Poured into a tulip, 1st appearance was velvety red with a 2" cream head that was slightly hoppy that soon changed to a chocolatey maple brown body with a thin white head and slow carbonation.
Aroma: Christmassy, cinnamon, hoppy, piney, chocolatey, nutmeg.
Feel: light and creamy, malty and thin. Very smooth and well balanced.
Taste: just like it says on the can, it's a beer to have right after consuming Oktoberfests, followed by November brown ales, and right after taking your 1st shot of scotch before the winter. It's a pre-winter, pre-Christmas beer. Called dad probably because it's the beer to drink after buying the last Christmas gift for your kids and now ready to unwind after working your ass off to afford the present. It's the beer reward for all dad's. Taste is malty, cinnamon, nutty, chocolate, hoppy, piney, and creamy.

Dad brewed by Rhinegeist Brewery, with an ABV of 6.00% This American Amber/ Red Ale pours out a nice redish deep amber color with a nice thick white head. Really like the copper color of this brew. There is also a decent amount of lacing to this brew, it sticks to the side of the glass well. The smell is rich with earthly grains and malts and a good amount of hops. Between the look and smell of this is one inviting brew. Now for the taste, it is bold and rich with flavors. You pick up on roasted grians and malts at first then a nice bitterness at the end with the hops. The body of Dad is a medium to heavy, but not to heavy. There is a lot going on in Dad, this is a nice full flavored brew. There is alot going on in this American Amber/Red Ale. I can't get over how smooth this brew goes down, it is really hard to pick up on the 6.00% ABV in this brew. The mouth feel is Bold, Clean , Smooth , Mild, and Refreshing. Overall I'm giving Dad a 4.25 out of 5. I would look this brew up again givin the chance to. Rhinegeist Brewery, did a real nice job with this brew. If your are a fan of roasted but hoppy brews look this one up.

Dad | Rhinegeist Brewery. Poured from the can into a pint glass, this beer's head is tan and three fingers thick, with webbed lacing, and a deep mahogany.

Smells like holiday spices with pine-y hops.

I taste quite a bit of bock traits with an enjoyable note attributed to the hops.

Medium mouthfeel with mild carbonation.

Overall, I'll rate Dad | Rhinegeist Brewery with a 4.25. Good, but not much re-buy value.

While the common Rhinegeist demeanor is to push upwards and onwards the styles reliant on hops and farmhouse, they're showing off a bit with Dad- a rich and elegant time-honored scotch ale that reflects on the classic malty style in mindset of dignity and respect.

Dark mahogany brown and with the slimmest of haze, the ale pours with a rich and lathery foam cap. As its sandy foam slowly condenses, it's release of earth, malt and chemistry entice the nose with a gentle tease of sorghum, coffee, chocolate and toffee. The first savory taste is all about the malt- breaming with toasted caramels and toffees as hints of butter pecan, maple and blackstrap molasses roll into its cakey-rich texture.

Retaining its firm and juicy maltiness, the beer's more savory and succulent malt flavors are given a brighter range with toasted spice cake, fruitcake and overcooked toffee that seems wonderfully seared in with sweetness around the edges. As the palate acclimates to the dense malts, it picks up on the more peripheral character- light peat, peppercorn and grape esters lurk in the recesses and give the sweetness a much needed level of complexity without pushing into harsh smoke, soil or fennel.

Full, lush and velvety, the ale still retains a remarkable sense of drinkability and effortless texture from a malty-dry finish that's warmed with supple rummy warmth and those gently rolling earthen spice notes. Finishing modestly boggish and molasses-like, its aftertaste is nutty, caramelized and playfully peppery.

Received in a BIF and enjoyed this hoppy red. What made it really cool was the beer was canned on 11-25-15. The day my son was born and I became a dad.

Lucky enough to have a can sent from Ohio. I'm typically leery of red ales — too often thick and simple — but this is a tasty beer. The hops and malt can both stand up. The hops with biting citrus rind and the barley brings a toasty bread crust with a light hint of toffee. The body it's too thick. It's sort of like a West Coast style red ale, in the sense that it's plenty hoppy with a lighter body. Closest beer I can think of is Dale's Pale Ale.

On-tap 12/18/2016 at Natty Greene’s Tavern in North Attleboro, MA, served in a tulip glass.

A: The beer is a deep dark coppery brown color, with a short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains caramelized malts, floral hops, fruit and brown sugar.

T: The taste starts out bready with a hearty malt character followed by sweet flavors of caramel, fruit and brown sugar. The hops presence is strong but not over-powering and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly hoppy and slightly bready.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, decent kick, good representation of style, this is a solid beer to drink for a while.

Red ales are growing on me. I believe this one is a holiday special edition seasonal. The spice taste is relatively mild, however, and it has a bit of hop to satisfy hopheads like me.

This is really pretty good. Pours a dark red with light lacing and low carbonation. It has a rich, malty flavor and kind of a nutty coffee-like after taste.
