16oz Tallboy
$3.99 6-Pack
West Side Liquors - Morris, IL

Hamm's is straw golden with 100% clarity. The pure white head, surprisingly hangs around for a while which is notable since most macros fizzle away in no time. Points. There's even a spot or two of lace left on the glass.

Light but semi-sweet maltiness make up the body. Grain and corn together but indistinguishable. I've never sat and pondered a Hamm's before but there's actually a touch of grassy hoppiness in the background and it's clean. Nice, for what it is.

Semi-sweet, but indistinguishable, maltiness is the major factor here. There is crisp graininess though with none of the ho-hum mediocrity of the big guys. There's a touch of floral quality on the finish but keep in mind when I say 'touch' I mean 'barely noticeable'.

The body is light and the carbonation is active enough to keep this beer moving at a considerable rate. A clean finish wraps things up.

Hamm's is made for drinking. Of all the American lagers out there this and Schlitz tussle for king of the mountain. If you noticed in my review I mentioned how clean and grainy this beer is, just as I think it should be. For what this beer is it's respectable.

A-Pours a clear yellow with a white frothy head.

S-Nice malt and grain presence with a little bit of a spicy note.

T-Some sweet malt and even some detectable hops.

M-Light bodied and crisp.

D-Well, I have to say this exceeded my expectations. For the style this is tasty. Or maybe "tasty" is the better word but in any case I drank it all.

Poured into a .5 liter mug.

The beer is a clear light golden color. A white fluffy head sits on top but dissipates soon, leaving lingering bubbles. Minimal lacing is present. The beer smells slightly sweet with corn husk and faint grains. A slightly metallic are is present. The beer tastes more metallic than the aroma. Very sweet with corn adjunct notes. The mouthfeel is light bodied and is very drinkable.

Overall, for as cheap as this beer is, it's pretty good compared to any other adjunct lager. It's a bit metallic but sweet and light, easy to drink on a hot day.

Not too bad looking. Light yellow and not so typically fizzy for an adjunct lager. Head was decent and lace wasn't bad at all.

Smell is typically grainy, some corn, a bit of light malt, a little bit sweet.

Taste is plenty OK for the style. Sweet corn and grains with a touch of grassy hops and some light malts.

Light and easy to drink, not that carbonated for the style.

Overall it's quite average but would certainly do when you're fishin' and someone else is buying the beer.

Picked up at a company function.

A: Straw colored with great clarity and mild carbonation from tiny bubbles. Big foamy white head stuck around longer than I thought it would. Left no lace.

S: Promising. A nice aroma of pepper is accompanied by a bit of raw grain.

T: The aroma doesn't translate to the taste. Pretty standard macro fare, but better to me than the BMC mainstays. Mild Malts hit first with flavors of dry barley, wheat and rice, but not necessarily in that order. Bitterness provides balance, but no discernible flavor other than a little metal. Finishes extremely clean.

M: Light body is fizzy, but not overly so.

D: A good yard work and family barbecue beer. In the bargain beer department, this slots in alongside PBR for me. Since a 12-pack of Hamm's goes for less than PBR, this is my new go-to cheap beer.

Light, clear ginger ale color with white cap and lacing.

Aroma of clean grain and slightly floral hops.

Taste is very clean, this is a well made beer, managing to be flavorful without the heaviness in the middle that some AALs seem to have. Flavor is not really malty nor is it grainy but a blend of the two in a way that neither conflict but sing as a duet. I don't detect much in the way of hops yet there is a bit of floral something in the aftertaste that finishes things nicely.

Medium texture with balancing carbonation.

When it comes to AALs this one is firing on all cylinders.

(poured into a red wine glass, after letting can sit out for 7-8 minutes... this is the first time I can remember ever seeing this in any stores on the east coast - the guy behind the counter said it's 'new', they just got it in)

L: sunny yellow liquid with a tinge of cheap gold... poured firm to create head, and it does hold for a few seconds longer than I'd expect

S: a German yeast?!? - smells a tad like a helles... sweet grain, wet stone, dried grass and flowers... overall, pleasant for its kind - peculiarly reminiscent of a German pils... sub-medium overall potency

T: colder, it tastes like any other AAL... noticeably dry in the finish, but with a tiny residual sweetness, penny-like metallic hint in the aftertaste... mildly grassy, (uric) acid notes in aftertaste as well... the malt flavor has a slight husk-y edge... mild bitterness on tongue tip, lingers mid-palate

F: smooth, somewhat flat across the palate... almost medium-bodied, hardly watery... vaguely doughy residual feel... not extremely refreshing

O: land of sky blue waters, huh?... this is one of the better ones when poured into a glass; slightly more meat on its bones than the lot, and I'm digging the German notes in its taste - a few steps toward a helles?... I could drink a bunch of these

Pours clear crisp yellow. No head.

Smell is grain, corn, sweet malts and slight skunk.

Taste is sweet with notes of grains, corn, and malts coming through. Its rather bland, but not bad.

Feel is crisp, light, and drinkable. Medium carbonation gives it some pop.

Overall a perfectly fine AAL. Drank nicely with the BBQ we had for dinner.

12 oz can obtained from a local grocery (HyVee) and consumed a couple days later. Pours a one-finger white fiszzy settling head over a crystal clear very light straw colored liquid. Smells mild hop and 2-row barley sweet. Tastes watery. Malt sweet is very gentle. Hop presence is there, but it's amazingly low. As it warms I get some saaz and maybe hallertauer. Watery mouthfeel and sharp carbonation that's actually part of the taste profile (because there's not much here to taste).

a re-review.
i felt the need to re-review this beer because it's now $10 a 30 pack locally...making it almost the cheapest macro selection around. i usually chose high life, but oddly i've been swilling this stuff lately.

hamm's pours out clear and quite light golden, with a minimal head that dies quickly. practically no lace. the aroma is grainy and grassy; not obnoxiously of cheap adjuncts, but more pleasant. the taste follows suit, the grain/grass combination really asserts itself and the hopping really can be noted. while the maltiness is noticeably thin and watery, it still tastes fairly refreshing. i would rate it slightly higher in drinkability, just becasue it doesn't taste bad. those macro drinkers who like the neutral flavors of anheuser-busch will be offended by the character of this beer. but i'm not. while drinking this beer, i think about growing up in the land of sky blue waters, and how our minnesota forefathers appreciated this beer while engaging in their favorite leisurely pastimes.

a side note...my favourite beer glass, which i sample most of my beers in, is a classic hamm's pint schooner. oh, the nostalgia....

Beer pours a light yellow from the can with a light head a good carbonation. Smell is that of grain and a hint of corn. Taste is clean and crisp. Finish is pretty smooth with some carbonation. This is a good drinkable macro style beer. At least my money goes to non BMC owned or controlled brewery. This is another beer from the past I used to enjoy.

From the land of sky blue waters....

This is a recent addition to the lineup here in my area. I have heard of this beer but never had a chance to try it.

While certainly not groundbreaking, this is a very solid everyday quaff. Chicken wings and potato chips, spicy jalapeno with nachos, large Italian sausage pizzas covered with cheese.... these are the things made for this beer. And there ain't nothing wrong with that. I picked up a case for round 15 bucks. I can see myself drinking this one around the pool this summer.

Had it straight from the can because that is how it is meant to be served (let's be real). Smell is a faint diacetyl butteryness with a bit of corn sweetness. No hops to speak of and the taste is mainly sweet corn. A slight bitter finish. Mouthfeel is thin and over carbonated. Drinkability is pretty high on this one.

Overall if I have zero options this is a passable cheap option.
