Medium body & mouthfeel. Smell of over-ripe fruit, an artificial-seeming aroma. Tastes more like guava than passion fruit, but really it just tastes way too sweet... like Sweet Tarts candy with a nasty sugar & chalk aftertaste. I winced at the first sip, bravely tried a couple more, then gave up and poured the thing down the drain.

Look - hazy copper color with an initial head that doesn't last with no real film
Smell - really tart sour ale scent
Taste - very tart with lots of tropical fruit. Not sure what passion fruit taste like so I can't really say it taste like what's in it
Feel - pretty think was a light crisp carb
Overall - fantastic!

Poured from 22oz bottle into Chimay goblet.

L - Pale, orange gold fizzy pour, very soda-like

S - Pineapple, passion fruit, sharp tartness.

T - Saliva inducing sour saltiness. Tart passion fruit.

F - Juicy, carbonation is supportive. Alcohol is not noticeable at all.

Sour patch soda with a kick. Turbo powered option for those that like hard lemonades.

Intensely tart and chocked full of tropical fruit fare, Rhinegeist's rendition of Liepzig's sour, salty and spicy ale trends much more sour, seeming berlinerweiss-like in its sheer acidity but seductive still with its tantalizing passionfruit charm.

Golden, orange, peachy and rich with haze, the ale seems to carry the appearance of fruit juice with extra pulp. Billowing with froth, the ale falls still shortly after. But the nose is enlivened with the nose piercing tang of tropical sassy fruit and a hint of stone fruit marmalade to follow. Lightly herbal and musty, the scent precedes a sweet fruit taste of pulled candy, saltwater taffy and lifesaver.

Across the palate, the ale sheds the bulk of its sweetness and the wheat and grain underpinnings support the sourness in much the same what that pastries do. High passionfruit stuns the tastebuds with strong sourness and the acidic twang of apricot, peach and grape. Lightly winey, the beer sings a sangria tune into a finish of lime, crabapple, sourdough and cellar-like mustiness.

Finishing sour, sharp and acutely acidic, the medium light bodied beer lays tracks of sour candies on a medium short aftertaste and an afterglow of musty peach wine.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass; no bottle dating, but is a recent release. Pours slightly hazy golden amber/light orange color with a 1-2 finger foamy and fluffy off white head with decent retention, that reduces to nothing pretty quickly. Minimal lacing on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of huge huge sour/juicy/tangy passion fruit, fruit skin, peach, pineapple, apricot, lemon, lime, green apple, grape, mango, melon, papaya, berry, sea salt, hay, grass, wheat, cracker, light lacto funk/pepper, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/acidic yeast, passion fruit juice, salt, and moderate pale malt notes; with big strength. Taste of huge sour/juicy/tangy passion fruit, fruit skin, peach, pineapple, apricot, lemon, lime, green apple, grape, mango, melon, papaya, berry, sea salt, hay, grass, wheat, cracker, light lacto funk/pepper, and yeast earthiness. Good amount of fruity/lactic tart/sourness, fruit tang, and light yeast spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of sour/tangy passion fruit, fruit skin, peach, pineapple, apricot, lemon, lime, green apple, grape, mango, melon, papaya, berry, sea salt, hay, grass, wheat, cracker, light lacto funk/pepper, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, passion fruit juice, salt, and moderate pale malt flavors; with a nice malt/sourness balance. Increasingly puckering, but not astringent on sourness. Light-moderate dryness from sourness and fruit tang, increasing through the glass. Medium-high carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, acidic, grainy, tangy, tannic, and saline balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 7%. Overall this is an amazing imperial fruited gose! All around incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, passion fruit juice, salt, and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth and quite refreshing to drink; despite the increasingly lactic/tangy/tannic/drying finish. The Lacto is pretty intense, but not totally overpowering. Enormous amounts of juicy fruit and yeast complexity; and a nice malt backbone to help control the acidity. A bit more salty/saline than most I’ve had before, but it doesn’t throw off the balance at all. A highly enjoyable offering.

L) The beer pours a lovely, hazy amber color with intense carbonation. The head forms with rather large bubbles and dissipates fairly quickly.

S) The smell is wonderful! It is incredibly passion-fruit forward, with many other tropical notes in there such as pineapple or stone-fruit. There is a crisp acidity that can be detected in the nose.

T) The taste is far more sour than the nose would indicate, but is absolutely delightful nonetheless. The passion-fruit dominates the palate, with notes of unripened peach and apricot. There seems to be a honey-like sweetness coming from the malt itself that lends itself perfectly to the intense lactic and citric acid profile. Little salt.

F) High carbonation. Very full bodied for the style.

O) Quite a nice gose, would recommend and buy again. Manages to be both assertive with its flavors and well balanced as a whole.
