12 FL OZ can
Served in a tulip glass

This beer pours a hazy, amber color with golden highlights. While this beer is technically hazy, I feel the label misleads the consumer to expect a turbid, NE style which it does not appear to be. It is topped with an inch of off white head that leaves rings of lacing as consumed.

The aroma starts out fruity with some pine. Then I pick up some earthy, dank elements.

It has a pine and bitter grapefruit flavor. The bitterness lingers in the aftertaste.

Medium mouthfeel

This is a solid IPA. The fact that they put "hazy" on the can bothers me a little. It is not hazier than the last "regular" IPA that I had. It is almost like they are trying to get the NEIPA fanboys to buy this based on the fact that "hazy" is a descriptor of the style. Nevertheless, it is a good beer. I expected a turbid beer based on the can, but I am happy that it tastes good. It is definitely worth a try unless you are seeking a NEIPA, then I feel you may be disappointed.

A ``hazy India pale ale'' (Rhinegeist's take on the New England IPA?) brewed with oat and wheat and hopped with Galaxy, Mosaic, and Hallertau Blanc. Poured from a can into a Woodburn tulip. The pour is pretty hazy and sports an impressive 3 fingers of creamy white foam on top. Excellent retention. On the nose I get fresh oranges, lemons, juicy fruit gum, and lavender.

Medium-light body with a firm feel and a sharp hoppy flavor. While there are definitely some citrusy notes (lemon) from the hops, I get some stony dry notes in there as well (very reminiscent of Duval, only without the high alcohol). Finishes very dry with a pleasant lingering hoppy flavor.

Another terrific beer from Rhinegeist. They chose an interesting blend of hops, but I have to wonder why they included the Hallertau Blanc. I'm not too familiar with that varietal and I assume it is the source of the stony dryness. I don't mind it, but it's not my preferred hop characteristic, especially in an American IPA. This is a really good beer, but it seems that its most natural competitor is MadTree's Entropic Theory. I have to give the MadTree beer a slight edge over this one.

Collaboration with Pipeworks. Canned on 8/3/17. 12oz can poured into a tulip. Pours golden with a subtle haze and a big creamy eggshell white head that slowly falls leaving great thick retention and sticky lacing. The aromas are very nice and full of ripe tropical fruit. Some sweet sticky grapefruit in the mix as well. Malts are there, but the hop aromas shine. The flavors are very clean, crisp and refreshing. Nice sharp bitterness. Nice hop flavors. Fresh grass is there along with some subtle hints of pine. Malts take a backseat. Finishes clean. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is awesome. It's on the fuller side of light with sharp active carbonation. It's slightly fluffy and extremely smooth. Easy drinking stuff.

This is a great collaboration and a great IPA. The craftsmanship is on point. It's highly enjoyable and very fun to drink. Well done. I know I'm giving it a high "numerical score", but there's something about this one that I really like.

Look - golden color with a lasting white head great skimming and slightly cloudy which makes sense with the word hazy
Smell - juicy tropical fruit that I can feel in my jaw from just smelling it. Lots of citrus and mango.
Taste - citrus and some of the wheat maybe some lemon grass and pineapple
Feel - medium slight creamy body with a crisp carbonation
Overall - pretty good IPA

angerine juice, melon, unripe mango and Grapefruit. Cracker malt profile with a bit of wheat. Chalky. Lighter bodied. Dry finish. Lower sweetness. Not bad.

I have a hazy IPA, you have a hazy IPA... We all have a hazy IPA! The brewers at Rhinegeist and Pipeworks jump onto the haze train with a collaborative ale that boasts some of the tangiest, tropical, citrusy and herbal hops on the planet for a New England styled IPA that's sure to quail the thirst for the "juicy" but only temporarily.

Astro Dwarf's herbal and fruity perfume spills onto the nose with a host of tropical fruit, citrus, herb and tangy notes to tease and tantalize the senses. Only slightly hazier than the standard American IPA, Astro Dwarf crowns with a creamy white froth and patient lazing. Initial flavors are delicate with honey, modest caramels and an overall fructose character.

As its creamy and malty upstart begins to dissipate, the taste of hops work into a juicy lather. Pineapple, white grape, orange, white grapefruit, papaya and gooseberry bring a tangy, semidry fruitiness of sherbet and fragrant fruit peel. As the full fruit profile skirts from the middle palate, the finish trends herbal, grassy, and brightly bitter. Suggestions of white wine and sassafras tea roll into a smooth but sharp hop bite.

Medium bodied throughout, the beer's up front creaminess is short while its finish is semidry. Showing more bitterness than many of the haze craze, Astro Dwarf's dryness in finish highlights its grassy, woodsy and vinous hop bite along with a long afterglow of fruit skins, peels and perfumes.

Lemon color, mostly transparent (minimal haze as advertised). Awesome, hazy, lace lines and shapes. Unbeatable head retention. Fresh, fresh, tropical, orange juice and pine aroma. Nice tropical, piney hop flavor. Bit of orange juice. Finishes dry. Not too juicy. Wet feel. Nice grainy, yeasty texture. Pleasant bubbles. Creamy finish. Solid brew.

A collaborative effort with Pipeworks Brewing, Astro Dwarf is a canned offering from Rhinegeist Brewing out of Ohio. Featuring Bravo, Mosaic, Galaxy and Hallertau Blanc hops, it is meant to emulate (but likely not completely ape) the idea of a hazy and juicy IPA originating from New England.

Pouring a deep golden color with nearly-complete opacity and bearing a lot of particulate matter in the body, this beer presents a bit more roughly than most homogeneously-hazed NEIPAs, but it does have great legs and solid-as-hell retention in the head department. Several fingers of white foam seem to cling to the sides of my glass, lacing throughout with spectacular aplomb. Not everyone is going to love the moderately-"dirty" appearance of this beer's main body, but most fanatics should applaud its incredible retention, legs and lace.

The nose is very Hallertau Blanc forward, with some strong gooseberry, white grape and guava notes combining with the berry-forward, dank elements of Mosaic. I get some blackberry, raspberry and scallion here as well with some passion fruit and grapefruit from the Galaxy addition. This beer is superbly done in terms of hop-additions... I get every hop they claim to have added, in specific and measured delineations. Some English-type malt is present, giving off some biscuity graininess alongside some guava, rye-like earthy spice and tangerine-ish citrus. Smells great... complex and unique.

Flavor seems to mostly follow my first impressions in the nose, with a dry white-wine like note upfront bringing forth white grape, melon and bright citrus. Following those notes, I get a little bit of crackery malt, green onion, dank elements, grassy hops and tangerine/citrus pith. Toward the finish, more tropical fruit comes out and I almost taste coconut alongside the guava and intense passion fruit. Slight darker berry from the Mosaic hops as each sip rounds out.

Feel is extremely dry and light here, with a moderately-high carbonation and (I assume) high attenuation. This is all about the hops, though there is a little bit of chalkiness from the oats and yeast. Pipeworks and Rhinegeist did a great job with this one... Astro Dwarf is one of those beers I could sip for an hour or crush multiples of at a party... it has a solid versatility due to the format it comes in and the deftly-defined recipe. Recommended!
