This is a very underwhelming porter. Very thin, lacking aroma, and not robust at all in flavor. I was extremely disappointed with this effort.

Dark brown with a massive tan froth leaving coral lace.

Smell starts out quite spicy or piney, with toast, cracker, milk, and cologne. In other words, it's not like a porter at all. The bready smell that takes over makes this seem almost like a lager.

Taste is brown sugar, pine, toast, and cola. It's almost like a nut brown, with a hint of cigar wrapping, and a sweet finish.

Feel is watery, thin, and semi-wet.

Overall this is like a nut brown mixed with a lager. I think it's a misstep to use the name "Panther" for something this mild. Such a name should be reserved for a more sleek, stealthy, and subtly vicious beer. This one's just weak.

Pours black in color with big, tan-colored, airy/fizzy head on top.

The aroma is roasted, malty and slightly tart.

Flavor also is malty and roasted, but much more prominent in the "tart" department... which I cannot remember being present in any other porter I've had. After reading the can for more clues, I'm thinking this probably comes from the molasses it's brewed with. I don't necessarily notice molasses in the flavor (although I wish I did), but something is giving it a tart and not-so-smooth flavor.

It finishes fairly dry and clean. Carbonation is nice throughout.

Very disappointing. Get some coffee and some chocolate tones but it's watery. It's actually quite unimpressive. Rhinegeist struggles with making styles outside their usual IPAs.

Can dated? DFH Snifter.

A: pours s completely opaque black.1 finger light tan head.

S: not a whole lot, though I have a cold. Some roast. Really faint.

T: light, not too roasty or sweet. Not nearly as hoppy as Edmund Fitzgerald. Finishes very clean. Very easy drinking; could see this pairing well with food. There is a slight wintergreen or tobacco like taste in the finish. Don't really care for that.

M: quite light; mid-bodied, smooth. Good carbonation. Very clean. Mouthfeel is really the best part of this beer.

O: a very average porter, borders on the darker, roastier brown ales. Not really much bitterness from hops or roast.

12 oz can.

pours a dark brown hue with minimal head and lacing. roasted malt, vanilla. flavor is roasted and then gets bone dry. bitterness is low if present at all, which is interesting for a robust porter. moderate body with a moderate amount of carb. overall, a no frills porter that is tasty, but really nothing to write home about.
