Bolivian version.
Light golden color with a thin head with short retention.
Aroma with notes of malt sweetness and some German herbal hops.
Flavor with notes of malt sweetness and grains, just enough offset by German herbal hops. Dry aftertaste with a mild bitterness.
Light body with appropriate carbonation. Fortunately, less gassy than the regular Beck's.
Refreshing and easy to drink European Lager. Plain with no personality, but I guess this was the intention.

-Canned german-brewed Version
-pours a light golden with a medium, foamy, white head
-low to medium carbonation visible
-spicy,grainy,grassy,lightly sweet
-finishes dry
-medium carbonation
-light body
Typical substandard stuff from Beck's.While the canned version avoids the skunk of the usual green bottle it still comes with a heavy dose of sulphur.

Beck's Gold
500ml can
€3.90 @ Relay Frankfurt Flughafen, Terminal A+

Nothing hurts more than paying airport prices for a beer that's just mediocre, but what can you do? There wasn't much for me to choose from, and the Franziskaner (that I always drink) cost the same amount, so I went with this based on the Beck's name. Unfortunately that didn't help. This is clearly a beer that they've toned-down for the masses. For all I know it could just be Beck's with water added because, honestly, that's what it seems like. The bitterness that you expect from a solid north German brewery is just not there, and of course hop flavor follows. The malt is tamed down as well, but of course it would have to be or it would go out of balance... which means the body is lighter as well. So yes, it's a crisp, clean Euro lager with a firm bitterness, but there are so many of those out there that this one just doesn't stand out.

Poured from a bottle of 330 ml. First impression just by looking at the bottle, this looks like a summer/party beer, like it's Beck's Green Lemon brother. It pours a golden yellow colour with a two finger soapy head that quickly goes away.

Aroma is of corn and something sweet, can't really recognize it.

The taste is mildly bitter, traces of corny taste can be found but thankfully not that stong.

Very thin in body and minimal carbonation.

Overall, as I was expecting, a light summer beer that you can drink in large quantities, great for parties I guess.

A: Pours pale golden, almost straw-colored. The white head starts off really tall and thick but quickly sinks into decent lacings.

S: Surprisingly grainy for a German Pilsener, and almost a bit corny. Some sweet malt. Bitter hops, but way too modest. It’s more like a macro Euro Pale Lager than a German Pilsener.

T: That was better; more bitter hops to balance the malt. Way less grain and not any sign of corn. Mild taste, but not unpleasant.

M: Aftertaste is short and bitter. Body is light and carbonation medium. Smooth.

O: Well, this one was all over the place; the smell reminded of Euro Pale Lager, the taste was more like German Pilsener but way to mild. And aftertaste was very short. Very drinkable, anyway.

This seems to be a popular beer among young Germans especially in the clubs. It has a gold color with a lot of fizz. It smells grassy and little citrus like. If it wasn’t for purity laws I would say that this beer had a lot of adjunct but I know that it must meet those standards. It has light sweet grainy taste. The body is light and highly carbonated.

Crystal clear golden beer with a pinky sized, bubbly white head that quickly dissipates to leave a very thin lace.

Fresh smelling, hints of lemon & lime along with some grassy hops.

Clean tasting beer with some soft citrus notes and corn. Ends with a mild, bitter finish.

Light with good carbonation & a little tang to it.It goes down rather well & is pretty smooth/refreshing.

Not the most adventurous beer in the world but what it does, it does right. Incredibly easy to drink, this would make a wonderful session beer.

330cl bottle with a new label, poured into HB flute, 1 fat finger head. Poor head retention. Gold colour. Standard pils smell. This version of becks is milder than the standard one, it has a very fresh taste. It's been designed for the non beer drinker. Ok on the palate. It has a reputation as being a beer for women. Not bad but three bottles were enough.

A - This beer is gold ... well, that's what it says on the bottle, but it really has a pale golden color, which kinda looks really tasty.

S - Theres not much to say, a little hoppy.

T - Average taste, not much to it, but not bad at all.

M - Easy, light mouthfeel.

D - Very high, it goes down really, really good, you could have a few of these.

500 ml. can. Given the fact that I've only tasted the usual Beck's before, I was hoping another undrinkable beer, so this was a slight surprise. Nothing wondarful, but very drinkable at least.
Clean golden colour with a nice white foam that stands for a while. Smell of corns, floral, and some citruses. Light body and taste of corn and some sweetness. Metallic notes, but that's maybe for the can?
Nothing that I'd drink if I had some other beer available, but at least is drinkable and fresh.

In Germany, a “Gold” lager beer is often marketed as “fresh and mild tasting” and so is this one.

The colour is pale gold; the finger thick head is white and compact. It sinks slowly down, leaving no visible lacing.

The smell is quite strong for “Gold” beers: Sour-bitter notes (lemonade?), some yeast, and some semi-sweet malt.

The taste got mild malty flavours without any edge at all. There are some yeasty notes as some medium strong anonymous bitterness. The aftertaste got sweet notes of white loaf, hints of bitter hops, yeast and honey extract.

The carbonation is medium strong with lots of small bubbles. The liquid is a little creamy.

Yet another anonymous lager/pilsner beer with an annoying sweetness. Quite a drinkable one, anyway.

Bought 330mL bottle on the street in Munich after Germany beat Sweden this summer during the World Cup.

A: Gold, frothy head.
S: Fresh, smooth smell.
T: Nothing special. A slight sweetness is detectable.
MF: Crisp. Like champagne.
D: Not as drinkable as regular Beck's.

Overall, not great, but did the job. It's a good beer to drink if celebrating on the streets of some city that just won some sort of sporting event.

330 ml clear bottle, bought in Germany. Every big German brewery seems to be squandering their reputation these days by making a "Gold" beer - pale tasteless lagers with normal ABV, for people who really don’t like beer, but want the buzz. You think "normal" Becks has too much taste(!)? This one’s for you! Pale golden colour, low head, fizzy. Weak aroma with faint notes of grass. Flavour is boring as hell, but there are at least some hints of dry and dusty hops, so the beer is not COMPLETELY tasteless ...

Paid .50EUR + .05EUR glass deposit for a 330mL bottle.

*Reviewed on 22.05.2005

The beer pours a clear golden base with a medium sized white head, excellent retention and lacing effects, a beauty of a beer. However, the smell is as normal as any other lager with no real characteristics, but nothing bad.

The taste is solid but one-dimensional, kind of like a Yuengling with less character. It's nice on the palette but let this beer settle a little bit then your mouth will hate you. This is probably my go to beer in terms of a session beer…

Final Thought: When I was offered this at a gathering here in the university student house, I was absolutely impressed, given the Beck's label and all.

Hand-carried from Germany (by request... Thanks, N.). I was pleasantly surprised. Obviously fresh, extremely mild "Beck's" hops scent in the nose when poured; but the similarity with our "green bottle" Beck's ends there. Very drinkable, smooth beer with a fresh malt flavor and a delicate hops bitterness (emphasis on delicate). I didn't find it too sweet. Rather, I found myself wishing I could buy it here in the US. Excellent flavor. Perfect carbonation and absolutely perfect drinkability. Fantastic stuff!! Would easily become one of my favorite session beers.

Update: I don't have evidence of this, but as St. Pauli is brewed in the Beck's Brewery in Bremen and sold only in the US, I am convinced (after side-by-side taste tests) that the closest thing you'll get in the US to Beck's Gold (if it isn't the same exact product) is St. Pauli Girl.

BB 10-2005. Nice head and nice golden color, completly clear. Nose is good thhough quiet empty. Litle hops and litle malt altogether not that fresh due too quiet high oxidation level. Taste is empty too being litle malty and less hoppy. Nothing great to detect and oxidation noticable. Why in hell do they use these transparant white beerbottles. This one is litle green so probably with UV-block in it but IMO they still do very poor. Focus on the beers mr ImBev and not on the looks. Beck's is going down the drain fast becomming as good/bad as all other ImBev pilseners.
