Style: Saison / Farmhouse Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Lomaland is an earthy, rustic Belgian-style farmhouse ale that's both complex and quaffable. It smells like hay, pepper, and friendly sunshine. Its dry, cracker-like body and lightly-hoppy finish makes it a beautiful compliment to food. We named Lomaland after the brilliantly crazy utopian community that was the first settlement built in Point Loma, the San Diego neighborhood where our fermentorium is located.

Look (3): Not impressive to me. It's got a light colored straw hue with some very slight haziness. If not for the said haze this could pass for a typical pilsner. A white frothy head, disipates quickly. Lots of carbonation bubbles.

Smell (3.25): A grassy and daisy flower smell or freshly cut hay. Bananas? Maybe. Not loving it yet, but interesting either way.

Taste (4): Definitely not a pilsner. Banana and floral grassy flavors. Fresh green lettice and lemony flavors. There's not a lot of malt to back this up. White pepper at the end that may actually be a bit bitter. I like it now.

Mouthfeel (4.25): So cool, you get the creamy smoothness you get in most wheat brews, but at the same time it's got a very light and crisp finish. Light bodied and the taste lingers for a good while.

Overall (3.75) I like it. It's like a cross between a pilsner and a wheat beer.

L: Pours a hazy yellow gold. 2 to 3 fingers of white bubblly head which lingers for quite a while.

S: Earthy, floral, some lemon.

T: Follows the nose. Nice dry finish.

F: Medium body, medium to highly carbonated.

O: Real nice saison. Too bad most aren't like this.

Grading to style this is a very nice Saison. Got this as a trade extra and paired it with some Ahi Tuna and the combination was fantastic. I can't recall the last time I enjoyed a Saison so much.

Pint can. Canned on 2015-09-01.

A: Clear gold. A lot of foam but sank soon.
S: Grainy. A little metallic.
T: Banana. Quite watery.
M: Light bodied. High carbonation.
O: Closes to corporate lagers and hafeweizen. Very disappointing.

Pint sized can served cold into a tripel tulip. Canned 12/15/15.

Lomaland is a very pale straw colored ale with thick white head. It settles slowly and leaves a small bit of lace behind.

Aroma is mildly fruity, floral, and funky.

Flavor is sweet up front with with a hint of lemon. The middle is slightly funky with a farmhouse style yeast. Finishes dry.

Mouthfeel is light in body and nicely carbonated for the style. Good balance between sweet and dry.

Overall a light and drinkable saison. Low alcohol makes it session friendly and probably great on a hot summer day.
