A very well done coffee stout that is silky smooth and easy to drink. This is one to keep year round. Poured from a can into a perfect pint, a nice, thick tan head recedes to a film that laces nicely on the glass walls. A medium body with roasty malts, hints of chocolate, and a nice coffee flavor to finish makes this a well balanced beer on a chilly day. I’ll be picking up as many of these as I can before they disappear.

As the ultimate pic-me-up and put-me-down lies in the world of coffee and hops. Massively drinkable and robust at once, Rhinegeist puts the British milk stout to work in propping up generous coffee additions to drive this winter beer home.

Very dark brown and topped with a creamy eggshell froth, Calfe draws in the nose with a fresh brewed scent of dark roast coffee with a twinge of scorched cream, caramel and nuttiness underneath. A firm sweet taste of caramel and cream simmer on the front of the tongue and await the roasty dominance.

Slowly shedding its sweetness, the creaminess of malt and lactose remain in order to support the roasty, toasty goodness of French press coffee, burnt toast, roasted walnut, bittersweet chocolate and a soft nougat-like center. Treading on a woodsy late palate, the bitterness may come from hops, but it reads like coffee and cocoa with a light soilish, earthen flare.

Medium full in body, the beer's robust taste tricks the mind into believing a bigger body is present. But the moderate spice of coffee liquor, the mild coffee tannins, playful hop resins and the arid nature of roasted grain all lead to a nearly refreshing but toasty session. Its the linger of cream that seems slightly aspartame-like in a medium long aftertaste.

Canned on 11/29/18. 12oz can poured into a tulip. Pours almost black with a fluffy khaki head that fades leaving nice retention and lacing. The aromas are balanced and have hints of coffee, cocoa and milk. Some smoke. Lots of malts. The flavors basically follow the nose for the most part. More cocoa and coffee along with some mild hints of milk and vanilla. Nice sweetness that doesn't come off as overwhelming. Solid malt backbone. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is nice. It's on the lighter side of medium-bodied with moderate carbonation. It's fluffy, creamy, velvety, smooth and easy to drink.

This is a solid milk stout. It's more or less a traditional and classic example of the style. The coffee is pretty subtle and doesn't dominate, but it's definitely there. Not bad.

12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 11/29/2018. Pours lightly cloudy nearly opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of nutty medium roast coffee, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, cream, and toasted dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of molasses, licorice, dark fruit, smoke, char, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. A bit too fruity/yeasty aromas, but not overwhelming. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, coffee, lactose, light fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of big nutty medium roast coffee, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, cream, and toasted dark/brown bread; with light notes molasses, licorice, dark fruit, smoke, char, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Light Light herbal, floral, grassy hop; and roast, char, coffee bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of nutty medium roast coffee, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, cream, toasted dark/brown bread, light dark fruit/smoke/char, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, coffee, lactose, light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with a nice roast/hop bitter/sweet balance, and no cloying/arid flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering hop/roast bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. No warming alcohol for 6%. Overall this is a delicious coffee milk stout! All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, coffee, lactose, light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mildly bitter/drying finish. Very rich for the ABV. Great balance between rich malts, lactose, and fruity/nutty coffee complexity; with mild fruity yeast and earthy hops against sweetness. A very enjoyable offering, and impressive spot on style example as expected.

I got a 6pck of this from my local meijer. It poured an opaque dark with ecru head that is leaving some lace. The scent had coffee notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with mocha presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall its a solid beer.

Coffee Milk Stout poured from a can into a Rhinegeist tulip. The pour is very dark mahogany with a little bit of light escaping through. It sports a big, massive head of khaki foam with excellent retention. The nose is mild with some roasty notes, espresso, and toffee.

Medium-full body with a firm feel and a cream flavor. Coffee and sweet cream up front along with a little treacle toffee at mid-palate. FInishes with some sarsaparilla and cocoa. Overall, a really nice everyday stout. Nothing extreme or earth-shattering, but very pleasant to drink.

Rich amber-tinted dark brown, approaching black, with three fingers of khaki-colored head. Decent retention and nice webbed lacing.

Moderate levels of breakfast roast coffee on top of milk and chocolate in the nose. They carry over to the taste as well. Very well balanced and slightly sweet. Just a kiss of drying coffee bitterness in the finish.

Medium bodied, lightly creamy feeling, with light carbonation.

Really well made and easy drinking coffee stout. Hits the spot.
