and light herbs. A touch dank.

Taste mimics the nose. Nice pop of peach, nectarine with light herbs. Finished with a slightly bitter citrus note.

Mouthfeel is soft and smooth.

I enjoyed this one a lot. A really nice mix of flavors. Quite complex and satisfying. I will repeat again soon.

Four pack of cans purchased at Total Wine in Lynnwood, Washington.
Canned on 09/17/2019. Poured in to a pint glass.

Look- Hazy golden orange juice color. Modest off-white head with decent retention, spotty lacing. light carbonation streams as it sits.

Smell- Light citrus, pineapple and stone fruit. A little dank and crackery malt.

Taste- Follows the nose with a bit of white pepper in there.

Feel- Light bodied compared to it's look, light carbonation on the tongue, well balanced though.

O- Not one of MT's better offerings IMO. Kind of mundane.
