Notes: Lomaland is an earthy, rustic Belgian-style farmhouse ale that's both complex and quaffable. It smells like hay, pepper, and friendly sunshine. Its dry, cracker-like body and lightly-hoppy finish makes it a beautiful compliment to food. We named Lomaland after the brilliantly crazy utopian community that was the first settlement built in Point Loma, the San Diego neighborhood where our fermentorium is located.

L: Pours a slightly hazy golden-yellow, with gushing pure white head. Ample visible carbonation rising up the beer. It looks amazingly fresh and delicious.

S: A nice rustic barnyard funk. Smells of bread, grass, and must with hints of spice.

T: A very delicious saison. Subtle and balanced. Not overly spicy or funky but not too weak in flavor either. Don't quite know how to describe the specifics of the flavor. No particular words come to mind.

F: Medium body. Slightly above average carbonation level.

US pint can.
L: Golden yellow with a light haze and many streams of bubbles. The thick, foamy, white head is beautiful but short-lived.
S: Dry hay with a little spice in the background.
T: Lemon zest, barley sugar, white pepper, Belgian yeast. Low sourness, some bitterness.
F: Light & refreshing. Long, clean & dry finish. Solid carbonation.
O: A fabulous, clean, easy-drinking saison, favouring lemony hops over funk. That said, the dusty, yeasty, dryness lasts & lasts. Perfect Sunday afternoon, summertime refreshment.

A thanks to the creator of the canquest, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 16 oz. can. This beer came out quickly, resulting in a golden color with about 3 inches of head. Smell is funky, hay, lemons. Taste is lemons up front, yeast and black pepper in the background. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a pretty good beer.

Given all of my success during New CANned Modern Twin Peak Evil Times Beer Sunday (Week 744), I have now switched to What Beer Are You Drinking Now (WBAYDN) #2,410! I have relocated to CAN Diego, CA! The CANQuest (tm) is getting a good workout.

From the CAN: "Bright * Rustic Saison"; "2.5 SRM/Straw 30 IBU 1.006 Final Gravity "; "CZECH SAAZ [-] Hops[,] PILSNER MALT • FLAKED WHEAT •FLAKED CORN • TWO ROW [-] Malts"; "Lomaland is an earthy, rustic Belgian-style farmhouse ale that's both complex and quaffable. I wanted to ensure that any flocculate was back in suspension so I did some mild in-CAN agitation before Crack!ing open the vent. This worked ,,, a little too well since upon CANducting the Crack!, it hissed like it was under an N2 charge! Even the gentlest C-Line Glug caused a massive uprushing of foam to form two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, bone-white head with excellent retention. It sat like meringue atop the beer! Color was an oh-so-slightly-hazy Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4- 5). Nose was more peppery than hay, but I definitely got both. Mmm. Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, not quite creamy, but close. The taste had a pronounced Belgian yeast mustiness, like old newspapers from the attic, along with the aforementioned pepper & hay. Nice. Finish was dry & refreshing. Perfect for a mid-Spring holiday!

First had Lomaland poured from pint can, gift from my brother, into tulip.

Pours bright lemon-gold with 1-finger near-white head, which dissipates to a persistent film, leaving only trace specks of lace. Aroma of mild Belgian yeast and melon. Begins with sharp carbonation, then melon malt, and pilsner malt cracker, before a biting, very dry finish.

This beer is alternately sophisticated and raw, beautiful to the eye, subtle in the nose, and complex and flavorful before a bracing hoppy finish.

Pours a clear, golden color. Smell is slight hops. Taste is hops, citrus, some caramel. Just okay.

L: Pours a brilliantly clear straw gold with a medium creamy fizzy head and no lacing on the glass, a very nice looking beer.

S: Notes of hay, bread dough, lemon, some pepper, strong Belgian yeast, some earthiness, a very nice aroma.

T: Hay, doughy, strong Belgian yeast, some clove and pepper. Very nice saison.

F: Some prickly carbonation medium body.

O: A very enjoyable saison.

I feel terrible that I ripped through two four packs and never actually gave this a review. When I get more i'll update this but between this and Prairie Standard I have two of my absolute favorite Saison/Farmhouse ales in a 4 pack. Tons of great flavor, holds up well with age, and just incredible overall. Highly recommended.

Look: Golden yellow with a white head that is quite soft, lingers nicely - yeast haze
Smell: Yeasty, saison funk, lemon, grass, hay, bread
Taste: Much like the smell, but a bit more on the funk and bubble gum side, some hoppy bitterness
Feel: Refreshingly crisp, some energetic carbonation, tart
Overall: Decent summer beer to have after mowing the yard or applying concrete sealant all afternoon in the sun

Poured from a 16 oz can into a Dogfish head tulip

L: Clear light golden pour with massive fluffy white head. Great retention and lacing.

S: Lemongrass and citrus. Slightly floral.

T/F: Crackery grains and malts. Strong lemon/citrus flavor... pepper and mild spice. Mild yeast esters. Floral and a bit funky... earthy. Light bodied... a little thin. Well carbonated. The finish is more citrus.

O: A solid citrus-forward Saison. Easy drinking... great for warm weather. Not my favorite Modern Times beer but a solid brew.

Thanks to eyebereej for sending this one! Reviewed from (long-standing) notes. Poured from a 16 oz. can into a Tampa Bay Brewing Company snifter.

A: Light yellow in color with a mild haze. Forms a big fluffy white head, and a good amount of visible carbonation.

S: Pilsner malts, yeasty, and some cooked corn. Some mild lemony citric quality and a bit of wheat graininess.

T: Pilsner malts and lemon citrus, coriander and wheat. Still a slight corn flavor, though less than I got on the nose. Some hop bitterness near the end. Some saison yeastiness but minimal black peppery character.

M: A light body, with a low alcohol presence and good carbonation sensation.

O: Not an overall offensive beer, but this isn't a very good saison. Almost more of a Belgian pale ale brewed with saison yeast or something. Minimal farmhouse character or funk, almost no black pepper, and the yeast doesn’t play enough of a role. Perhaps a canned craft beer to give to your Bud Light friends.

If you're a hophead thinking about getting into saisons this Spring, this beer would not be a bad place to start. It has a lot of true to style saison characteristics (wine-type aromas/yeast/slightly sour/funky) , but also has a generous dose of hops. Personally, I'm not doing hops right now, so the 30 IBUs of hops was more than I really wanted, but for an IPA fan, it will probably be appreciated. Overall this beer met its stated goals, and was well-made.

Light golden yellow in color with just the slightest haze. Poured with a moderate, soapy, bright white foam with medium low retention. Tart fruit, sweet under-ripe banana and wheat malt aromas with a hint of pepper at the end. Medium light bodied with acidic medium high carbonation. Tart fruit flavors up front followed by sweet banana esters and bready malt. Tartness and acidic carbonation through the middle to the end. Finished with tapering tartness, wheat bread, light banana and peppery esters, and light earthy hop notes. A pretty straight forward saison. Esters were a bit subdued and the feel was similar to an adjunct lager. Balance leaned toward the malty backbone. Easy drinking and pretty tasty.

Appropriately pale gold, fluffy head. Aroma has some light citrus zest, cracked pepper, hay but with a very faint soapy industrial vein that detracts a little . Taste is good but not mind-blowing - the rustic yeast could be more robust, malt is wheat cracker, a little greasier on the tongue then I like for a saison, needs to be crisper.
