Nice dark brown beer with a light tan head. Doesn't leave much behind in lacing but the head stayed around the edge of the glass throughout. The aroma is slightly sweet, roasted malts with a touch of coffee and chocolate. The taste is roasted malts and a weird cola like taste that finishes with a little coffee and chocolate. Decent carbonation and a slightly thin mouthfeel. It is a pretty solid porter.

Very disappointing. Get some coffee and some chocolate tones but it's watery. It's actually quite unimpressive. Rhinegeist struggles with making styles outside their usual IPAs.

This porter is darker than most, pretty near black. A light brown head is just a little more half a finger tall with pretty good retention and some mixed spotting and patching left behind.
The nose brings up some light roast, maybe a touch on the toastier end, a light note of bean sprout (for lack of a better description), a hint of fudgy chocolate, stale coffee grounds, and kola nut.
The taste follows suit, and I find myself wishing I could draw more flavor out of this beer. What's there is good, it's just a little on the weaker side, and even then not that much. I also get a vague notion of something like deli meat (not spoiled or anything, and a little confusing).
The feel pretty good, a medium body with just a bit of crispness and fairly smooth. It hits the median between sweet and dry on the palate.

Good Porter. Yum. A bit thin, but well done overall.

I got a 6pck of panther from beer store around the corner. It an opaque dark with thin white head with no lace. The scent had some roast. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall a solid porter.

This is a pretty cool porter, close to but not quite like anything I've tried. As it warms a sweet, sugary chocolate flavor comes out that reminds me of a chocolate Tootise Pop. That's balanced by deeper roasted cocoa and barley. Overall, very clean with bright malty flavors but not so heavy like a lot of American porters.

Rhinegeist Brewery - Panther. 5.8% ABV. 12oz can poured into a snifter.

Look: Pours a reddish black, identical to a Pepsi. Settles pitch black, retaining some ruby highlights. Two finger tan head, which lapses into trace amounts of lacing.

Smell: Very roasty, with dark malt, and hints of coffee, along with some roasted oats.

Feel: Medium bodied, but very smooth with some carbonation.

Taste: Smoky and roasty dark malts, coffee, oats, and a sweet chocolate finish.

Overall: Great example of an average porter; is smoky and roasty, and has coffee and chocolate. This one, unlike some, has a very smooth mouthfeel.

A solid, straightforward porter. Nothing offensive about it, but certainly nothing to make it stand out. I drank it, enjoyed it, but I don't feel compelled to purchase again.

Pours a dark brown that is clear around the edges. The head is thin and tan. The nose has touches of chocolate and coffee, but it is severely lacking. The taste is caramel and touches of roasted malts, but again nothing that you'd expect from a robust porter. The feel is watery for a porter and I'm just left looking for more here and in all other aspects. Was really hoping for more but I'm just left bored.

Thanks Tracy for the can. This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a nice looking black color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. There was some lovely light lacing sticking and then sliding down into the beer. The smell, hot damn, if this wasn’t nice, it had a super nice roasty smooth coffee with a fairly light chocolate to mocha flavoring. Light vanilla slightly settles the aroma nicely. The taste took all of those previously mentioned flavors to combine and provided a super nice glazing of chocolate coating the vanilla and mocha. There’s a long lingering robust and smooth chocolate to coffee aftertaste leading to a not as dry as expected finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was there and good for the style and for me. Overall, I say this was a pretty good American Porter. If I lived in their distro, I’d be seeking this beer out more than enough.
