I got a 6pck of panther from beer store around the corner. It an opaque dark with thin white head with no lace. The scent had some roast. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall a solid porter.

Thanks Tracy for the can. This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a nice looking black color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. There was some lovely light lacing sticking and then sliding down into the beer. The smell, hot damn, if this wasn’t nice, it had a super nice roasty smooth coffee with a fairly light chocolate to mocha flavoring. Light vanilla slightly settles the aroma nicely. The taste took all of those previously mentioned flavors to combine and provided a super nice glazing of chocolate coating the vanilla and mocha. There’s a long lingering robust and smooth chocolate to coffee aftertaste leading to a not as dry as expected finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was there and good for the style and for me. Overall, I say this was a pretty good American Porter. If I lived in their distro, I’d be seeking this beer out more than enough.

A: Pours an opaque yet still clear extremely dark cola brown, approaching jet black in color with moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and faint chestnut brown colored highlights. The beer has a three finger tall foamy dark tan head that slowly reduces to a large patch of thick film covering the entire surface of the beer and a thick ring at the edges of the glass. Slightly less than significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of roasted malts, dark malts, and earthy hops with a hint of cola nut. Very light notes of dark fruit (fig + plum) in the aroma as well.

T: Upfront there is a moderate flavor of dark + roasted malts with a moderate amount of dark fruit (fig + plum) sweetness. That is followed by light flavors of molasses + cocoa and a light amount of earthy hops. There is a light to moderate amount of roasty bitterness which lingers through the finish.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation.

O: Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol and enjoyable flavors + aromas. Nice complexity of flavor.

On-tap 1/27/2017 at Natty Greene’s Tavern in North Attleboro, MA, served in a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep dark brown color, with a short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains coffee, chocolate, roasted malts, molasses and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of molasses, dark fruit, chocolate and coffee. Then a hearty roasted malt character comes in. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings some balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and a little smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, decent representation of style, this is a solid beer to drink for a while but there are better choices available within the style.

Dark brown with a massive tan froth leaving coral lace.

Smell starts out quite spicy or piney, with toast, cracker, milk, and cologne. In other words, it's not like a porter at all. The bready smell that takes over makes this seem almost like a lager.

Taste is brown sugar, pine, toast, and cola. It's almost like a nut brown, with a hint of cigar wrapping, and a sweet finish.

Feel is watery, thin, and semi-wet.

Overall this is like a nut brown mixed with a lager. I think it's a misstep to use the name "Panther" for something this mild. Such a name should be reserved for a more sleek, stealthy, and subtly vicious beer. This one's just weak.

12 ounce can into pint glass, canned on 11/2/2016. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy very dark reddish brown color with a 2 finger fairly dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, toasted dark bread, nuttiness, light smoke, herbal, light pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and moderate earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, toasted dark bread, nuttiness, light smoke, herbal, light pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness. Moderate herbal/spicy hop and roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, toasted dark bread, nuttiness, light smoke, herbal, light pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great roasted bitter/sweet balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from hop/roast bitterness, lightly increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, and fairly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is awesome. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.8%. Overall this is an awesome American porter! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink. Really outstanding well rounded malt complexity, spot on for the style. A highly enjoyable offering.
