Brewed by:
Rhinegeist Brewery
Ohio, United States

Style: American Blonde Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.80%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
This bright blonde ale shines a brilliant malt character. Born of breezes, captured sunlight and whifle, this beer is a balanced yet dry siren whose first sip calls for the third. Hopped with arguable restraint with Crystal and Bravo hops, Cougar stays fierce enough to raise eyebrows yet is tame enough to be called sessionable.

A nice pale gold and slightly hazy beer with a quickly fading white head that leaves a few specks clinging to the side of the glass. A subdued bready and toffee/caramel smell rise out of the glass. Nice slightly sweet taste with bready yeast, caramel and a tiny bit of fruitiness that ends dry with a ever so slight bitterness. Great beer.

Picked up a six pack of cans at The Keg, New Albany IN.

A: Light gold, light head, light lacing, light bubbling. Remember that word light.

S: Light bread, light herbal hops (very nice), some spice. That word again...

T: This is where I want to remember that word: light. There is zero excuse to drink an adjunct, especially a "light", with this kid of beer available. Upfront there is some sweetness, bread, a little bit of grass, then some very light hop notes of mild pine. This is a very clean tasting beer.

M: I think this is very dead on for the style. Light carbonation, finishes very clean. These go down very easy, I think this would be a great hot day beer for the backyard.

O: This is the beer you serve your friends who drink Bud Light. It's clean, refreshing, nothing strong in flavor that will turn them off. And that also makes it a great backyard brew for the summer, I can see me putting a case of this on ice for everyone. It's a darn good blonde ale that could turn some of your crappy-beer drinking friends to the good side.

Pours a bright golden blonde . . . Almost shines in the glass. Crisp and clean . . . Refreshing beer. Not favorite by any means but Cougar has all the right characteristics I'm looking for in a golden blonde ale. Comes in cans and you can't beat that. In my best Arnold Schwarzenegger voice . . . I'll be back.

This is a very easy light beer. Pairs well with really any food and is refreshing. Has earthy undertones to the taste.

Pours slightly hazed orange blossom honey golden with a bright egg shell white hued head forms nicely with great retention and intricate lacing layered. Aroma pale malts express with biscuit bread dough hint of herbal and faint citrus hop accents just barely peak through. Let's see how it tastes, pleasant bready quality hints of fruit in the backend clean well constructed blonde ale, it looks like I have to seek out the Truth their IPA gets really solid scores and I love the artwork and color schemes on these cans. More about the flavor, really well built solid hop notes the can mentions Bravo and Crystal hops, I couldn't have picked those two out here but they add to a nice crisp dry finish, there's also some powdered yeast notes on the palate as well. Mouthfeel is lighter bodied alcohol I will classify as sessionable at 4.8% abv this is the no brainer, cruise control drinking beer...I wish my cousin would have brought more than a can from Cincy. He said he tried to bring me more but he had no self control. Overall very enjoyable easy to drink and enjoy, not a beer to overanalyze it is simply done yet really tasty.

12 oz can served cold into a shaker pint glass. No date stamp found.

Cougar is a hazy straw yellow color with thick white head. It settles somewhat quickly and leaves no lace behind.

Aroma is sweet and very low in hops.

Flavor is mild and sweet, low in bitterness, but balanced.

Mouthfeel is light in body and properly carbonated.

Overall a nice American blonde. Every brewery should have a crowd pleaser and this one likely fits that bill for Rhinegeist.

A nice, bright blonde ale. I'm a big fan of this local brewer. They have others I prefer, but this will do in a pinch. Gents, suggest this one to your lady friends when your at their amazing tap room.

I bought a can of Cougar from Andersons in Reynoldsburg, OH. It poured a clear yellow with white head that is leaving a lace. The scent is faint biscuit. The taste is evenly balanced and easy to drink. There is bread base. The Mouthfeel is lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it's a good beer and worth a try.

Lots of wheat like malt flavor with a cardboard like taste throughout. I catch a lemony hop and some obvious starches before it finishes with a nutty almond. All this is delivered in a neatly light package with a very light drinkability.
