Price: $6.75
Purchased: March 9, 2019; Picked up March 14, 2019

Went to Modern Times Lomaland to pick up my 4-pack cans of Hedge Witch and Temple of Ruin, but also walked out with a 4-pack of Mist Dragon and Dream Pop, and single cans of a pair of imperial stouts, including this one. Welp. Made that decision after finishing off a flight with it, giving it a 4.25 and writing, “Coffee cake is right. Cinnamon, coffee & vanilla. Excellent. Best overall flight I’ve had since at least June 2018, probably longer.” Official email description was, “We recently worked some collaborative magic with the fine folks of Green Cheek to summon this nitrogenated blonde stout. It's basically the most velvety slice of coffee cake you've ever had in liquid form, loaded with almonds, cinnamon, vanilla, & coffee. Treat yourself, and always remember to pour hard.” Definitely a sucker for blonde stouts, but I was still about to pour hard.

Poured vigorously, so had about 75 percent foam and head. But after that cleared poured a golden clear color with four fingers of off-white rocky head. No bubbles coming up underneath, a rather serene setting. World-class uneven foamy lacing. Perfect foamy retention. (Sight - 4.75)

Smelled coffee cake, coffee, vanilla, cinnamon, walnuts, brown sugar, cacao and dark fudge batter. More coffee than anything else from the can, but surprisingly not as good as from the glass after the pour. (Smell - 4.25)

Tasted even better than the nose. In order got coffee, vanilla, cinnamon spice, coffee cake, cacao, walnut, brown sugar, nutmeg, hints of caramel and dark fudge batter. So incredibly smooth for 10 pct. ABV. (Taste - 4.50)

Medium body. Sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth finish. (Feel - 5.00)

Just an incredible beer that grew on me each sip. Much better than the taster I had three days prior. Couldn’t get over how smooth this was. (Overall - 4.50)

I do have to say that I have a ton of respect for a balanced blonde stout, and this one nails all my needs. Close your eyes and imagine a smooth midnight stout and then realize that you are drinking what looks like a Mexican Lager. Such a difficult task that MT has accomplished and makes you realize they are so much more than what you can ever find in Trader Joe's.
