22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy deep ruby red/light brown color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big raisin, plum, fig, date, cherry, peach, pear, apricot, apple, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, and toasted biscuit; with light notes of banana, clove, pepper, nuttiness, chocolate, herbal, floral, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Incredible aromas with fantastic complexity and balance of fruity/earthy yeast, dark/bready/light roast malts, and light earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big raisin, plum, fig, date, cherry, peach, pear, apricot, apple, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, and toasted biscuit; with light notes of banana, clove, pepper, nuttiness, chocolate, herbal, floral, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal bitterness and yeast spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of dark fruit, cherry, peach, pear, apricot, apple, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness/chocolate, herbal, floral, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/earthy yeast, dark/bready/light roast malts, and light earthy hop flavors; with a nice malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Slightly drying from bitter/spiciness as well. Medium carbonation and fairly full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, and slightly sticky mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 9.8%. Overall this is an amazing Belgian strong dark ale! All around incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/earthy yeast, dark/bready/light roast malts, and light earthy hop flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink for the big ABV. Very rich and highly complex, with perfect yeast/malt flavor balance. Never overly sweet or heavy feeling, despite the sizable body. A highly enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.

Pours a dark brown, with a red tinge. Head is barely there. Aroma is Belgian malts, plum, a bit of ripe banana, boozy sugar.

Taste is black cherry, brown sugar, bit of spice, dipped apricots, and a slight metal; as BA user @SHDoyle says, very "quad"-like with the sweet, bready, pepper hints. Alcohol is lurking although it's not "hot." A nice bourbon barrel undercurrent although they're not saying it spend any time in wood.

Sticky, carby finish. A bit thin and candied for a strong ale. Not bad.

Poured from 22oz bottle into Chimay goblet.

L - Reddish deep amber pour. Minimal head, disappears quickly.

S - Toffee, bubblegum, dried fruits, bready malts, slight metallic hints.

T - A touch of alcohol on the front end, followed by dark fruits, bubblegum and a brown bread malt profile. A touch of spicy hops.

F - A bit thin for the style, you can feel a touch of the alcohol heat.

Initial impression, it felt like a homebrewer's take on a BSDA. It has all the right kinds of notes and is very drinkable; but you can definitely tell it's not a Belgian beer.

Description: Ruby color, clear, with a slightly off white head and lacing. Smell is primarily dark, sweet fruit: plum, prune, raisin, etc. About what you'd expect from a quad. Taste is similar to the smell with the same dark fruits coming through but also a small hint of something lighter, like banana. The finish has a small amount of hop bitterness and the alcohol is noticeable. Feel is little thinner than I like in a quad but it's not bad. Low carbonation.

Suggested food pairing: Pork and sauerkraut

If you like this beer then you should also try: Westvleteren XII

Overall: 4 (This beer is good and I may or may not have it again) It's a quad and checks all the "quad" boxes but it's not outstanding, just good. I'd probably have it again but wouldn't necessarily seek it out.

Pours a very dark reddish amber in color with a loose tan head that dissipates somewhat quickly. A moderate amount of lacing is present.

Aromas of dark fruits dominate the nose, with hints of bread and brown sugar sweetness noticeable.

A hint of caramel and brown sugar is up front on the palate. By mid palate an explosion of dark fruit takes over with Black cherry, Fig, Plum, and red grapes. Finishes with dark fruit sweetness and a hint of heat from the alcohol.

Somewhat dry with a medium bordering on heavy body with low amount of carbonation.

Aroma is fairly subtle, alcohol, esters of pear, dark cherry.

Flavor is fairly hot, as well, with light caramel malt and a muddled fruit ester finish.
